Recap: Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger, Episode 6 – White and Black

Mira accompanies Shashiro in following Officer Jou around as he is a bit suspicious of him. Shashiro does not think anyone can ever be as earnest as Officer Jou, so he is determined to reveal his true colors. Mira thinks this should be fun.

Meanwhile, Taiya visits Investigator Shirabe with a program BunBun developed that would allow ISA satellites to be able to pick up incoming aliens toward Earth. The program works almost immediately as it detects something zooming through Earth’s orbit.

The Three Generals are just finishing up lunch when they see what they think is a meteor falling in the sky. It turns out that it is actually Captain MadRex arriving on Earth for the first time with his dog Hashiri.

Next day, Officer Jou has the day off. But Shashiro and Mira continue following him. They are able to see that Jou is a very popular guy as many people he meets happily greet him and thank him for helping them in various things. Shashiro still doesn’t believe it.

When Officer Jou picks up a coin on the ground, Shashiro thinks this is it. But Officer Jou actually takes it to the police box to turn it in. Shashiro still does not believe Officer Jou could be so earnest.

On the other side of town, MadRex goes into a restroom and inserts a key into a toilet to bring about Toilet Guruma. BunBun alerts Taiya who already sees a lot of ghassolin being emitted from people who have been doused with toilet water.

Taiya henshins. MadRex says he will deal with this tire guy while Toilet Guruma continues rampaging. MadRex goads Taiya into showing him some fun.

Officer Jou arrives on the scene as more people get flushed with toilet water. Shashiro and Mira arrive and they realize the toilet water is able to bring out people’s inner thoughts and true selves. They call Taiya, but he asks them to handle this situation themselves as he is quite busy at the moment.

Shashiro, Mira and Jou henshin. Shashiro thinks Toilet Guruma could be useful in exposing Officer Jou’s true self.

As they fight off Nejiretta, Mira is about to get flushed with toilet water. But Officer Jou jumps in to shield her from the attack. Shashiro thinks this is it. But Officer Jou’s feelings don’t change at all. He vows to protect the people and the Boonbooms.

Shashiro is surprised. But just then, he too gets flushed with toilet water. Shashiro hugs Officer Jou and apologizes for doubting him. He says Jou is the purest black in the world and asks for his forgiveness.

Officer Jou says of course he forgives him. Shashiro says they should protect the peace together. So they dap each other up before working together to take on Toilet Guruma. Mira is amused to see the true Shashiro is also hot-blooded.

The three of them deliver a finisher at Toilet Guruma, but Yaruka comes sucking up the ghassolin and heads into the Highway. Shashiro tells Mira to pilot Bundorio because she’s the most pedal to the metal than any of them. The three rev up and hop into their Cars. BunBun makes sure to turn his stove off before joining them.

The Boonbooms are able to eventually trick Yaruka to take a rest stop exit. And Yaruka is able to spit out an embiggened Toilet Guruma. The Boonbooms combine into Boonboomger Robo Police and they finish off the Guruma for good.

Everyone returns to normal, including Shashiro who calms down a bit from his honest, hot-blooded inner self.

Meanwhile, Taiya battles Mad Rex at the quarry but has a bit of trouble. Having watched from nearby, Genba rolls a manhole cover over to Taiya to use a shield and protect from MadRex’s attack.

MadRex says it’s time to go home, but first asks what Taiya’s name is. Taiya says “Bun Red” and MadRex is sure they will meet again. Especially when Taiya is the first to go up against him without crashing and burning.

Back at the base, Shashiro can’t believe he exposed himself. He tries to pass it off, but the others are just amused.

Mira says they were able to prove they can fight without Taiya and Officer Jou says he looks forward to working with his senpais. Shashiro asks why Officer Jou calls him “Shiro-senpai”, Officer Jou thought his name was Sha Shiro. But Shashiro says his full government name is Meita Ishiro. Officer Jou says that still makes him “Shiro-senpai:”

Episode Thoughts

What a treat! I think the best part of this episode was in how they were able to show the growth of the team’s relationships. It was a fun way to do it with Shashiro’s suspicions and doubt toward Officer Jou. It all very much suited each of their characters: Mira with her carefree self just following along, Officer Jou really being an earnest and sincere police officer and Shashiro our tsundere blue!

It was also great how they were able to show that the others are capable enough on their own without Taiya. They proved themselves here in a way that touches upon their full team dynamic as well as show our heroes are sincere, dedicated and strong individuals. Which makes them even more powerful together.

Lots of fun moments, especially with Shashiro, Mira and Officer Jou. This moment was particularly amusing:

And the closing scene talking about Ishiro’s name was funny too.

This episode was also a great introduction to MadRex who also fits in well with our Three Generals. Again, he is a much lighter villain so far. So I just know they’re lulling us into a false sense of security
