Recap: Power Rangers Dino Fury, Episode 44 (Season 2, Episode 22) – The Nemesis
Tarrick joins the Rangers back at the base as they watch a simulation of the atomic bomb-like explosion that would result from Void Queen’s cocoon hatching.
Amelia wonders if Void Queen learning the truth will “fix” her like how it fixed Tarrick. He thinks it’s worth a shot. The Rangers and Tarrick hurry over to Buzzblast.
Orria is able to finish off the final Sporix Beasts. Zayto thanks her and urges her and her warriors to evacuate immediately.
The Rangers and Tarrick head inside. Tarrick says Void Queen is completely wrapped in Sporix. So it would be almost impossible to connect minds with her. That’s why they must get her out of there. But it is far too unstable.
Zayto proposes he use Dino Knight armor and teleport the cocoon out to the desert. It is dangerous, but he believes he has to do this as leader of the team.
Tarrick says this is all his fault so he asks for a Morpher so he can morph into Void Knight one last time to do the job himself. The Rangers are in for the biggest battle of their lives, so he must do this. Zayto hands Tarrick the Morpher and he morphs to Void Knight.
Amelia hugs her father and wishes him luck.
Tarrick pushes forward toward the cocoon and they disappear. Suddenly, a loud and violent rumbling rocks the city. The Rangers morph and head outside to the desert.
They find Tarrick on the ground, but he is alright. Unfortunately, the cocoon has hatched and a horrifying giant monster has appeared. It is the manifestation of all the Sporix combined, meaning Void Queen is still inside.
Void Queen appears and cackles that this is the Nemesis Beast. Amelia steps forward and tries to tell her that she is her daughter. Void Queen refuses to believe it. She shoots at Amelia, but Ollie shields her.
Tarrick says they have got to get Void Queen out of the beast. Zayto calls Solon to send all their zords. He thanks Tarrick for all he’s done and tells him to get to safety.
Void Queen calls Tarrick a traitor and shoots at them once again. But the zords arrive and the Rangers combine them into DinoFury Megazord Smash Formation, Ptera Freeze Zord Battle Mode and Mosa Cosmic Megazord.
The Rangers work together to try and find the perfect combination to defeat the Nemesis Beast. Void Queen sends a massive bombardment of explosions and the zords separate and the Rangers ejected.
Zayto decides to whip out the Dino Master Saber. But Amelia reminds Zayto of the Green Moprhin Master’s warning about the ultimate attack. Zayto says he has to stop her even if it kills him.
Zayto insists. But Amelia says she has a new plan. Ollie, Javi, Izzy and Aiyon fly up into the sky and start shooting at the Nemesis Beast’s core where Void Queen is. Void Queen summons Hengemen which the Rangers easily take care of.
The distraction allows for an opening for Amelia to swoop in, but Void Queen shoots at them some more. The others get slammed back onto the ground, forcing them to demorph. But Amelia is able to hang on to the platform of Nemesis Beast’s core.
Amelia again tries to tell Void Queen that her quest for revenge was all a misunderstanding. She is her daughter. Void Queen still does not believe it and shoots Amelia off of the platform, having her fall off.
Just then, Zayto appears along with all the other zords. Zayto activates the Master Saber, bids farewell to his friend and delivers the ultimate attack at Nemesis Beast.
The others scream as a massive explosion reverberates across the desert. They get thrown back as Nemesis Beast collapses.
Aiyon screams for Zayto, but Javi says he’s gone. They try to look for where Amelia landed, but instead out pops Void Queen. She is furious and demands to know who has been spilling her secrets.
Tarrick steps forward and says they are trying to help her, Santaura. Void Queen says that name and Tarrick mean nothing to her. She shoots at them. Tarrick begs her to listen.
Before Void Queen can deliver the deadly final blow, Amelia comes out from behind a rock and grabs onto Void Queen’s hand. That allows Void Queen to see all of Amelia’s memories and finally realize the truth.
Santaura is finally released from Void Queen with the Sporix scattered across the sand. Amelia runs over to her and they share an emotional reunion. Tarrick joins them and the three of them hug for the first time.
Suddenly, the Morphin Masters appear and say that they can now seal all the Sporix away. They declare the Rangers’ mission complete. The Rangers ask them to save Zayto one more time. But they say he will continue to live on in their hearts, memories and the Grid. Everywhere the Grid touches, a piece of Zayto remains.
A pendant of Zayto’s floats up out of the ground and into Aiyon’s hand. The Morphin Masters depart to seal the Sporix for good.
The Rangers head back to the base as Mucus slithers out from under a rock.
Six months later, Pop-pop is overseeing the renovation of Area 62 into a Rafkonian housing community. Mama Santaura is now pregnant with Amelia’s sister and Amelia is able to connect with the baby’s mind to decide what color she wants the bassinet to be.
Elsewhere, Izzy has won a championship and broken the 200m sprint record. Ollie and Amelia hurry to join them for her graduation celebration at Aiyon’s café.
Jane and J-Borg are preparing to open Buzzblast Angel Grove.
Javi gives a busker some coins and the musician is a big fan of his.
Just then, the Rangers get a call from Solon who says something is trying to push through the base’s forcefield. They hurry over and they see a strange white apparition manifesting in front of them.
Actually, it’s a new Ranger. Well, an old new Ranger… Zayto.
The Rangers run over to hug him. He says the Morphin Masters gave him new powers and they did not explain how. But he has a new mission for the team. Lord Zedd has escaped.
Solon cheers them on as the head into the new season.
Episode Thoughts
Okay! This was a great finale. Again, even though clips from this episode were posted all over Twitters as soon as it was released, it was still and fun and exciting watch in full now.
While Dino Fury is far from perfect, if I were to judge solely based on how exciting and satisfying the finale was, I’d say it was a pretty good season. An argument could definitely be made that Dino Fury is the strongest season since RPM. At least for me. I’m sure there are fans out there who think Power Rangers has been horrible since Mighty Morphin. lol
But I really do think the strongest parts of Dino Fury overall have outweighed the many missteps. And those missteps aren’t just Dino Fury specific, but simply carried over from this era of the franchise.
At this point though, this finale and this final arc really are honestly enough to redeem the rest of the season for me. The season (and I am referring to all of Dino Fury when I say “season”) has to be the least offensively annoying one of the Saban Brands Era. That alone is an accomplishment.
But the season was able to craft a season-long story that none of the recent seasons have been able to do. From meeting the team to them setting off for their Netflix-produced adventure, Dino Fury had a mostly consistent narrative. One that was exciting and fun at its best and passably forgettable at its worst.
Dino Fury has arguably the best character development of any of the recent seasons. It has some of the more refreshing stories of any of the recent seasons. And it definitely has the most legitimately exciting and satisfying climax of any of the recent seasons.
When you start feeling emotions from scenes like Amelia begging her mother to open her eyes to the truth or Zayto going on a suicide mission, then you know the show has done its job well enough to warrant those feelings.
Again, far from perfect or even the best of Power Rangers as a franchise. But still exciting, thrilling and a refreshingly enjoyable season that leaves with you a positive feeling unlike any of the recent seasons of the franchise.
While I don’t regret waiting until now to watch the rest of the season, I’m happy to have finally finished it. And actually enjoyed it. The most I’ve enjoyed Power Rangers in a decade. And for that, thank you to everyone involved!
Now, am I excited to watch Cosmic Fury next? Not really. Do I care about what is ahead for the Power Rangers franchise. Nope. But did I enjoy Dino Fury in the end? To my surprise, yes. Yes I did.
