Recap: Voltes V: Legacy, Episode 89 – Never Surrender

The Armstrongs are already celebrating Zambojil’s defeat. But Zardoz wakes up in a cockpit and after he confirms his identity, the huge statue of Dios ng Digmaan turns itself into a Beastfighter-sort of thing. Papa Ned orders the Voltesers to hop into Voltes V.
Zardoz uses many failures and embarrassments to fuel his rage. The Voltesers whip out the Laser Sword and the battle begins. They are shocked that Zardoz no Digmaan is quite strong.
Meanwhile, Zambojil is perfectly fine inside the castle as he rampages and kills anyone he encounters. Papa Ned runs in, confronts him and they also battle.
Zardoz no Digmaan whips out two huge laser blasters and shoots straight at Voltes V, throwing them back and making them let go of the Laser Sword. When Zardoz no Digmaan goes for another attack, they try to shield themselves using nearby rubble. But Voltes V’s arm gets shot off and they momentarily lose contact with Mark.

Zardoz suddenly gets a major headache. This gives the Voltesers an opportunity to finish him off at the exact same time as Papa Ned kills Zambojil. With Voltes V severely damaged, the Voltesers abandon ship and hop out.
Papa Hrothgar remembers his mother as he believes he has finally killed Zambojil. But after Papa Ned leaves, Zambojil wakes up with a gasp.
Episode Thoughts
Why at the end of the episode they introduce a preview of the final episode, but then show the outtakes instead? Strange. Unless the final episode will be all BTS stuff. Lol
Anyway, this was a good episode. Not perfect of course, but at least a worthy penultimate episode. It would’ve been nice if the episodes leading up to it were better. But that’s okay. Can’t do anything about it now lol
The night version of the Voltes gattai was nice. And the battle was good, though it would’ve nice to have it go on longer too since it’s the decisive, climactic battle.
Zambojil waking up or whatever that was didn’t work as much as a cliffhanger with Zardoz would’ve. Since Zardoz is our series-long main villain and there’s much more emotional depth there. So that confrontation is much more important than Papa Hrothgar and Ned. Just finish that in this episode and have this final episode focus on Zardoz Armstrong instead.
Oh well. One final episode left! Woohoo.

I’ve seen people talk about how people worldwide should subscribe to GMA Pinoy TV in order to watch the series. I’d recommend that if you are interested in watching lots of Filipino programming. But if you only want to watch Voltes V: Legacy, I don’t think it’d be a good investment. Especially since you can’t watch the series on demand anyway. GMA Pinoy TV is a linear, premium TV channel on most cable and satellite systems.
