Recap: Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger, Episode 48 – Farewell, Dear People

Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger Episode 48 Recap

Feeling like their lives were insignificant dots in the vast universe, people looked up to the sky to seek meaning for their existence.

Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger Episode 48 Recap

The Ohgers are at CaucasusKabuto where Yanma explains his plan to defeat Dagded. They will use their royal symbol proof powers to bring about King-Ohger’s Final Form. Gira will use his Shugod whispering to control them, Yanma will take care of the mecha’s electrical system, Kaguragi’s fire will provide fuel, Rita’s ice will take care of cooling and Hymeno’s life-harvesting will be in their weapons.

The core of the mecha would have been Jeramie’s immortality. But since he had given that up to defeat Gurodi, they must now find a replacement. Gira wonders if Reiniol Husty has the answers to their dilemma. But while it will take some time, Yanma is confident he can whip something up.

Just then, Dagded pops in. And having listened to their entire conversation, says maybe he should start the final clean up right now.

The Ohgers quickly henshin, but are no match for Dagded. Especially since it was he who created their powers in the first place. He says he is excited to enjoy this clean up since the Ohgers have made it quite fun for him. And he hopes they can continue to make it fun until they die.

The Ohgers are forced to dehenshin and Dagded begins wreaking havoc across the entire world.

Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger Episode 48 Recap

Rita asks Yanma if he can complete the Final Form within 24 hours. Yanma says only if they had a couple thousand miracles. Rita declares they must execute Zero immediately. The other kings agree and they notify their retainers to initiate Evacuation Plan Zero.

The peoples panic as mass evacuations begin across the kingdoms.

Racules protects Kogane and Boone from a Kaijim and tosses them the coordinates to the new evacuation site which is different from the last one in the Land of In-Between. Racules asks them to believe in the kings.

Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger Episode 48 Recap

The evacuees are transported to a secluded valley to await further instructions. Sebastian, Shiokara, Morfonia, Kuroda and Gerojim meet up and see each of them has a backpack their kings had asked them to keep safe and closed until the evacuation was complete.

When Douga arrives with the Shugoddamians, CaucasusKabuto touches down in the valley. Racules asks everyone to quickly board the castle and assures them that anyone who has yet to evacuate will be able to board the other Shugods that are on standby.

The retainers feel something is off, but Racules urges everyone to follow the evacuation orders.

Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger Episode 48 Recap

Douga decides to open the backpack and the others follow suit. Racules unsuccessfully tries to stop them. Inside are their respective kings’ proof symbol. Gerojim accidentally shoots Jeramie’s Venomix Shooter and a hologram message from the Ohgers begins to play.

The Ohgers greet the people of Chikyuu, saying by the time they see this message, they should be safely aboard the castle and flying through space. That is because the Ohgers would like the Chikyuuians to find refuge on a new planet. Evacuation Plan Zero is an emergency last resort that has been activated because they were not able to properly prepare for a final battle with Dagded.

The Ohgers hope the peoples will be able to find the missing royal proof symbol they need, no matter how long it takes. The Ohgers apologize for deceiving them, but they would like to prioritize everyone’s safety and survival.

Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger Episode 48 Recap

The first people who arrived on Chikyuu had come with the hope of a safe haven where they could start their lives anew. Stories would be handed down to keep that history alive. And that is what the Ohgers hope will happen once again. They must leave and live. And the Ohgers will stay behind to fight and ensure that everyone else will have the chance to fight and win one day.

Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger Episode 48 Recap

After the message, Racules again orders everyone to board the evacuation castle. But no one budges. The retainers are upset at and blame Racules for not stopping the Ohgers from running toward their deaths.

But Racules screams that he does not want any of this either. He points out that the Ohgers even being able to go toe-to-toe with Dagded is an unprecedented feat already. It will be a long time before anyone will be born to match the Ohgers’ power and strength.

The Ohsama Sentai are miracles, which is why they chose to ensure the people’s survival instead of their own.

The retainers agree that is true and they themselves would never be able to come close to defeating Dagded. Not only that, they will likely repeat this entire cycle of fighting and death for many more millennia. But they refuse to allow that.

Racules agrees with their decision to defy the Ohgers’ will. They decide to march back toward the burning rubble. But Shugoddamian Goroge yells that before they do that, the retainers should hand over the proof symbols.

Turns out, this is a fake Goroge and he is actually Kamejim.

Dagded gloats that the clean up is over and asks if Gira wants more. Gira replies that he will make sure to hear Dagded scream.

Episode Thoughts

Omg! When the episode started, I was like “WTF is this? Did I start watching the wrong thing? Is this one of the King-Ohger movies or something?” lolol

But no, it was simply just a cinematic way to start off these final three episodes of the season. It was definitely a stylistic choice to start the episode in that way. And it worked so well. I started imagining an entire season looking like those first few minutes. How amazing would that be!

The rest of the episode (save for the typical awkwardly shoehorned “humor”) followed suit in dramatic fashion. Maybe even overdramatic. But in a great way! It very much suits the events of the episode and the coming finale.

I think with the way they’ve developed Dagded as this sort of invincible god, it is to be expected that this will be a bloody and difficult battle. And I very much liked the way the episode went about depicting that.

Not so much focusing on the Ohgers getting their asses handed to them by Dagded, who is obviously even holding back as he fights them. But instead focusing on the peoples. Of course we knew the Ohgers would be willing to sacrifice themselves to save their peoples. The whole season was about what the kings were willing to do, even if it were against their fellow kings and neighboring kingdoms, to benefit and bring safety and prosperity for their own peoples.

The peoples, especially Racules and the retainers, fleshing out their kings’ motivations and sacrifices was much more effective and impactful than just showing an action, explosion-filled extravaganza all episode. Though there was certainly some nice action throughout.

Though it’s funny and annoying how they keep blaming Racules, I really loved seeing him essentially take the lead. And again, proving his critics wrong. I think the show has established the people of Chikyuu are quite judgmental. Just look how they treated the liberated Bugnarak! But Racules being the voice of reason and the emerging leader of the resistance is a perfect capping of his story arc this season. Even if I still wish they did more with him this last year.

I will assume the missing core symbol power will come from the people of Chikyuu coming together to lend their support through hopes and dreams, Power Rangers Mystic Force style hehe. And perhaps, like Jeramie narrated at the beginning, the collective meaning of life for the Chikyuuians can equal his immortal powers.

Maybe even stronger than immortal powers! The show has certainly touched upon the idea of living life to the fullest. Especially in the last few episodes.

But just visually speaking, I really love the literal darker tone of this episode. Toei obviously saved their money during the season and blew their entire budget on these last three episodes lol. But it definitely pays off when we get an episode as visually stunning and impactful like this one.

Bonus points for actually good story to go along with it. And this episode definitely set-up the great potential for the climactic finale.
