Recap: Voltes V: Legacy, Episode 88 – Tagapagligtas
While Zardoz mourns Zandra, the human forces declare the Boazanian peoples have officially been liberated. Dr. Hook and a soldier stumble upon Zandra’s dead body and Dr. Hook says it doesn’t matter who she is. What matters is that all the death and destruction finally comes to an end.
Dr. Hook and Hrothgar celebrate the success of their mission. Papa Ned is finally able to reunite with his children with tight hugs. He is very proud of them. They all agree this is all thanks to Papa Ned’s creations like Voltes V.
Zardoz walks through the rubble of the now-empty castle, damning Zambojil as a worthless coward. He regrets ever looking up to him like a father and never thought he would end up killing the woman he loves.
He reaches the temple of Boazan’s God of War and decides to jump in the blue fire. According to legend, sacrificing his life will bring about the emergence of the Tagapagtanggol ng Boazan. Zardoz believes this is what will finally defeat Voltes V.
Only three episodes left and we get an episode that is 75% clips! It really takes you away from what’s supposed to be all climactic moments.
The Armstrong Family reunion felt like any other episode rather than a huge emotional moment. Especially when the Battle of Boazan took just a few minutes. Like, seriously, where are the big battles? Where is the CGI extravaganza?! If there ever was a time during the series to have an all-out CGI and visual effects feast, it would be in this final week. Not for some random Beastfighter battle in the 30s and 40s.
And those slow moments of the episode took away from Zardoz’s story which was much more interesting. The focus really should’ve been on Zardoz’s emotional spiral. Losing Zandra and then realizing he’s been made a fool since he was a child by Zambojil. All leading to his jumping into the fire. That should’ve taken the spotlight. Perhaps even save the Armstrong reunion for tomorrow where they reunite and everyone’s celebrating. But then here comes godZardoz for the final stand. I think that might work better, but we’ll see how they go tomorrow.
Voltes V: Legacy Episode 88 is supposed to be available on GMA Network’s official YouTube channel:
Only for Filipino audiences of course. And that’ll be tomorrow during the airing of the next episode to trick people into thinking it’s the current one lol
I’ve seen people talk about how people worldwide should subscribe to GMA Pinoy TV in order to watch the series. I’d recommend that if you are interested in watching lots of Filipino programming. But if you only want to watch Voltes V: Legacy, I don’t think it’d be a good investment. Especially since you can’t watch the series on demand anyway. GMA Pinoy TV is a linear, premium TV channel on most cable and satellite systems.
