Recap: Voltes V: Legacy, Episode 23 – Butterfly Return Technique
The generals are sure the Erthuians have as good as lost. But Zardoz tells them to shut up because he isn’t impressed by Gardo yet. He orders Gardo to prove he is different from the other Beastfighters so far.
Gardo strolls over to CBF and begins to hit at the shield. Zardoz notices that there are only three Voltes members and orders Gardo to target them first. Gardo shoots at them and Mark gets hit.
Meanwhile, Steve wakes up and wants to hurry with more training. Steve suggests Big Bert shoot him so he can try to catch it, thinking it might help with learning the technique. Big Bert hesitates to do so, but Steve orders him as the commanding officer.
Big Bert shoots Steve and he catches the bullet with two rocks. They try again with a sword and Steve sees a golden butterfly, using that visual to catch the sword before it slices him in half.
Back at CBF, Mark is able to quickly regain control of his machine and they refocus their efforts on stopping Gardo from breaking through the shield. They continue shooting at the Beastfighter while also maneuvering away from its laser eyes.
Steve and Big Bert finally arrive and the team can now Volt In once again. They use Chain Knuckles at Gardo, but he just smashes it to pieces. Their only hope is the Butterfly Return Technique.
Gardo leaps up into the sky with his sword. Steve prepares himself to execute the move and he is able to do it. Voltes V catches Gardo’s sword and Steve tosses it to the side. Now Steve summons the Laser Sword.
As the Laser Sword charges up, Gardo leaps for his own sword. The two clash swords and Zuhl declares Gardo the winner.
But Voltes V slices Gardo in half, causing its explosion and destruction.
The Boazanians are speechless. The generals try to sneak away, but Zardoz yells at them to stop. He scolds them as being completely, utterly useless. Zardoz orders his soldiers to throw Draco in jail. Draco maintains that he is still a general and fights back against the soldiers. But Zardoz shoots him with his laser finger, subduing him and allowing the soldiers to drag him to jail.
Later, Zardoz speaks with Zandra, wondering how he can face Uncle Zambojil. Zandra suggests their next hope is Zardoz’s spy.
Back at CBF, Dr. Smith and Commander Robinson discuss how easy it was for the Boazanians to attack this time. Commander Robinson thinks the Boazanians already have a base on Earth.
Elsewhere, Eva is sneaking around suspiciously. She thinks back to when she stole Jamie’s watch from her locker in order to make a copy and use it unlock a door.
Episode Thoughts
Well, let’s ignore that last scene. Because we all know it has nothing to do with Zardoz’s spy and everything to do with more petty love triangle nonsense lol
Let’s focus more on all the excellent action this episode. Definitely great work all around. From the CGI to the actor’s performances, everything (except for the last scene) played out very well this episode.
They did a good job in building the tension so the climactic sword clash was exciting and satisfying. The humor mixed in from the bumbling idiots in the Skull also helped in that great satisfaction of Gardo’s loss.
And the Voltes team worked well also. No extra nonsense from them. Just all business and good teamwork. We like conflict, but only when it makes sense in context. We don’t want yabang conflict or love conflict while in the middle of big battles, you know? Lol. Let’s just have conflict of approach and strategy and principles!
But anyway, this episode was all about absorbing the excellent action that you don’t ever see on Philippine TV! Too bad Gardo’s defeat means we get back to more soapy storylines for a while. Ugh. lol
Voltes V: Legacy Episode 23 is available on GMA Network’s official YouTube channel:
However, it is restricted to the Philippines only. Hopefully it will be made available worldwide soon!
I’ve seen people talk about how people worldwide should subscribe to GMA Pinoy TV in order to watch the series. I’d recommend that if you are interested in watching lots of Filipino programming. But if you only want to watch Voltes V: Legacy, I don’t think it’d be a good investment. Especially since you can’t watch the series on demand anyway. GMA Pinoy TV is a linear, premium TV channel on most cable and satellite systems.
