Recap: Voltes V: Legacy, Episode 58 – The Strongest Metal
Big Bert takes on Draco, Jamie faces off against Zandra and potential bromance Steve and Mark battle Zardoz. But only for a few seconds. Zardoz just wants to mess around with them and orders his soldiers to capture them so he can bring them to Zambojil. The Voltes team fight off the soldiers and then hop onto the Portalis.
Steve and Mark hold their hands out to Jamie who is too slow to the Portalis and she grabs both before looking at each of her potential suitors straight in the eye so the love theme can play.
Zardoz and Co. are shocked the Voltes team is able to use the Portalis. But Zardoz flashes back to when Steve and Little Jon hugged. Turns out Steve told Little Jon to head back to the other side of the Portalis and hack its controls with Octo-1 so they could later escape after Little Jon gives a signal.
Meanwhile, Zuhl lets out a gas, causing his guards to fall asleep. Dr. Hook realizes Mark was correct when their systems detect Zuhl trying to install a virus in the system. Dr. Hook and two other soldiers head into the interrogation room, but face resistance until two Boazanian soldiers teleport in to whisk Zuhl away upon orders of a very angry Zardoz.
Zardoz calls Zuhl a traitor who must now die. Zuhl begs for his life to Draco and Zandra.. Zardoz hands Zuhl his dagger and orders him to kill himself. But Zuhl charges toward Zardoz instead. Zardoz blocks Zuhl and stabs Zuhl with the dagger before impaling him with his sword to kill Zuhl for good.
Zardoz forbids anyone from uttering Zuhl’s name ever again.
Dr. Hook and the Voltes team return to CBF. He tells them that they have to take chances and take the risk, otherwise, how would you ever know if you don’t? He’s glad they’re safe. But Mark says he hopes this will finally get them to stop being so gullible. Mark mentions Papa Armstrong and Big Bert wants to hit him.
Jamie tells them to stop and Dr. Hook tells them to get some rest. Big Bert goes to eat, Jamie leaves and Mark checks on his BFF Alpha. Little Jon asks Steve what will happen if they never find Papa. Steve tries to reassure him.
Next day, Jamie wants to go talk to Steve. But she sees Eva who checks up on him after what’s happened. Eva says she is always worried about him and is happy he’s safe. She gives him a hug.
Mark approaches and tells Jamie that Steve does not love her. If Steve did, he wouldn’t let her go like he’s doing right now. So that’s why she should just love Mark instead.
Elsewhere, General Watson and the rebels are able to save Hrothgar. And Zandra reports to Zardoz that General Oslak is about to arrive after Zambojil sent him to help mananakop Erthu.
CBF detects Oslak’s ship which is being accompanied by meteors. CBF shields are raised, protecting the base from the meteors.
Oslak sends a message to CBF and introduces himself.
I’m actually disappointed that the Voltes team were not android or holograms. They really just went there again with no other plan than to just expect their asses to be saved because they’re the heroes of the story. Lol Medyo minus-cool points on Dr. Hook for that. So it’s okay for them to suddenly be reckless? Umm… sure, whatever.
It was nice to see hand-to-hand combat though. It’s what I hoped to see more of, not knowing how much of it existed in the anime. I assumed it would all be “mecha” battles. So seeing some of that in this episode was nice. Just my toku-familiar self expecting Voltes V: Legacy to have been similar in that regard.
Again with the lax security with the people defending our world. How did the Boazanians teleport into EDF? Isn’t that place supposed to be even more secure than CBF? Craziness!
And the shoehorned love triangle stuff was funny. They felt more like filler rather than actual story. Plus, since we already know how it’s going to end, I don’t know that “it’s not the destination, it’s the journey” defense would work here. Especially with the major second lead syndrome for Mr. Gordon. hehe
Voltes V: Legacy Episode 58 is supposed to be available on GMA Network’s official YouTube channel.
But they have been very late posting the episodes lately. So nothing yet as of this posting.
I’ve seen people talk about how people worldwide should subscribe to GMA Pinoy TV in order to watch the series. I’d recommend that if you are interested in watching lots of Filipino programming. But if you only want to watch Voltes V: Legacy, I don’t think it’d be a good investment. Especially since you can’t watch the series on demand anyway. GMA Pinoy TV is a linear, premium TV channel on most cable and satellite systems.
