Shinichi and Sonoza continue arguing about each other’s weakness. Sononi says this is no time to argue. Sonoi agrees with Shinichi proposing the Donbros take charge in resolving this predicament. But Tsubasa says he plans to enjoy his freedom and would rather not be held back by them. He wishes to go back to the time when he didn’t know their identities.
Later that evening, Tsubasa and Miho are in the park enjoying the stars in the sky when a police officer recognizes him as a wanted man. Tsubasa grabs Miho and they run.
Tsubasa believed he was cleared of all charges, but they see the new wanted posters on a wall. Tsubasa believes this must be the unlucky consequence of his Kibi Points redemption to resurrect Sononi.
Just then, the cop finds them. But Sononi comes to their rescue and is able to whisk them away to safety. Tsubasa says he owes her one, but Sononi says she should be the one saying that considering what he did for her.
Tsubasa reminds Sononi that he wants nothing to do with her. He grabs Natsumi and they leave.
Next day at Donbura, Haruka and Sonoza wonder how Tarou could’ve gotten captured so easily. Anyway, Haruka says she is happy they are working together now. But Sonoza reminds her to continue working on her manga.
Sonoza admits that he used her manga to seal Murasame so he could read and learn from it. And in turn, possibly tame him.
Sonoza has finished his meal, but he has no money to pay with. He refuses Haruka’s offer to treat him. So Master Kaito has him work alongside Haruka as a server to pay for his bill.
Shinichi, Sonoi and Sononi come in and Sonoza has them quickly sit down to take their orders. They try to figure out what their next move should be. Haruka and Shinichi suggest they deal with the Hitotsuki while the Noto3 deal with Sonoshigoroku
Meanwhile downtown, Sonoshi and Sonogo watch as Sonoroku wreaks havoc by “helping” people. Like throwing a grandmother’s grocery bags or tossing a baby carriage (with baby!) into a door portal.
Over at the apartment, Tsubasa and Natsumi are enjoying lunch. But Natsumi asks why he is a fugitive and who that Sononi was. Tsubasa says it’s a long story.
Instead, Tsubasa asks Natsumi if she knows about “Miho.” She tells him that was her name in her dream while in the forest. She dreamed she was a beautician named Miho and thinks she had it because of wanting to be a hairdresser long ago.
Suddenly, the Hitotsuki couple find each other. But because they would go back to normal if they reunited, Sonoshi ensures that does not happen. The Donbros are summoned with their Donblasters and they head to the scene. The Noto3 also show up so Sonoshigoroku transform. The Notos battle while Shinichi, Haruka and Tsubasa try to deal with the Hitotsuki. Unfortunately, Sonoshi is able to whip up a distraction and Tsubasa and Haruka are sucked in as well.
Over in Kakamura, Jirou is still trying to come to terms with the fact that he grew up in an illusion. abunaiJirou pops in to remind Jirou that he has been the only one truly by his side all this time. abunaiJirou says it’s time they become one.
Jirou agrees and abunaiJirou properly fuses with him.
That evening, Sonoshigoroku decide to stop by the oden cart that Sonoi is now working at. Sonoi disguises himself, but loses his cool when Sonoshigoroku ridicule the delicious food. Sonoi blows his top, however, when Sonoroku speaks ill of Tarou.
Sonoshi sprays Sonoi with a fire extinguisher and Sonoi heads over to Donbura with a plan.
Sonoi explains that the Sonoshigoroku and the two Hitotsuki must be fought at the same time. But with only one of them left, an opening where they could defeat the Hitotsuki would appear as Sonoshigoroku let their guard down.
Next morning, the Noto3 and Shinichi find Sonoshigoroku and the Hitotsukis in an abandoned warehouse. Sonoshigoroku taunt them before they transform and do a roll call.
The two sides battle. But some stray attacks free the Hitotsukis from being chained to a beam. Unfortunately, Sononi and Sonoza also get sucked in by them.
According to their plan from last night, Shinichi was to wield Tarou’s sword in the decisive battle. But Shinichi says he’s actually terrible with a sword so he tosses Tarou’s sword to Sonoi and allows himself to get sucked in by the Hitotsuki.
Sonoshigoroku taunt Sonoi and say they will fight him blindfolded just to make it more fun. But Sonoi uses this opportunity to take care of the Hitotsukis. Defeating them means the others are free. Tarou calls Sonoi his otomotachi.
Jirou arrives just as the nuDonbros henshin to take on Sonoshigoroku. The two Hitotsukings shoot at them so the Donbros, including Jirou, transform into their mechas. Jirou introduces his new self to the others while Tarou introduces a golden version of Onitaijin. They easily finish off the Hitotsukings while the Noto3 are able to drive Sonoshigoroku away.
The Hitotsuki’d couple are back to normal and happily reunite.
Over at Donbura, Sononi is grateful for Tsubasa being safe. Haruka welcomes Tsuyoshi back to the human world while Sonoza serves Shinichi a fresh ice cream sundae to celebrate his plan that worked. Shinichi says it was actually Sonoi’s plan. But they all agree that each one of them played a part in the success.
Outside, Tsubasa tells Tarou he knows this was his plan all along. Tarou was to get himself captured in order to force everyone to work together. Tarou refuses to confirm it, but Sonoi believes the same thing as well.
Tarou and Sonoi exchange smiles.
It definitely doesn’t feel like after this episode, there’s only TWO more episodes left with the Donbros. 😭 I am already missing the Donbros. Huhu
But anyway, I loved Episode 48. What else is there to say? It was a great episode.
It’s funny because it was your typical “teamwork” episode that you usually see with the main team early in the first couple of weeks of the season. But here, it’s used to bring together the Donbros and Noto3. Even though they don’t really need a big episode to come together, this episode played out well and in perfect Donbro fashion.
For that part of the episode, it wasn’t complicated at all. It was very straightforward. But it was done in a way that made sense in the Donbrothers world. Because of that, it contributed to the episode not feeling like an Episode 48. But still worked as a Donbrothers episode.
As for the other plot threads this week, I very much enjoyed seeing the soapy love square not being resolved yet. I absolutely loved that short scene at the beginning with Tsubasa, Natsumi and Sononi. The tension was (relatively) high and I was definitely craving for more of it. Judging from the preview, we’re gonna get it next week with Tsuyoshi too.
They stealthily reminded us about the Juto playing out a human’s dreams. Or I guess the idea that the Crane Juto weave stories together. Which is what the Juto did with Natsumi by becoming Miho while impersonating her. Looking forward to seeing the potential conclusion to this plot thread next week.
As for Jirou, I was hoping for a bit more than just him absorbing abunaiJirou and his other personality, I guess. Still two episodes left of course, but I think that part of Jirou’s story will probably be one of the biggest bits of missed potential for me. They could’ve done a lot with the idea of Jirou having grown up in, essentially, a lie. But somehow the season ran out of time or just didn’t pace things out better. Or this was really just their intention all along. Which I get with the season’s slice of life approach.
The Tarou-Sonoi connection was strong in this episode too. You want a Donbro #endgame? I think the only thing you can be sure of is a Tarou-Sonoi endgame. 🤭
So overall, this episode definitely should’ve come earlier. But now that it came and went, I still loved it.
