Recap: Voltes V: Legacy, Episode 26 – Octo-1
Big Bert goes to Dr. Smith to ask if he can introduce Judy to him tomorrow and tour her around CBF. Dr. Smith breaks the news to Big Bert that Jamie was almost murdered today, so he can’t allow anyone to just come onto base. Big Bert protests, but Dr. Smith insists he cannot break the rules just for Big Bert’s girlfriend.
Later, Big Bert runs into his brothers. Little Jon teases him about bringing Judy to camp tomorrow. Steve does not think that is a good idea considering the threats against Jamie. Big Bert lies and says Dr. Smith already said yes. Steve wants to speak with Dr. Smith, but Big Bert snaps and says his big brother has become a control freak since their mother died.
Big Bert says Steve is being unfair since it’s not like Judy is the assassin. Little Jon tries to calm them down as they begin to argue. Big Bert does not care. He’s bringing Judy to CBF tomorrow and will take responsibility if anything happens. Big Bert says he won’t be introducing her to Steve lest he say something bad to her.
Later, Little Jon talks to Steve and says he should let Big Bert be happy by letting Judy in to CBF. Steve says fine.
Next day, Steve relieves Apable from his post while he and Mark are with Jamie. They talk about Big Bert’s girlfriend visit tomorrow. Mark says only weak people enter into a romantic relationship in order to gain validation. He adds that he doesn’t need such things since you’ll only end up hurting yourself.
Steve says he can accompany Mark to a psychiatrist if he wants in order to deal with all his baggage. Mark seems to take offense and says he doesn’t have any baggage, unlike Steve and Big Bert who are needy. Jamie stops them from arguing.
The alarms start to sound when a fire is reported in Little Jon’s room. They hurry over and Little Jon explains that everything’s fine. Steve scolds him. Mark leaves and Jamie tells Steve to calm down. No need to shout.
Little Jon excitedly shows them his newest invention which he calls the 6th member of the Voltes team: Octo-1.
Octo-1 flies around the room and introduces himself to everyone.
Outside, Steve tells Jamie they should not spoil Little Jon since he is a member of the Voltes team. But Jamie says that’s exactly the reason they should spoil him since they’re robbing him of his childhood. Jamie is being very expressive with her arm movements. Steve holds her hand to stop her and say that Judy has arrived with Big Bert.
Jamie feels a bit kilig by the moment and they walk over to meet Judy.
Down in the Skull, Zardoz tells Zuhl and Zandra the good news that his spy is about to be able to enter the Voltes V camp. The two generals also share that they have developed the next Beastfighter.
Zandra shows Zardoz the new Beastfighter and he compliments her. But Zandra says Draco also had a huge role in developing it, so he deserves compliments too.
Zardoz visits Draco in prison and the general asks for another chance. Zardoz says Draco should thank Zandra for changing his mind. In fact, if they fail again, Zardoz has no problem getting rid of all of them.
Zardoz and his generals are together when they think they’re getting a call from Zambojil. It’s actually Baron Zander who laughs at Zardoz for being a failure. Zardoz storms out and Zandra follows him, offering some comfort and support. Zardoz feels better and encouraged after speaking with her.
Zandra returns to the lab and overhears Zuhl talking to Zambojil who gives him a special mission. That is to watch Zardoz’s every move and report back to him. As well as ensure that Zardoz fails his mission. Zuhl does not understand. But Zambojil wants Zardoz to lose every battle.
Zandra immediately goes to Zardoz to tell him what she’s heard. But Zardoz refuses to believe it and says he could kill her for such blasphemous words against the emperor. She says to go ahead and kill her because she knows she is telling the truth.
Episode Thoughts
An okay episode. If the action scenes carry other episodes, Octo-1 carried this one lol Very cute! I’ve been thinking, Why didn’t GMA team up with McDonalds or Jollibee to make kids meal toys? Or in the last few years, work with a company to develop even limited edition toys or figures. People would absolutely eat those up.
I mean, I’m not asking for S.H Figuarts here. (Though I might splurge on a Mark or Octo-1 Figuarts! Lol) Just simple toys, especially to promote the show to the kiddos. And of course, make more pesoses which GMA is all about.
Anyway, the rest of the episode was just moving everything forward. So it’s fine. Nothing too exciting or surprising.
I always surprise myself when I side with Steve. Lol But I definitely agreed with him when it comes to not allowing Judy onto base. And that’s even without knowing she’s a spy. You can’t just bring anyone you want to your base. Especially if you think there’s a spy or traitor or whatever. The assassination attempt on Jamie is just even more reason to tighten up security. So bringing in your new girlfriend who you’ve met only a few times is not the smartest thing to do.
Especially when it appears there are no CCTV cameras at CBF. Lol
So Steve was being cautious (rightly so) and Big Bert was letting his libido do the thinking. But also, Mark was right that they’re quite needy. Not just because their parents are dead. But also because they’ve grown up being very pampered and spoiled. So they’re used to getting their way.
I would say that is an interesting character point. But so far, the show hasn’t really proved that any of these moments are actually consequential character development pieces. Lol
Over at the Skull, I feel like their story moves very slowly. And not in a way that offers up a deeper dive into their dynamics or characters. But just slow for filler’s sake. This episode introduced the idea of Zuhl potentially becoming a saboteur. But I actually prefer seeing the generals argue more and perhaps have their own motives. I don’t know if Zuhl actually agrees with sabotaging Zardoz. But if he does, have him just do it without showing us Zambojil telling him. Or offer up more red herrings to make us assume he’s doing something, yet in the end he’s loyal to Zardoz. I dunno.
The way they kept hitting us over the head with the fact that Zardoz has a spy, I think, undermined any tension and excitement from the reveal. That and the fact they made it quite obvious it was Judy.
Anyway, an okay episode that was mostly to inch the story along. But with Octo-1 stealing the show, very easily.
Voltes V: Legacy Episode 26 is available on GMA Network’s official YouTube channel:
However, it is restricted to the Philippines only. Hopefully it will be made available worldwide soon!
I’ve seen people talk about how people worldwide should subscribe to GMA Pinoy TV in order to watch the series. I’d recommend that if you are interested in watching lots of Filipino programming. But if you only want to watch Voltes V: Legacy, I don’t think it’d be a good investment. Especially since you can’t watch the series on demand anyway. GMA Pinoy TV is a linear, premium TV channel on most cable and satellite systems.
