Recap: Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger, Episode 12 – Bakuage Engine

Taiya thinks he’s found a Boonboom Car in the grass, but it is actually Engine Speedor from the Machine World. Taiya takes him back to the garage and Speedor asks if they can help him find his partner Sosuke.

In coming to this world, Speedor hit something that had an evil effect on his soul and he cannot return to his normal size. He believes Sosuke will be able to help him. Speedor goes on to tell them about Go-Onger.

Mira says Speedor and Sosuke’s partnership is just like Taiya and BunBun’s. BunBun agrees.

Taiya promises to deliver Speedor to his partner.

Speaking of, Sosuke brings a lost boy to Officer Jou’s police box. Sosuke asks Officer Jou to watch the little boy while he goes to look for his mother. Sosuke flips a coin and runs off. Officer Jou has trouble trying to talk to the crying little boy. But after a minute, Sosuke is back with the boy’s mother.

Meanwhile, Cannonborg overhears the General3 complaining about him. But Cannonborg reiterates that he is taking over this Earth mission. He brings about Geta Grumer who starts rampaging downtown turning people’s stylish sneakers into getas.

BunBun alerts the Boonbooms about the Grumer and they hurry over. Sosuke follows Officer Jou as he hurries over as well.

The other four Boonbooms henshin and first fight off the Nejiretta. Officer Jou arrives and henshins just as they turn their attention to the Grumer,

The Grumer suddenly attaches a pair of geta, each weighing 50 tons, to the Boonbooms’ feet. With the Boonbooms weighed down, the Grumer is able to attack them. But Speedor swoops in to help them.

The General3 watch the scene and comment how Speedor looks like Yaruka who protests.

Just before the Grumer delivers a finisher at the Boonbooms, Sosuke arrives and tosses a coin at it. Sosuke greets his partner and Taiya completes Speedor’s delivery to him.

Sosuke quickly henshins, much to the Boonbooms’ surprise. Sosuke charges forward and the Grumer slaps the two getas on his feet. Sosuke, however, is still able to inch his way forward with the heavy slippers. Speedor tells Sosuke to grab hold and he helps propel his partner forward.

Sosuke and Speedor are able to deliver an attack at the Grumer, releasing them all from the geta weights. The Boonbooms thank Sosuke for his help. But they must now work together to finish the Grumer off.

After the Grumer embiggens, the Boonbooms hop into Boonboomger Robo. Sosuke hops into Engine-Oh. The two do a three-legged Race to work together and get Geta Grumer. After wearing down the Grumer, The Boonbooms and Sosuke deliver a finisher to take care of the Grumer for good.

Later, Speedor, Bus-on and BearRV tell Sosuke about Machalcon getting married. Everyone is waiting for Sosuke to come attend the wedding.

Sosuke says he’ll leave this world to the Rookiegers in the meantime. Sosuke hops into Speedor and they head off to the Machine World.

Taiya is inspired by Sosuke and Speedor’s partnership and thinks about his relationship with BunBun.

Episode Thoughts

A very fun episode. From what little I’ve seen of Go-Onger, I think this episode did a great job at kind of putting a mini spotlight on Taiya and BunBun’s relationship and partnership. Very subtle, but very meaningful as well. All to continue building upon our Boonbooms and their stories. It’s not hard to see Sosuke and Speedor’s relationship and how it can compare to Taiya and BunBun.

On the flipside, it was a nice little crossover and visit with Sosuke and the Engines. And of course the two seasons have the vehicle theme in common. So it works out in many ways.

Having senpais visit is also a fun way to encourage the rookies and be an extra torch passing in addition to the little handshakes of course.

Some nice tidbits with the dynamic between the General3 and Cannonborg too. And some great choreography throughout the episode, especially the first henshined battle.

Overall, a straightforward, but fun and very enjoyable episode with a visit from some old friends.
