Recap: Voltes V: Legacy, Episode 50 – Move It
Down underwater, an angry Zardoz murders the alipins in their control room. Zambojil soon calls and again scolds them, especially Zardoz. Zambojil says he will be sending his replacement immediately. Zardoz calls all his people inutil and sends them away, except for Zandra.
Zardoz dwells on Zambojil’s harsh words on him and tearily tells Zandra to leave him alone too.
The Voltes team head back to the command center, excited for another win. But Dr. Hook says that are celebrating too early. Commander General Robinson introduces Dr. Hook who was a student of Dr. Smith and was once offered position of commanding officer, but refused. He has now accepted it after learning of what happened.
They salute each other and Little Jon says he hopes they can become good friends like with Dr. Smith. Dr. Hook says he is not here to make friends. He is here to help them win this war and train them harder as he thinks they are not good enough.
Big Bert mumbles to Steve that they’re going to have a lot of bad days with this guy. Dr. Hook asks if he has a problem. He wants them to sleep early today because they will have a long day tomorrow. Mark says they are not scared of any training, but Dr. Hook advises them to be very afraid. They better shape up or ship out.
Later, Dr. Hook heads to his new office. But he stops the staff from collecting Dr. Smith’s things, telling them to leave them here as it will always belong to Dr. Smith. All Dr. Hook needs is a desk and a spot for his “Move It” mug. He lights up a cigar as he takes a seat.
Next day, Dr. Hook leads the Voltes team in training and orders missiles to rain down on them. “Yabang ah!” Dr. Hook explains they must avoid the missiles without using their own weapons. The Voltes team protests. Mark says they’re gonna get killed at this rate, but Dr. Hook doesn’t give a shit. If they don’t follow his instructions, they’re out.
“Then die! You bunch of amateurs.”
The Voltes team has no choice. Steve advises the others on the maneuvers they must employ and are able to dodge the initial bombardment. The Voltes team again complains about Dr. Hook’s exercise. Mark says Dr. Smith would never let them do something like this. But Dr. Hook stands firm, saying they have far fallen short of his expectations.
“You know, if you die, it’s because of your carelessness!”
Dr. Hook wants them to master the Spin Fly Technique, otherwise they cannot return to camp. Mark and Little Jon want to just fly back, but Steve wants to show Dr. Hook who they really are.
The Voltes team reaches Mach-10 speed and they attempt to spin. Their vital signs are reaching critical levels, but Dr. Hook insists they continue. The Voltes team push themselves to the limit, but Little Jon decides to pull out of formation, saying he cannot take it anymore.
Little Jon goes spinning out of the whirlwind, but manages to stabilize before crashing into the ground.
Just then, a Boazan Beastfighter comes flying in. Dr. Hook asks the Voltes team how they’re going to handle this one if they just lampa all the time. Steve is offended by that, but Dr. Hook says that’s why he wants to train them hard.
The Voltes team think Dr. Hook is an asshole and are determined to prove him wrong. They Volt In and face off against the flying Beastfighter. Draco calls Zardoz and asks to change their strategy as he has found a potential weakness in Voltes V they could exploit. Draco asks to retreat back to their base in order to modify the Beastfighter’s weapon.
The Beastfighter shoots at Voltes V before it flies away. The Voltes team again thinks highly of themselves, but Dr. Hook says training will continue.
Dr. Hook is badass! Just what the Voltes team needs, to be honest. Tama naman lahat na sinabi niya eh. Not a lie detected in anything Dr. Hook said. The Voltes team is obviously mayabang. (I mean, they were cocky even before they were Voltes pilots. How much more now lol)
Overconfident and complacent. I mean, they’ve been tricked and hoodwinked several times already. And they’ve been taken by surprised more often than not. I definitely agree about the early celebrations. It’s a problem on Power Rangers too lol Celebrating small wins when the enemy is still right in front of them.
So they definitely need this kick in the ass. And seeing Dr. Hook give it to them is so awesome! I felt very exhilarated watching him tear the Voltes team a new one. A well-deserved dressing down. Just look at how they acted when the Beastfighter flew away. It’s that kind of cocky attitude that will end up killing more people. Not Dr. Hook’s training.
I think the show itself also needed this kick in the ass. It’s been so-so, gliding along with its poor pacing. But this energy boost is quite exciting and a lot of fun to watch. Hope it lasts for a while. And I hope Dr. Hook is proven right. No need for more things to feed the Voltes team’s fragile egos lol
Voltes V: Legacy Episode 50 is available on GMA Network’s official YouTube channel:
However, it is restricted to the Philippines only. Hopefully it will be made available worldwide soon!
I’ve seen people talk about how people worldwide should subscribe to GMA Pinoy TV in order to watch the series. I’d recommend that if you are interested in watching lots of Filipino programming. But if you only want to watch Voltes V: Legacy, I don’t think it’d be a good investment. Especially since you can’t watch the series on demand anyway. GMA Pinoy TV is a linear, premium TV channel on most cable and satellite systems.
