Recap: Voltes V: Legacy, Episode 68 – Ambush

Oslak is about to have his way with a mind controlled-Zandra. But Zardoz barges in and shoots at him, having heard about the magic ring.
Zardoz looks forward to how Oslak will use the magic ring on other people, but he warns him not to use it to rape Zandra in the future. After Oslak leaves, Zardoz scolds Zandra for falling so easily to the magic mind control ring.
Over at EDF, Captain Ignacio asks General Commander Robinson about the Marites that he’s resigning. Robinson says he has assessed himself and decided it’s time to pass on the baton to someone better suited for the job.
Commander General Robinson breaks the news to Dr. Hook who says the United Nations are not going to like an abrupt change in leadership during an extinction-level event like this interplanetary war. Dr. Hook asks if he’s sick, but General Commander Robinson does not answer.
Jamie comes in and Dr. Hook allows them to talk. Jamie notices her father has lost weight and asks if he’s sick. He says he is so okay that they can spar right now. So they do. The other Voltesers applaud for them in the training room as the father and daughter go at it.

Later, Commander General Robinson speaks with Ambassador Rodgers to tell him about his illness. The ambassador asks if he’s gotten a second opinion, but Robinson says he just wants to spend his remaining time with his daughter.
Back home, Papa Robinson and Jamie enjoy looking at old photos. He reminds her to be careful out there and she says she always is, especially as she’s living her dream now.
Papa Robinson gets emotional telling Jamie how proud he is of her. He closes out their crying session by saying he knows about Mark and Steve falling for her and tells her she cannot date, nor get married. Especially at this point. Now that he has resigned from EDF, he hopes to spend more time with her.

She says he should stop talking like he’s going to die soon. They hug.
After Jamie leaves, Robinson gets a pain in his abdomen and pops a pill. He quickly calls someone.
Next day, Jamie is walking along the beach and picks up Oslak’s magic ring. She puts it on and is under his control. Oslak orders her to return to CBF and destroy the mechanisms controlling Voltes V’s Laser Sword.

Meanwhile, Dr. Hook tells General Commander Robinson that he’s heard about his illness. While talking about Robinson’s future plans, Jamie finds that Voltes V has too many people hovering around it. When she spots her father, Oslak orders her to take him hostage and kill him.
Episode Thoughts
Okay, so this long episode is focused on Papa Robinson’s death. That’s fine. I’m getting a lot better at forgiving the show’s pacing when looking at each daily teleserye episode as one segment of a longer episode lolol. Then the editing decisions and pacing decisions make much more sense. Lol
So with that, it will be a nice story to have Jamie eventually kill her father lol. Or really, Commander General Robinson probably sacrifices himself for her. It’s a good thing to motivate the Voltes team even more to defeat the Boazanians. I assume the last straw for them will be Zardoz murdering Alpha. Then you’re going to see Mark go craaazy on their asses lol And rightfully so of course!
Definitely ewe to Oslak wanting to rape Zandra. WTF! Start an episode off with it too. Okay…
Also Zardoz’s reaction to it and also recently is kinda off. It’s far from the early days where you weren’t sure if he might turn at any moment. Where he still had some of Hrothgar and Rozalia left in him. But not anymore. It’s not like it was a gradual degrading of his “humanity.” It’s just become more pronounced lately.
Anyway, an okay episode setting up the big “tragedy” that will happen tomorrow. And it WILL happen tomorrow because GMA is blasting it all over their social media promoting it lol
Oh, and the episode title? There was not a single ambush in this episode lol

But they usually post it as late as possible in order to drive more people to watch live and juice the ratings so they can post more ratings art cards on social media. =)
I’ve seen people talk about how people worldwide should subscribe to GMA Pinoy TV in order to watch the series. I’d recommend that if you are interested in watching lots of Filipino programming. But if you only want to watch Voltes V: Legacy, I don’t think it’d be a good investment. Especially since you can’t watch the series on demand anyway. GMA Pinoy TV is a linear, premium TV channel on most cable and satellite systems.
