Recap: Voltes V: Legacy, Episode 47 – Dr. Smith
Dr. Smith tells Steve to be careful with his brothers since he’s not always going to be here for them. (FORESHADOWING!) As long as they stick together as Voltes V, planet Earth will be alright.
Octo-1 watches from the closet as Dr. Smith goes to see fakeNed so they can finally do the bioscan. fakeNed believes the scanner proves he’s real, but Dr. Smith says nope. This Ned is fake.
fakeNed kicks Dr. Smith and grabs the two soldiers’ weapons to shoot them dead. fakeNed grabs Dr. Smith by the neck. Dr. Smith says Voltes V will never be defeated, even if he is dead.
fakeNed stabs Dr. Smith in the stomach and then leaves. Octo-1 comes out of the closet and confirms everyone in the room is dead. He hurries over to Little Jon to tell him what’s happened. Little Jon yells at Octo-1 and then removes his battery to turn him off, saying no one can siraan his Papa.
fakeNed walks toward the Voltes hangar and kills anyone that gets in his way while shutting down all CCTVs. He is able to get inside and plants the explosive he keeps manifesting out of his hand. fakeNed leaves, killing more guards along the way. But Steve, Mark, Jamie and Big Bert arrive to find the dead sprawled out on the floor.
fakeNed alerts Zardoz who says it is time and orders his generals to release the next Beastfighter.
S&M Edwards reports to Steve and Friends that they haven’t detected any anomalies with the robo, but they’ll have engineering check as well. Steve says the man who looks like Papa is the only suspect, much to Big Bert’s annoyance. They all hurry to look for him, but Little Jon has already found him. Little Jon tells fakeNed about Octo-1 and the fake father thanks him for it.
Steve and the others head to their fake father’s room and force their way in to find Dr. Smith’s dead body.
“Naniniwala ka ngayon?!” Steve asks a shocked Big Bert.
The alarms sound as the Beastfighter is rampaging in the city. Mark does not want to just leave Dr. Smith like this, but Steve says they have to go. Mark puts Dr. Smith’s hand on his chest before he hurries after the others.
Zardoz is excited to see Voltes V and its pilot explode.
Little Jon meets the others in the command center and Big Bert drops the bomb that the man they thought was their father killed Dr. Smith. But they have to set that aside now as they hop into their Volt machines.
Meanwhile, fakeNed calls Zardoz who tells him his final mission is near.
When you title your episode with the name of a character, you can be sure they’re going to die today. Lol So thanks GMA for spoiling us early and taking away all the potential excitement and shock. Lol
And before anyone says anything, no, not everyone watched the anime and knows every single episode by heart, okay?
Anyway, of course everything was too rushed. But that’s par for the course with Voltes V: Legacy. Still, having Dr. Smith die is a good way to drive story for the team as characters. I think it will affect Mark and Steve the most. Mark, because of everything Dr. Smith did for him. Little Jon, since Dr. Smith was his best friend, but also accepting that the fake Papa killed him. With Steve and Big Bert, they too lost a father figure. And Big Bert will have to deal with being gullible for a 2nd time, I guess lol
The moment with Mark putting Dr. Smith’s hand on his chest was one of the more sincerely emotional moments of the series so far.
I liked Big Bert just bluntly telling Little Jon what’s happened. Little Jon is a Voltes pilot, after all. He doesn’t need to be babied. Let him grow up a little lol
I think it would’ve been funnier had Little Jon asked Octo-1 to spy on the fake Papa. Would’ve made Little Jon even more upset that way. lol
Overall though, another solid episode. Looking forward to another Beastfighter defeat tomorrow. lololol
Voltes V: Legacy Episode 47 is available on GMA Network’s official YouTube channel:
However, it is restricted to the Philippines only. Hopefully it will be made available worldwide soon!
I’ve seen people talk about how people worldwide should subscribe to GMA Pinoy TV in order to watch the series. I’d recommend that if you are interested in watching lots of Filipino programming. But if you only want to watch Voltes V: Legacy, I don’t think it’d be a good investment. Especially since you can’t watch the series on demand anyway. GMA Pinoy TV is a linear, premium TV channel on most cable and satellite systems.
