Recap: The Amazing Race Australia 6, Episode 6 – “This place is obsessed with stairs.”

The Amazing Race Australia 6 Episode 6

Teams head to Arachova for the 6th Leg of the Race. The first clue tells teams to head to the Church of Saint George, climb 264 steps and then dress up as a bridge and groom. As part of Greek wedding tradition, the groom must pin €10,000 to the bride. And when the bride can spin three times without any money falling off, they’ll get the next clue.

Teams trudge up the stairs and get started dressing each other up.

Pako & Mori celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary while Kelly & Georgia reminisce of their wedding from a few months ago. Lauren & Steph wonder if they’ve already gotten married with this task.

Inclement weather arrives with rain and snow and wind making money pinning a bit more difficult.

Pako & Mori are first to get a check and they get the thumbs up. After a kiss, they open the next clue telling teams to hop onto one of two buses to take them to the top of Mount Parnassus. They must collect snowbombs and board the chairlifts to dop at least one bomb into a target in the snow in order to receive the next clue.

Only eight teams can take the first bus. And the second bus cannot leave until the last team boards.

Heath & Toni, Flick & Gabby and Lauren & Steph are next to get the thumbs up followed by Chelsea & Jamus, Kelly & Georgia and Angel & Frankie. All these teams get onto the first bus. It’s a footrace for the last spot and it goes to Crystal & Reem.

Jodie & Claire have to settle for the second bus along with the rest of the teams.

However, Beau is already at the top of the mountain where the Detour and Pit Stop is supposed to be. But a blizzard warning has just been issued and everyone is being evacuated.

In another “world first,” teams will stop at the bottom of the mountain instead. They receive the next clue directing them to make a giant snowman. Bus #2 arrives while the first bussers are still rolling their snow into men.

Pako & Mori are first to finish and get the next clue telling teams to find Beau at the Pit Stop. Teams will board the bus in the order they finish the snowmans which will give them an “advantage” for the 2km Race to the Pit Stop at the Church of Saint George, which is where they started the Leg.

Before leaving, Pako & Mori give their BBFs Flick & Gabby some advice on how to effectively pat down their man of snow.

Teams get their snowmans approved in the following order: Lauren & Steph, Angel & Frankie, Heath & Toni, Chelsea & Jamus, Kelly & Georgia, Flick & Gabby, Tiffany & Cynthia, Morgan & Lilli, Jodie & Claire, Fliss & Tottie, Crystal & Reem, Tammy & Vincent, Sam & Stu and Stuart & Glennon.

Back in Arachova, teams are released in the order they finished the snowmans and they all run to the Mat. Pako & Mori check-in as Team #1 followed by Lauren & Steph, Angel & Frankie, Heath & Toni, Chelsea & Jamus, Kelly & Georgia, Flick & Gabby, Morgan & Lilli, Tiffany & Cynthia, Fliss & Tottie, Jodie & Claire, Crystal & Reem and Tammy & Vincent.

It’s down to Sam & Stu and Stuart & Glennon. And it is the Baru Mates who survive. That means Sam & Stu are last and eliminated.

Episode Thoughts

Well, obviously a horrible Leg. And I feel like they should’ve had backup tasks, even one or two, especially since they knew the weather could be bad at that time. It’s not like the blizzard popped up out of nowhere.

I like snowmans, but they spent half the episode making one. The first half of the episode was teams pinning money on wedding dresses. The other half was snowmans. Definitely an episode you can watch at 2x or 3x speed, to be honest, and not miss a thing.

Delaying the Leg would obviously throw logistics out the window. But considering how much they’re going on the fly with COVID and giving the Lawyer Cousins a First Class Pass for now three Legs, I think cancelling the Leg outright and just doing a Double Elimination next Leg would’ve been better.

How horrible to have been eliminated with just these two tasks? And Sam & Stu were nice guys, which makes it even worse.

Welp, you throw everything you know about TAR out the window with Network 10’s TARAu.

Elsewhere, what an interesting Greek tradition. Filipinos do a similar tradition where at the wedding, guests pin money gifts onto the bride and groom while dancing.

Ultimately, a meh episode and horrible Leg done in by a blizzard that should’ve been anticipated.

Team Thoughts

I’ll be honest, I didn’t get much from the teams since I watching on 1.5x speed the whole way through. Especially when it was obvious that they weren’t going to be doing anything else. Imagine if this episode aired on a Sunday and it would be the typical 90-minute slot? Yikes! I’m surprised they even had enough material for this episode.

Anyway, all the teams were fine this Leg. I’m happy no team asked for a check of an already-approved snowman to submit as their own. Progress!
