Recap: Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger, Episode 34 – Shugo Mask Strikes Back

The Ohgers are excited to be arriving back home on their Chikyuu. But they are met by Dagded’s swarm of Shubugs. Rita takes control of the spaceship, saying they have no choice but to just charge through the swarm and back to the castle’s foundation in Shugoddam. Yanma and Gira grab a lever to help safely slip the castle into position.

Rita wants to go home, but Gira says they should let the ShuGods rest from their trip and the attack.

The kings decide to go outside, expecting a grand welcome by the people. Instead, the people throw rocks at them saying they are no longer the kings. Hymeno is shocked to see the Shugoddamians wearing Ishabana’s crown jewels.

Just then, Dagded comes floating down and the peoples welcome him as king. They say the Ohgers have been gone for six months without any word. Yanma explains to the others that because of the theory of relativity, their few days of travel could be six months for everyone here on Chikyuu. The Ohgers have no idea what the hell he’s talking about.

Anyway, Dagded taunts the Ohgers saying that he learned humans only need a little prodding to awaken their bloodlust. He doesn’t even need to stoke a race war. So Dagded reminds the people that the Ohgers abandoned them and challenges them to a King Hunt. Anyone who catches one will become a royal and live with the new king of Shugoddam and get anything they want.

When the people charge at them, Kaguragi carries Yanma away while Gira whisks Hymeno away, leaving Rita and Jeramie.

Hymeno wants to take back her kingdom’s treasures. Gira says the people are just being controlled, but Hymeno says nope. This is really human nature. They like the life of luxury and Dagded fueled their greed and self-indulgence.

Gira remembers Dagded mentioning a new king of Shugoddam. He thinks they need to look into that.

Kaguragi and Yanma overhear a Shugoddamian annoyed that people are treating the kings this way and mentions Suzume might be able to help. Kaguragi grabs the man and demands to know where his sister is. The man says she must have returned to the castle now that it’s back.

The Ohgers reunite and henshin when KinBaejim appears also wanting to join in the King Hunt. Yanma lets Gira use a new sword he made using Kyoryuger power. Gira is able to knock KinBaejim into space, but is forced to dehenshin because of the great power.

Kogane calls Gira and the other Ohgers over to the orphanage where she and Boone explain that Shugo Kamen, the current king of Shugoddam, has given everyone free things. And that a great peace had overcome the land.

Gira says it’s alright then if everything is peaceful. But Kogane says it’s horrible since people think Dagded is awesome and the Ohgers are the reason for all the bad things that’s happened in the past.

Gira says as long as they are happy. But Kogane says this isn’t happiness and tells Gira to get his shit together. He must reclaim his throne.

An embiggened KinBaejim comes flying back. Kuwagon is still in need of repairs. But Gabutyra appears, having stowed away on the ship, and offers to join the Ohgers in place of Kuwagon for now.

Gira has Gabutyra combine with the ShuGods to form King Kyoryuzin. After some dancing, they battle KinBaejim and finish him off with a King Vamola Mucho finisher.

The Ohgers head to the castle where they find Suzume on the throne using Douga as a footrest. She orders Douga to tell the Ohgers who the real king is. He says Suzume and Shogo Kamen were able to guide the people in their kingless time, ushering in a time of prosperity and peace. Suzume says the other kingdoms were very generous in sharing their abundance. But the Ohgers know Suzume and Shogo Kamen probably stole from them.

Anyway, Suzume refuses to explain further to mere commoners. Gira orders Suzume to get off the chair. She calls on King Shugo Kamen to help her.

The masked king comes down the stairs and asks what they think of this thriving country. Gira says he does not like it at all if it was built off the sacrifice of other countries.

The masked king says he will do anything to unite the universe alongside King Dagded. Gira calls him Dagded’s dog.

But the masked king says all of Chikyuu is already his. The four Jesters have each taken control of the other kingdoms with Shugo Kamen ruling Shugoddam.

Shugo Kamen removes his mask to reveal…

He is Racules. And he’s ready to write a new history with his conquest of this world.

Episode Thoughts

Nooo! I can’t believe I was *thisclose* to avoid being spoiled about Racules’ return!

It would’ve been a wonderful, impactful moment at the end if I had not been spoiled to it just minutes before I started watching the episode. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, welcome back King Husty! I expect an episode showing how he survived “hell” and made his way back to the throne. Perhaps an episode revealing what happened on Chikyuu the past six months.

I think the show employing the ol’ Theory of Relativity is fun and a perfect way to fuel some new drama. Honestly, probably the best thing to come out of the little side trip to Kyoryugertopia lol

It makes perfect sense that the peoples of Chikyuu (or specifically, the fickle people of Shugoddam) would turn on their absent kings. I would even love to have seen the corresponding time to their Kyoryugertopia trip to be longer than six months.

Really turn Chikyuu upside down and make the Ohgers have to really work to get things back to normal. Or perhaps nudging them into a new, better direction for their kingdoms. Have the Ohgers struggle and rise and the resulting triumph will be even sweeter.

But even with six months, I’d like the show to spend some time in showing what happened and then slow. It. down! When it comes to the Ohgers getting things in order. I assume that’s what will happen as it seems like they’ll devote an episode each for the coup d’etats they’re apparently going to stage. Lol

I’d like to see that. It’s a good way to introduce the idea of resistance and rising up against oppressive rulers. Though, with the way the Ohgers sometimes act, it’s a wonder we haven’t had uprisings in the Five Kingdoms of Chikyuu before lolol

Now that Racules is back, I am looking forward to learning more about the Husty Bros as well. Crazy to think that there’s only about 16 episodes left of the season already. But that doesn’t mean I want things to speed up though! lol

Anyway, this was a great episode. And a nice set-up for this next stretch of episodes. Hope they give us time to absorb and savor the surely exciting moments to come.
