Recap: Voltes V: Legacy, Episode 38 – “This might be our last fight.”

The Voltes team acts quite overconfident about the Beastfighter, Big Bert even laughing at it. But they get more than they bargained for. Just as they are about to Volt In, Namazuka sends an anti-electromagnetic wave at them, stopping them from engaging the Volt In sequence. Zardoz and Co. laugh at the Voltes V theme song cutting in and out as the Voltes team struggles. They think they’ve finally won against Voltes V.

Steve says they should try again, but the same thing happens. Namazuka’s magnetic wave prevents them from combining.

Zardoz orders Zuhl to finally wasak Voltes V.

Dr. Smith orders them to return to camp as they cannot do anything without being able to Volt In. However, Steve refuses and says more people will die if they do. He “has a duty to perform” and says the others can leave if they want. Big Bert, Little Jon and Jamie say they will never leave Steve. Mark rolls his eyes.

General Commander Robinson holograms in and Dr. Smith asks him to address the world to band together to fight the threat.

The Volt Machines freefall onto Falcon Island. Dr. Smith orders his peoples to activate the autopilot protocol to get the team safely back to camp.

Zardoz wants Zuhl to send Namazuka after them, but Zuhl says it has to return to their own base for it to recharge its power.

The Voltes team is sent to the medical bay where they are found to have been just shook up by the waves. Dr. Smith says to ensure they stay there even if it means they get strapped down.

Dr. Smith orders the immediate repair of the Volt Machines. He also orders the shield raised as the Beastfighter is detected to be approaching. Namazuka grows legs as it returns to the island. CBF’s missile defense is wiped out almost immediately.

The Voltes team begin to wake up. But Dr. Alvarez says they are not allowed to leave as they must rest and recover first. The Voltes team stubbornly forces themselves out of bed. So Dr. Alvarez dispenses sedatives to everyone except Little Jon and then has them strapped in. The sedatives wear off almost immediately after the straps are secured. The Voltes team say they cannot just lay here and insist that they would rather die out in the field. Dr. Alvarez says she is also doing her duty and that is to allow them to recover per Dr. Smith’s orders.

With CBF’s defenses at a critical level, Dr. Smith speaks to the entire camp, saying this could be their last stand. So they must give it everything they have left. He rallies his troops and they get to their stations.

Zandra and Draco want to toast to their win, but Zardoz says it’s not time to celebrate yet. Zardoz orders Zuhl to continuing targeting the camp and ensure its destruction. Then they will be able to easily conquer Earth.

Episode Thoughts

I feel like the show leaps into different events without proper build up. Already their last stand? It feels like they really just merely adapted the anime episodes, but then didn’t flesh them out. And instead just filled in the holes between anime episodes with unrelated things.

I dunno. It just feels too abrupt and not enough building of tension. You want the build up so these moments feel even more exciting.

Anyway, lol at the theme song cutting in and out during the scene. That was a nice touch and helps keep things light, while still maintaining the action.

I don’t know how to feel about the Voltes team’s stubbornness. Of course they want to be heroic and all that. But they’re no good anyway if they’re incapable of really fighting against the enemy at this point.

It’s funny to see Zardoz and Co. holding back instead of just going full force. It’s the typical toku device of where the enemy can absolutely finish off the heroes now. But of course that’s not going to happen, so we have to have them hold back until the heroes can regroup and find what they need to finish the enemy off.

Anyway, a solid episode.

Voltes V: Legacy Episode 38 is available on GMA Network’s official YouTube channel:

As of June 29, 2023 12:30pm Philippine Time, this video is available UNRESTRICTED WORLDWIDE! Wow! lol

I’ve seen people talk about how people worldwide should subscribe to GMA Pinoy TV in order to watch the series. I’d recommend that if you are interested in watching lots of Filipino programming. But if you only want to watch Voltes V: Legacy, I don’t think it’d be a good investment. Especially since you can’t watch the series on demand anyway. GMA Pinoy TV is a linear, premium TV channel on most cable and satellite systems.
