Recap: Voltes V: Legacy, Episode 90 – One Epic Finale
Steve and Zardoz meet in the fiery rubble to finally end it all, but for some reason, the show instead chooses to cut to Big Bert and Judyalah sharing a romantic reunion first.
Steve and his Kuya Zardoz finally face off and are evenly matched at first. They gain an audience and Papa Ned is shocked to see Zardoz whip out the dagger he knows is Rosalia’s.
Papa Ned demands to know how Zardoz is in possession of it and he of course says it belonged to his Mama Rosalia. Papa HrothNed realizes what’s going on and he begs them to stop because they are magkapatid.
Zardoz cannot believe it and refuses it to believe it. But when Papa HrothNed can describe the dagger, Zardoz finally accepts it. Steve tries to comfort Zardoz. But Zambojil pops up alive with a maniacal laugh and a bomb.
Zardoz is upset that Zambojil used him and pit him against his own flesh and blood. Zambojil says Zardoz made that decision himself. Zardoz throws the dagger and it lodges right into Zambojil’s heart.
Zambojil keels over and drops the bomb, but Octo-1 blows it up and shields everyone from the explosion. Everyone is safe, except for Zardoz who has a huge slab of rubble on top of him. He asks for their forgiveness before he takes his last breath after being crushed to death. Papa HrothNed is sad he wasn’t even able to spend time with him.
Later, HrothNed takes his rightful place on the throne. Unfortunately, he has to stay here on Boazan to help rebuild the planet and its peace. The Armstrong Bros wish they could be together, but it’s okay since they have warp speed now and can visit anytime.
The Voltesers and CBF return to Earth.
Mark tells Steve he is going home and asks for a favor. That is to take care of Jamie and make her happy in a way he was not able to. Steve says that’s impossible because of the bro code. But Mark tells him to drop the “[g]entleman’s agreement crap” and just wishes he and Jamie be happy.
Mark rides off into the sunset while Steve and Jamie later admit their love for each other and everyone lived happily ever after.
It’s finally over! Woohoo!
So, I was definitely underwhelmed by the Armstrong Bro reveal. It really should’ve been much bigger and more impactful. And definitely should not be interrupted by irrelevant things. (Hello JuBert!)
Especially with the tragic ending for Zardoz, there should have been at least much more dialogue between the Armstrong Bros and Papa. And then Zambojil just popping up as a plot device. The whole thing felt rushed and tacked on rather than be the ultimate climax of the series.
This NINETY episode series!
I’ll have a bit fuller Hindsight Review tomorrow. But let’s just stick to this episode. It really didn’t even feel too much like a climax. It really felt like just another Beastfighter of the Week. And I think that’s more to do with the teleserye format breaking up the action in awkward places.
Again, nothing that can be done about that. But it just speaks to the writing being much better and more creative to adapt to the daily format.
Anyway, ending on Steve and Jamie and Mark couldn’t be any more perfect for the show. A perfect reminder of probably one of the storylines that really held the show back from soaring heights. Steve believes in Bro Code? Shut up! You do not! Ugh. PK douchebag all the way to the end. I guess that’s great though. Consistent character! Wow! lol
Voltes V: Legacy Episode 90 is supposed to be available on GMA Network’s official YouTube channel:
Only for Filipino audiences of course.
Maybe they’ll release long version episodes onto Viu or something lol
I’ve seen people talk about how people worldwide should subscribe to GMA Pinoy TV in order to watch the series. I’d recommend that if you are interested in watching lots of Filipino programming. But if you only want to watch Voltes V: Legacy, I don’t think it’d be a good investment. Especially since you can’t watch the series on demand anyway. GMA Pinoy TV is a linear, premium TV channel on most cable and satellite systems.
