Episode Thoughts

What?! A MaGMCM? On a Filipino television series? Why yes! That’s exactly what this final scene was! And I was taken aback by it as much as Zardoz and Co. were shocked by Dokugaga’s defeat.

Definitely the perfect way to end this episode. I really started tearing up there. The best episode of Voltes V: Legacy so far, no question.

Obviously the huge action sequences. Finally the big battle. How amazing was that? Quite thrilling. It was as exciting as any big mecha or robo battle I’ve seen on a regular toku episode lately. Heck, even a bit more visually striking than a Toei toku movie or big-budget Hollywood movies that tend to rely too heavily on cartoony-looking CGI.

What makes Voltes V: Legacy a bit different is how grounded these scenes feel. Even for such a fantastical scenario (I mean, big robos fighting in the middle of a futuristic-looking Philippine city? Lol), there is a feeling of being grounded and realistic. Like, how else to describe it? Something like it is able to immerse you into the moment. In a way that has you hanging on every dodge, and swerve and hit during the battle. You get lost in the around ten minutes-long battle, forgetting that you’re actually watching a TV show.

It’s really a great experience and definitely something different from the usual things you see on Philippine TV.

It was really just so exciting to watch. Can’t even describe the experience in words. Just sit back and absorb the action.

And then they finish the episode off with that emotional moment. Not just the Armstrong and Robinsons sharing a hug, but especially Dr. Smith calling Mark over to tell him he’s proud of him. Really wonderful and definitely tear-inducing for me. The excitement of the action and ending with that sincere moment was the perfect combination.

I’m looking forward to see Mark’s story play out as someone who is definitely not a PK like the rest of his teammates. Lol But this was also a great first step for the others to also begin their character journeys for this series.

Overall, I think it was worth the wait. Yeah, we could’ve picked up the pace a little. But all of that is forgotten now that we have this Episode 12 to applaud and enjoy. Really an incredible achievement for everyone involved.

Voltes V: Legacy Episode 12 is available on GMA Network’s official YouTube channel:
However, it is restricted to the Philippines only. Hopefully it will be made available worldwide soon!

I’ve seen people talk about how people worldwide should subscribe to GMA Pinoy TV in order to watch the series. I’d recommend that if you are interested in watching lots of Filipino programming. But if you only want to watch Voltes V: Legacy, I don’t think it’d be a good investment. Especially since you can’t watch the series on demand anyway. GMA Pinoy TV is a linear, premium TV channel on most cable and satellite systems.
