Recap: Voltes V: Legacy, Episode 21 – Change of Heart

Voltes V Legacy Episode 21 Recap

Draco introduces the new Beastfighter, Gardo, to Zardoz. Gardo is programmed with the ways of the samurai so it will be able better match up with Voltes V’s laser sword. And the cells infused into Gardo’s mind will power it up even more.

Later, Zardoz speaks with his uncle about the preparations for the next attack. Zambojil can’t believe Zardoz and Friends can’t even conquer a small planet like Earth. If Zardoz can’t get this done soon, Zambojil will remove his prince title and send him back to the slaves.

Zardoz vows he will not lose again.

Voltes V Legacy Episode 21 Recap

Over in the lab, Draco, Zandra and Zuhl argue over who will become Zardoz’s second in command once Gardo defeats Voltes V and they conquer Earth. Zardoz walks in and tells them they have no right to even think of such things when they have proven nothing yet. His generals assure him they will not fail this time.

Over at CBF, Steve finds Dr. Smith teaching Jamie how to do kintsugi and tells them about Mark suddenly being nice to them and apologizing to them. Steve asks Dr. Smith to Marites everything about Mark’s life, but Dr. Smith says Mark will tell them when he’s ready.

Dr. Smith says Mark has a lot of cracks, but nothing or no one is ever broken beyond repair. Just like the bowls he uses in kintsugi.

Voltes V Legacy Episode 21 Recap

That evening on the mainland, Big Bert is with Judy. They’ve just had dinner and are now getting drinks. She tells him how she’s always wanted to see inside the CBF and Bert promises to make that happen for her soon since he’s a big shot on campus. Steve calls Big Bert and scolds him, telling him to hurry back to camp and not waste their mother’s death. Big Bert asks for two more hours.

Next day, Big Bert and Jamie are training together with kendo sticks. Big Bert expresses his frustration with Kuya Steve interrupting his date with Judy. Anyway, Jamie likes the new move Big Bert uses on her: the butterfly return.
He learned the move from monks Mama Armstrong sent him to as a kid to train with.

Jamie asks if he can teach her, but Big Bert says only after she defeats him.

Later, alarms are sounded and CBF is shielded when Gardo makes his way across the island. It has no problem squishing tanks with his feet, throwing missiles at ships and slashing at fighter jets.

The Voltes team hop into their respective Machines and try shooting at Gardo. But again, Gardo has no problem swatting away any attack. They notice how it seems quite human in its movements.

Dr. Smith tells Commander Robinson to trust in the team. The team decides to combine into Voltes V.

Episode Thoughts

An okay episode to start off the week. It’s of course a bit of déjà vu. As will happen with shows featuring a MOTW and stuff like that. The CGI again is wonderful and will always do its part to pick up any slack that might exist elsewhere. It was definitely a welcome sight at the end of the episode.

For the rest of the episode though, it was all just adding little stuff to things we already know. We got to see more with Big Bert and his spy girlfriend. I mean, girlfriend, we don’t know she’s the spy yet lol Steve telling him to get back to camp and not be gallivanting on the mainland was one of Kuya Steve’s better moments! More of that and less of the red flag loverboy.

Which we kind of saw in his scene with Dr. Smith and Jamie. Talagang si Mark pa ang kailangan mag-sorry when Steve and Bert were just as nasty to him without cause from the beginning. Lol Um, okay. Whatever.

I almost feel like the kintsugi idea was wasted on this scene. Should’ve been a nice, profound scene. Instead, it was another opportunity for the Mark-Jamie romantic angle, tbh.

Nothing much from the Skull peeps other than a bit more humor from the bumbling generals. And Zardoz getting scolded again by Uncle Zambojil.

So overall, an okay episode.

Voltes V: Legacy Episode 21 is available on GMA Network’s official YouTube channel:
However, it is restricted to the Philippines only. Hopefully it will be made available worldwide soon!

I’ve seen people talk about how people worldwide should subscribe to GMA Pinoy TV in order to watch the series. I’d recommend that if you are interested in watching lots of Filipino programming. But if you only want to watch Voltes V: Legacy, I don’t think it’d be a good investment. Especially since you can’t watch the series on demand anyway. GMA Pinoy TV is a linear, premium TV channel on most cable and satellite systems.
