Recap: Power Rangers Dino Fury, Episode 35 (Season 2, Episode 13) – Love Hate

Buzzblast is running a “Make the Date” competition for couples to enjoy a Valentines date. Izzy and Fern win the obstacle course over Stan and Annie who are very dysfunctional.

Ollie comes into Buzzblast with a card and flowers and Izzy wants to know who his Valentine is. Amelia excitedly approaches, but stops in her tracks when she overhears Ollie say his Valentine’s name is Stella who works at Novarr Café and they don’t know her.

Ollie turns as Amelia walks over. But his smile disappears when she insults the daisies he just freshly picked out of the garden. Ollie takes offense at Amelia’s snarkiness. He says he’s leaving to go to meet Stella instead. He tosses the flowers into the trash, but his card falls to the floor.

Over at Area 62, Lord Zedd arrives with Scrozzle and Sizzurai. Zedd proposes to the king and queen that they work together to kill the Rangers in order to split Earth between them. Scrozzle had been able to retrieve Zedd’s staff from the Crystal Dimension. Void King offers blueprints from his Hengemen to Scrozzle who can upgrade them.

Zedd says in the meantime, he has a score to settle.

Over at the command chamber, Amelia is Googling Ollie’s mysterious “Stella” from the Novarr Café. But Zayto and Solon come in and she unsuccessfully tries to hide her search history by saying she was just looking into the Rafkon message some more.

Solon and Zayto think Stella Novarr could be the star system the Rafkonians escaped to. But Izzy walks in and realizing what’s going on, tells them she’ll help Amelia figure things out.

Amelia thanks Izzy for bailing her out. But Ollie teleports in hoping to ask Izzy a question. He is surprised to see Amelia, but Amelia takes her laptop and leaves.

Ollie asks what the hell is up with Amelia today. “What do you think?” Izzy asks and Ollie says it’s got nothing to do with him.

Izzy points out that perhaps it’s because Amelia hoped Ollie would ask her to be his Valentine. Ollie is excited to hear that Amelia might also be interested, but now everything’s a mess since he was so discouraged earlier.

Ollie admits to Izzy that he likes Amelia. But Izzy says she’s known for a while since it was pretty obvious Ollie and Amelia vibed. Ollie decides to leave and think of a way to fix the situation.

While Ollie tries to come up with a text to Amelia, Sizzuari pops up in front of him. They fight, but Sizzurai slashes at Ollie’s arm and he falls to the ground. He begins to glow before he gets back up.

Zedd wants to get his revenge on Ollie for having called him “radiator face.” And now Ollie will become his pet.

At Buzzblast, J-Borg finds Ollie’s card addressed to Amelia and gives it to her. Amelia reads the card and realizes the flowers were actually for her. She hurries back to the command chamber where she finds Ollie at the mainframe.

Amelia talks sweetly to Ollie, not knowing he is under Zedd’s spell. petOllie bluntly friendzones Amelia and leaves.

Solon walks in and asks Amelia what’s wrong. Amelia shows her the card and Solon thinks it’s great since she also sensed their vibe. Amelia explains that Ollie is probably upset after she brushed him off so harshly earlier. Solon suggests the two of them have a heart-to-heart chat.

But that will have to wait as the alarm sounds. The Rangers, minus Ollie, head to the location of the hotline reports and find Zedd and his minions. Lord Zedd invites them in so he can show them his pet Ollie. Amelia realizes why Ollie was so cold to her earlier.

Zedd summons the upgraded Boomblaster to face the Rangers alongside Sizzurai and petOllie.

All the Rangers morph and they battle. The Rangers have trouble fighting against their friend Ollie. Javi puts Ollie to sleep and he demorphs. Javi, Izzy and Aiyon bring Ollie back to the command chamber in order for Solon to find an antidote to the controlling poison.

Void King arrives to help Sizzurai against Zayto and Amelia. Sizzurai embiggens himself and Zayto hops into the T-Rex Blazing Megazord to battle him. Amelia takes on Void King who overpowers her and is about to finish her off. But Boomblaster says he’s being summoned back so both he and Void King leave.

Amelia and the other Rangers join Zayto in trying to finish off Sizzurai for good. But they merely bring him back down to size and he is able to escape back to Area 62.

Void Knight arrives at homebase to report that Zedd and his generals have left Earth. Void Queen is annoyed that they have been used by Zedd.

Over at the command chamber, Solon has administered the antidote and he should be back to normal. But he’s not waking up yet. Izzy suggests they pour water on Ollie to wake up him like she did to Javi when they were little. The Rangers and Solon leave to get some buckets.

Amelia stays behind and sits by Ollie’s side. She takes his hand and says she doesn’t know what she’d do if they can’t help him. Amelia says she regrets acting the way she did to him earlier. She admits that she actually really likes him.

That seems to remove the remaining poison out of Ollie’s body and he wakes up.

“Did you just say you like me?”

Ollie and Amelia finally meet at the same feelings. And they are about to kiss, but the others interrupt them.

They tease them a bit before they get back to the pressing matter of Zedd. Ollie says he remembers everything from his time as Zedd’s pet. Zayto uses his power to watch Ollie’s memories.

petOllie had taken a copy of the two pieces of the Rafkon message to Zedd. Scrozzle is able to combine the two pieces with the one that Zedd had found on his galactic travels. Put together, the message reveals the location to which Rafkon has been safely moved to. But Zedd is excited to go there.

Episode Thoughts

Okay! Now this is more like it. This has to be one of my favorite Dino Fury episodes yet.

My hopeless romantic self is definitely an Ollie-Amelia fan. So it was a lot of fun watching this cute episode. Certainly nothing groundbreaking in terms of plot. But it was executed wonderfully. And all the cute moments and misunderstandings, while predictable, were just fun and enjoyable to watch.

It’s also good to have a Ranger relationship resolve itself earlier than just the finale. Lol

For the other part of the episode, the Mystery of Rafkon is certainly one of the main points of the season. So tying Zedd into it somehow at least helps to give Zedd some purpose rather than just be some Easter egg thing for rose-tinted spectacle-wearing old fans. The actual reason Zedd is interested in Rafkon is a whole other story. So we’ll have to wait and see about that.

But it’s also good that we’re getting back into the Rafkon story since the season hasn’t been too good in maintaining that sense of urgency with Zayto and Aiyon wanting to find out if their peoples are still alive or have been blown to bits in some far-off galaxy.

There’s really not a lot else to say about this episode because it was GREAT. I loved it. And if Dino Fury were always like this, I might actually be less apathetic to Power Rangers in 2022. lolol
