Recap: The Amazing Race Australia 6, Episode 8 – “I’m feeling very oily and moist.”

The Amazing Race Australia 6 Episode 8

Beau is still in quarantine, as are Kathy & Chace and Stuart & Glennon. Because Ada experienced some troubles at the end of the last Leg, Scott Tweedie will fill in for Beau in the meantime.

Teams will hop into provided cars and use the navigator app on provided phones to enter coordinates to their next destination, Kimiz Farm outside Nazarkoy.

Here, teams will get oiled up and then participate in oil wrestling by working together to try and get at least one body part of a wrestler out of the circle within three minutes.

Angel decides to let Frankie handle the wrestling on his own. But he fails his first attempt. Flick & Gabby go next, but are unable to even move the wrestler an inch. Chelsea decides to stand aside and let Jamus handle the wrestler. And for their next attempt, Angel decides to join Frankie. Both teams pass. Pako & Mori easily push their wrestler out next, though they wish they had messed around with the wrestler a little longer. Morgan & Lilli are close behind.

Heath & Toni and Flick & Gabby pass next. Tammy & Vincent take three seconds to push their wrestler out. Another blur of teams finish one after the other. Jodie & Claire, who had trouble entering coordinates into Google Maps, arrive last.

After the wrestling, teams will drive into Nazarkoy for the Road Block: Who has an eye for detail? For this Road Block, teams must make a traditional evil eye, an ancient talisman to ward off evil spirits, by using handmade glass.

Frankie, Heath, Pako, Chelsea are first to finish the Road Block.

After the Road Block, teams will drive to Kula to participate in the Messir Macunu Festival-inspired Detour: Sweet Obsession or Street Procession. In Sweet Obsession, one team member must wrap a spiced candy known as mesir macunu. They will then toss them over their shoulder from the balcony to their waiting team member below who must catch 50 using an umbrella. In Street Procession, teams must put on traditional outfits and then learn the traditional yaren dance before performing it in a parade.

Angel & Frankie decide on the dance. Heath & Toni and Pako & Mori also choose the dance. Chelsea & Jamus do the candy instead.

Back at the Road Block, Claire ends up burning her hand on the scalding hot rod. A medic checks on her, but she’s okay and goes back in to the workshop to finish the task even before some other teams. Though the others are right behind.

Over at the Detour, Angel & Frankie get the thumbs up with the dance and can now make their way to the Pit Stop at The Gentleman’s House. Scott Tweedie has arrived in Kula and he calls Beau to catch up.

Angel & Frankie step on the Mat and Scott checks them in as Team #1.

Heath & Toni and Flick & Gabby are next to get the thumbs up with the dance. And they check-in as Teams 2 and 3.

Chelsea & Jamus get their 50 umbrella candies and run to the Pit Stop. Scott asks them where their backpacks are. They realize they left them in their car so now they have to go all the way back to retrieve them. Chelsea is feeling defeated. Jodie & Claire have finished the candies, but they also have left their bags in the car.

Pako & Mori and Morgan & Lilli check-in as Teams 4 and 5. Fliss & Tottie, who recognize Scott, are 6th. Lauren & Steph finish 7th.

Jodie & Claire have arrived at their car while Kelly & Georgia and Tiffany & Cynthia get their 50 candies. Tammy & Victor finally get the thumbs up at the dance, but are in last place now after repeated fails.

Kelly & Georgia get to the Pit Stop as Team #8. Jodie & Claire at 9th. Tiffany & Cynthia are 10th.

It is now down to the last two teams. And it is Chelsea & Jamus to step on the Mat as Team 11. That means Tammy & Vincent are last and eliminated. They call Beau who promises them a hug in the future.

Episode Thoughts

*insert requisite whining about teams getting a free pass through the Race because they caught COVID*

I think this was the most normal Leg of TARAu6 so far. The tasks, the Leg design and the team dynamics (and number of teams!) were all more familiar and normal than how Network 10’s TARAu is. And because of that, I quite enjoyed this episode and Leg.

That is, until the ending! NOOOOOO!

Getting to use Google Maps on a self-driving Leg? How very TARPHDME. lol

The oil wrestling was an okay. Of course, it can get awkward when everyone’s oiled up and women have to tackle male wrestlers. But it all ended up okay. It was less physical than other wrestling tasks from other TARs. Actually, even that of TARAu2. It was also good that there were three circles and not just one.

The Road Block is probably one of the season’s best tasks so far. It’s not the typical glass blowing task we usually see on TAR. So it was a fresh take on it and it wasn’t as easy or straightforward as it could’ve been.

The Detour was a good. Both tasks have their own challenges. Both can be tedious. And so teams just have to get through them. It did well to help shuffle the teams a bit more.

Overall, maybe the best Leg and episode of the season so far. EXCEPT for the ending. I guess we can’t have it all. huhu

Team Thoughts

I don’t even care about the other teams because I am so sad Tammy & Vincent are eliminated! NOoOOOO! They were such a fun team to watch. And while they faded a bit in the last few Legs, they were still so great to see in the fleeting moments they were on. They made a strong first impression and set themselves apart from the other teams. That’s huge in a season with 72 teams. So it is really sad to see them go.

Can we just eliminate the COVID teams and bring them back next Leg please?
