Recap: Voltes V: Legacy, Episode 28 – Bistado
Judy comes back to see Big Bert holding her communicator. She passes it off as a language translator invented by her distant kuya and has asked her to test. Big Bert looks at her funny and tells her about the idea that aliens are among them. She asks him if he thinks she’s one of them.
She insists that she might be “out of this world” beautiful, but she’s not an alien being. Judy says she can introduce her distant kuya to him. Or he could just leave her, she’ll understand. Big Bert apologizes for being suspicious of her.
Zandra asks Zardoz why he trusts his spy so much and says she’s probably been caught already. Zardoz says that is impossible because they implanted her with human adaptation abilities.
Back at CBF, Steve is waiting for Big Bert in his room so he can again remind him that it should duty above Judy all the time. Big Bert says that’s absurd and he might as well resign. He has always lost the people he loves, he’s not going to let that happen again.
Steve says Big Bert is being selfish. But Big Bert says he deserves to be. He hurries over to Dr. Smith to tell him about his resignation.
Dr. Smith and Steve ask Big Bert not to be hasty with his decisions. But Big Bert is sure about his decision. He wants to live a normal life and says there are other more deserving people to be part of the team than him.
Steve and Big Bert get in each other’s faces, but Dr. Smith gets them to calm down. Big Bert leaves. Dr. Smith tells Steve to let him be so he can cool off for now.
Later, Eva hacks into the system and sees Big Bert’s resignation letter. She sees this as an opportunity. She meets with Dr. Smith to offer herself up as a replacement Voltes team member.
Eva runs into Jamie in the elevator and they exchange catty remarks. Eva says she is sure she will be able to reach the top.
Back on Boazan, rebels are making moves against Zambojil. Baron Zander reports that they are actively searching for the rebel leader so as to prevent more attacks from happening.
Meanwhile, Little Jon and Jamie call Steve over to look at the great model ship Little Jon’s built for the competition. Little Jon says he is excited for Steve and Big Bert to watch him at the competition, but Steve breaks the news that Bert has resigned and might not make it. Steve asks Little Jon and Jamie to help convince Big Bert to come back.
Big Bert drives to Judy’s. She can’t believe he has actually resigned and says he shouldn’t have done it, especially since she is a worthless person. Big Bert tells her to stop talking nonsense. He will do anything for her.
Later, Judy teleports to the Skull to tell Zardoz that she wants to back out of the mission. She doesn’t want to do this anymore because humans are nice and don’t deserve to be deceived in this way. Zardoz says she can go ahead and quit, but then her sister will die. They flashback to when Judy begged Zardoz not to hurt her sister in exchange for her working as a spy.
A frightened Judy changes her tune and says she’ll accomplish the mission.
Back on land, Judy sees Big Bert has left his phone on her couch. She answers it when it rings. It is Steve and Judy lets him speak. Steve lets slip that he and Big Bert are Voltes pilots.
Episode Thoughts
Since it was an all-drama episode, it was just okay. Again, setting up the big revelation that Judy is an alien. Which apparently happens next episode based on the preview.
This episode I think is a good example of the lack of nuance in Voltes V: Legacy. The show really just likes to tell us everything, rather than let things play out naturally.
Like here, we jumped from everyone happy to meet Judy to now everyone thinking she’s suspicious. We go from Big Bert being infatuated with her to thinking she’s an alien spy just because she has a funny toy watch.
The moments in this episode felt too forced to have any kind of fun or exciting impact. Like, you want to be able to hop on for the ride. Not sit for a school lecture, if that makes sense.
I dunno. The episode just felt too much like going through the motions. Plot devices over character development. Oh well.
Voltes V: Legacy Episode 28 is available on GMA Network’s official YouTube channel:
However, it is restricted to the Philippines only. Hopefully it will be made available worldwide soon!
I’ve seen people talk about how people worldwide should subscribe to GMA Pinoy TV in order to watch the series. I’d recommend that if you are interested in watching lots of Filipino programming. But if you only want to watch Voltes V: Legacy, I don’t think it’d be a good investment. Especially since you can’t watch the series on demand anyway. GMA Pinoy TV is a linear, premium TV channel on most cable and satellite systems.
