Power Rangers Cosmic Fury Episode 8 Recap

Ollie and Scrozzle are arguing, but Zedd just orders them to work faster. Bajillia arrives and reports that Earth’s anti-Zord force field has fallen and Rangers are being freed and fighting back now. Bajillia is worried as she cannot contact Squillia, but she is more worried about what a PR disaster this is for her company.

Zedd does not care about Earth as it does not matter in his plans. And he doesn’t care about Squillia since he thinks she’s a pest. Scrozzle gave him the perfect plan to use the Master Captivator and the Morphin Master powers to become unstoppable. Bajillia likes that he has a plan so she will go focus on saving her daughter for now.

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury Episode 8 Recap

Over in the resistance hideout, Zayto tries to read Squillia’s memories. But it’s pointless because she never paid attention in her meetings with Zedd.

Meanwhile, Javi and Aiyon come back from liberating Japan while Izzy and Fern have saved New Zealand. Aiyon says they met with Mama Akana who says she has a plan to cure Ollie. As long as they destroy the Tricera statue, it would break his connection to the Grid and would turn him good again. But they don’t know where the statue is.

Just then, they get a message from Billy who says the rest of his team has been freed from Angel Grove prisons and are moving on to Reefside to help there next. He believes Earth can be liberated in a few months.

Aiyon heads to his café to pack up. A little girl comes in with her mom, looking for alien food. Aiyon says he has to close up for now. But he gives the mother a recipe for Flargon cake she can make at home. The little girl, however, stomps outside.

They decided to turn themselves into humans so they can live amongst the people. That’s when they found out circus work is a lot more fun than evil work. So they decided on living a different life just as Zedd began attacking the planet. They were upset Zedd ruined their new lives.

Aiyon brings them to the resistance HQ, much to the others confusion. Aiyon wants them to trust him that they are not evil anymore. After Zayto, Tarrick and Amelia mind read their memories, they become convinced that they’ve turned over a new leaf.

The plan is now to have Mucus and Slyther work as spies. While Slyther can still transform, Mucus cannot get out of her human form and she doesn’t want to separate from him.

The Rangers start to feel sorry for Mucus and Zayto says nobody should feel like they don’t belong in their body. Despite Aiyon and Solon trying to stop him, Zayto uses Morphin Master magic to turn Mucus back into a mushroom. Mucus is very grateful, but Aiyon and Solon know it has once again drained Zayto of magic.

Zayto collapses again and Solon takes him back to base.

Amelia, Izzy and Fern go to take care of the Squidrill, leaving the boys here to ensure Bajillia will not find her daughter.

Bajillia, however, easily finds their hideout. Javi and Aiyon morph and they battle the Zentinels alongside Mucus, Slyther and Tarrick. Bajillia is able to untie her daughter and tells her to finish off her captors. Javi calls the girls and asks them to hurry back. The ladies finish off the Copyguards first.

Squillia spits on Aiyon and Javi’s faces. The ladies arrive just in time as Squillia is out of ink and they are able to seemingly kill the mother and daughter for good. The Rangers laugh at their success.

Slyther decides to morph into Squillia while Mucus will be a lawyer so they can meet Lord Zedd.

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury Episode 8 Recap

The Rangers head back to the base, not knowing there is a strange thing slithering in the warehouse.

Back at the base, the Rangers start to wonder what’s going on with Zayto. Aiyon and Solon continue to try and keep what’s really going on a secret. But Zayto wakes up and hears the others’ worries.

The others notice Solon and Aiyon are acting too weird. But Zayto steps out and tells them they don’t need to lie for him anymore. He explains that he made them promise not to say anything.

Zayto assures them that he is here to stop Zedd and it doesn’t matter how long he has left. Zayto apologizes to Solon and Aiyon. He says he was able to see through how Mucus felt uncomfortable about her body that he has been making Solon and Aiyon uncomfortable as well. That’s why he has to come clean.

The others say that they are always here for him and they all share a group hug.

Just then, Slyther manages to send a message to them saying they were on the way to Eltar.

Slyther and Mucus find a Tricera statue as well as the Master Captivator. They plant explosives on the Tricera statue, however the alarm sounds. Zedd walks in and finds them, but the Tricera statue still explodes.

Something seems to happen to Ollie. But Zedd shoots at Mucus. Ollie says Mucus and Slyther deserve to suffer. And Mucus and Slyther cannot believe Ollie is still evil. Ollie snaps his fingers and Zentinels come in to capture them.

Episode Thoughts

This kind of slow burn is a little weird because you kind of expect like one final battle frees Earth. But no, it’s going to take a couple of months. And off screen too, so it feels kind of weird. But I guess that’s par for the course with this atypical season.

It’s hard to get a handle on what is the endgame. Is the endgame just whatever Zedd is doing? Or is it to save Earth? I guess it’s for Zedd since he is the reason the Rangers ended up in space in the first place. However, it feels almost like they’re dragging things out. I mean, for 10 episodes at least.

Finally though, I guess we’re at the familiar trope where Ollie pretends to be evil now even after being cleansed. Which, to be honest, while it’s been fun to see Ollie/Kai Moya play an evil character, I think it’s time to get on with it and move on. Unite the team finally!

Now as someone who couldn’t care less about MMPR, I don’t really care about Zedd’s vendetta against Zordon and all of that stuff. So I honestly don’t really care about this endgame.

But this was an alright episode I guess to set-up the final two.
