Episode Thoughts

Bye bye fakePapa! It was a solid way to wrap up this story. I’ll be a broken record and point out how it really does feel like the show has cut up full-hour episodes into daily chunks. And that has affected how the series flows and its pacing. But nothing can really be done about that. I guess international viewers who will get a chance to watch the show later, edited in longer episodes, will have a much better experience.

Anyway, the focus of this episode was definitely Little Jon finding out and acknowledging the truth. And it was good. Maybe having him be in a little more danger and being able to slip away would’ve made things more exciting. And a little more confrontation between him and fakePapa. As well as with Steve too. Some nice teleserye drama could’ve added some fun. But it’s alright.

A quick, neat wrap-up to the fakePapa. But still feeling a bit disconnected to the rest of the story arc, including Dr. Smith’s death.

Elsewhere, I think this was most visually exciting battle yet. Some excellent CGI that we haven’t seen yet in the other battles. And that little moment with Mark going reckless with worry for Jamie was an added bonus and helped to raise the stakes for the battle as well.

I think what the show needs is a big win from Zardoz. Like, having him score some kind of win against the Voltes team and then the team and CBF acting all defeatist for an episode or two can add a lot of excitement for the next battle. Rising up from a big defeat can always be a thrilling moment. So I’d like to see that soon. I think it’s a good opportunity now after Dr. Smith’s death.

Overall, another solid episode. Which is all we can ask for at this point. Anything more is a bonus and welcome. But definitely a little bit better than how the show had been moving a few weeks ago.

Voltes V: Legacy Episode 48 is available on GMA Network’s official YouTube channel:
However, it is restricted to the Philippines only. Hopefully it will be made available worldwide soon!

I’ve seen people talk about how people worldwide should subscribe to GMA Pinoy TV in order to watch the series. I’d recommend that if you are interested in watching lots of Filipino programming. But if you only want to watch Voltes V: Legacy, I don’t think it’d be a good investment. Especially since you can’t watch the series on demand anyway. GMA Pinoy TV is a linear, premium TV channel on most cable and satellite systems.
