Recap: Voltes V: Legacy, Episode 46 – Octo-1 Investigation

Papa Armstrong feels bad that he is being doubted this way by his children. As Steve is about to leave, Papa Armstrong has no problem telling them their birthdays. Steve walks out as Big Bert is happy to know this is their true Papa.

Big Bert follows Steve out to ask what his problem is. Steve insists that this does not prove anything. Big Bert says ever since their Mama died, Steve has not allowed himself to love again. First with Jamie and now with Papa.

Alone in his room, FakeNed contacts Zardoz with an update. Zardoz reminds him of his mission to wasak Voltes V for good.

Zardoz explains to Zandra that he used their technology to make a humanoid copy of Ned Armstrong and installed all the information he was able to collect from the camp about the Armstrong Bros. If anyone ever doubts the humanoid, they will merely die at his hands.

That evening, fakeNed gifts Little Jon a model ship he supposedly made while flying back to Earth. After Little Jon leaves to show his brothers the boat, fakeNed asks his guard to come in and show how to use the computer. While at the desk, fakeNed snaps the guard’s neck and stuffs him in the closet.

While Dr. Smith ensures high security tonight at the camp, Steve visits fakePapa and apologizes for how he acted earlier. fakePapa says he will prove to him he is real one day. They hug and fakePapa is about to stab him in the neck, but Commander General Robinson and Jamie come knocking on the door.

Commander General Robinson is so happy to see Ned is alive. Steve looks at his fakePapa and asks if he remembers the Commander General. Using the information he’s accumulated so far, fakeNed is able to pretend that he knows all about Robinson and their friendship.

Commander General Robinson and fakeNed enjoy some drinks while waiting for Dr. Smith. Robinson asks fakeNed how his mission to Boazan went, but of course, fakeNed has no idea what he is talking about.

Dr. Smith asks where fakeNed’s security guard is and he says he told him to take a break.

Steve talks to Big Bert and Little Jon and reminds them to be careful around Papa Armstrong. Little Jon says Steve is so “heartless” and Big Bert tells Steve to stop talking this way in front of the little kid. Big Bert takes Little Jon and they leave to go spend time with their Papa.

Octo-1 tries to comfort Steve and offers to help. Steve asks Octo-1 to sneak into Papa Armstrong’s room and report back any unusual things he comes cross. Octo-1 excitedly flies away.

Later, Eva kisses Steve when she sees Jamie come walking up. Mark sees and invites Jamie out for a walk outside.

Meanwhile, Dr. Smith and Commander General Robinson talk about their doubts regarding Ned. Robinson says he did notice Ned seem like he was surprised when hearing about the mission to Boazan. Dr. Smith calls S&M Edwards with a special mission.

For Octo-1’s mission, he is able to sneak into fakeNed’s room and immediately finds the dead security guard in the closet. Just then, fakeNed comes in and Octo-1 sees him with an explosive device.

Octo-1 scans fakeNed and confirms he is an android.

Episode Thoughts

Well, a solid episode I guess. Like I said last week, it would’ve been nice to see fakePapa roaming around a little bit more before we get confirmation. But that’s okay.

Though it’s a bit out of character for PK Steve, I do like the conflict between the brothers. Anything to add a bit of drama there.

It’s funny though how the show can move so slowly (such as fixing the bioscan device) on some things, but move so fast on others. Plot device deus ex machinas and pacing will be the show’s biggest missteps, I think.

(I mean, wtf was that scene with Eva/Steve/Jamie/Mark. Lol Absolutely irrelevant and unnecessary! Lol)

And the 10-episode extension is not going to help that. But we’ll see.

Fun to see Octo-1 getting some screentime and in a significant way. And as we expected, he’s the first one to confirm fakePapa’s identity. Something different and refreshing.

Overall, an okay episode to start the week with.

I’ve seen people talk about how people worldwide should subscribe to GMA Pinoy TV in order to watch the series. I’d recommend that if you are interested in watching lots of Filipino programming. But if you only want to watch Voltes V: Legacy, I don’t think it’d be a good investment. Especially since you can’t watch the series on demand anyway. GMA Pinoy TV is a linear, premium TV channel on most cable and satellite systems.
