Recap: Voltes V: Legacy, Episode 49 – Dr. Hook
The Voltes team asks Commander General Robinson if they can see Dr. Smith’s dead body. Mark hesitates, but Big Bert says Dr. Smith would like to see him one last time.
The Voltes team are very emotional as they remember all their wonderful memories with Dr. Smith.
General Commander Robinson leads a final salute for Dr. Smith.
Down in the Skull, Zardoz is again frustrated that they are unable to defeat Voltes V. He orders his generals to come up with a decisive new plan. Next day, that includes attacking CBF with saucers.
Commander General Robinson takes the lead as the Voltes team hops into their Volt Machines. The Voltes team is determined to defend CBF in honor of Dr. Smith. They get into formation and attempt to Volt In, but they are under heavy fire. Volt Frigate is badly damaged and Little Jon has to return to base for immediate repairs.
Little Jon goes to the command center to talk to Commander General Robinson who looks for their reinforcements.
Zandra tells Zardoz it’s time to celebrate as it looks like the Voltes team is about to go down in defeat. They have glasses of Boazanian Wine ready to drink. Zuhl passes on a glass as they are not yet sure of anything. But Zandra and Zardoz toast to victory.
Just then, a mysterious man arrives to take command of CBF. With repairs on CBF’s shield and main systems scheduled to take more than two hours, this man thinks that is unacceptable and offers a better solution. Commander General Robinson is unsure, but Little Jon believes the solution is right.
Little Jon asks Commander General Robinson who this man is, but smiles and says they’ll find out later.
Turns out the man’s solution does work and is able to get CBF’s defenses up and running for now.
“Ang galling nyo!” Little Jon pats the man on the shoulder. The man gives Little Jon a sideeye before General Commander Robinson welcomes him, Dr. Hook, to the team.
Dr. Hook orders the Voltes team not to waste time and to quickly Volt In. Steve, Mark and Big Bert are confused as to who this man is. But Little Jon arrives in a repaired Volt Frigate and they are able to Volt In.
Zardoz orders Zuhl to blow Voltes V up, but nothing happens when he pushes the button. Turns out CBF had already found the implanted bomb and removed it.
Voltes V is able to easily destroy all the remaining flying saucers.
A good episode to transition from Dr. Smith to Dr. Hook. I have no idea who Dr. Hook is or what part he plays in Voltes V. But it was a good introduction to him.
I don’t expect anything more to say goodbye to Dr. Smith, like a funeral or something like that. So that salute is probably the final salute. And that’s alright. They cycled through the memories with him and it showed how much of an impact he had on the team. So that’s good.
Having Little Jon need to return to CBF and witness Dr. Hook’s skills and command was good as well. It helped to highlight immediately who this man could be. So it will be interesting to see what his story is moving forward.
Overall, a good episode. A transition-type of episode, but it worked well.
Voltes V: Legacy Episode 49 is available on GMA Network’s official YouTube channel:
However, it is restricted to the Philippines only. Hopefully it will be made available worldwide soon!
I’ve seen people talk about how people worldwide should subscribe to GMA Pinoy TV in order to watch the series. I’d recommend that if you are interested in watching lots of Filipino programming. But if you only want to watch Voltes V: Legacy, I don’t think it’d be a good investment. Especially since you can’t watch the series on demand anyway. GMA Pinoy TV is a linear, premium TV channel on most cable and satellite systems.
