Koh, Melto and Asuna are back home struggling to figure out how to save Nada. Asuna asks Pii-tan if he knows how to defeat Gaisorg, but Tyramigo says not to believe him since he ran away.
Tyramigo insists he knows more about Gaisorg anyway. Melto asks him what he knows and Tyramigo says he’s hard. Melto says that’s obvious.
On the other side of town, Towa tells Bamba that Nada regrets his decision and shouldn’t have relied on the armor. Bamba remembers his past with Nada, having tried to reason with him before he left the Ryusoul Tribe.
Nada, regaining control of his body for a moment, says time is running out. He holds Gaisorg’s sword to his neck, but Gaisorg speaks up and tells him resistance is futile.
Gaisorg regains control of Nada.
Meanwhile, Gachireus is scolding Kureon and a couple of Drunns about always losing to the Ryusoulgers. Gachireus orders Kureon to bring forth an ultimate Minosaur that can end humanity immediately.
The Drunns carry Kureon through the alley when he gets an idea. He forces his slime into one of the Drunns.
Towa and Bamba meet Koh, Melto and Asuna on a rooftop as they search for Nada. Melto says if they can destroy only the armor, then they might be able to save Nada.
Just then, they hear a commotion across the city. Suddenly strange black streaks rise into the sky forming a cloud.
Canalo calls them back home when Oto suddenly grows uncontrollably hateful.
She even tells Melto that he is fake to his face, much to his hurt and shock.
Asuna carries Oto over her shoulder to get her to stop with the verbal attacks. Pii-tan explains that there was a rainbow rain outside and Tyramigo says everyone that’s been touched by that rain has begun fighting each other.
This is the work of Kureon’s new Jack-o’-lantern Minosaur that uses candies to suck up people’s hatred which it uses to create the rainbow-colored rain that causes people to become violent.
Kureon explains that the next huge rainbow rain cloud will cause all of humanity to become violent and kill each other.
The Ryusoulgers arrive. Towa and Bamba engage the Minosaur while Canalo takes on Gachireus. But Gaisorg suddenly appears, again looking for the most powerful opponent.
Gaisorg attacks Koh, Melto and Asuna. Gachireus knocks Canalo, Towa and Bamba aside to protect the Minosaur and leave the Ryusoulgers to battle Gaisorg.
Back home, Tyramigo puts a blanket over Oto and says he will go look for the Minosaur. But Pii-tan has an idea.
Koh tries to reach out to Nada, but Bamba says Koh needs to snap out of it. Nada is lost. Melto says it is too late and they must defeat Nada for good. Canalo says they must deal with Nada as they must also finish off the Minosaur before it makes it rain murder.
Towa thinks about Nada saying the Gaisorg armor seeks out the strongest. He screams and grabs DosshinSoul from Koh. He uphenshins and attacks Nadasorg who he is able to drive back to his knees.
Koh yells for Towa to stop it as Nada’s body can’t handle a beating from DosshinSoul. But Towa says that’s the point. The armor seeks out the strongest. So if Nada’s body weakens, Gaisorg will release him and search for a new host, allowing them to rip the armor from Nada’s person.
Just then, a huge cloud of screaming faces echoes as hatred emerges from Gaisorg. They believe that is the hatred that’s attached itself to Nada and Melto says they must cut that hatred from him.
Suddenly Koh dehenshins and holds his arms open, telling Gaisorg to come into him.
The cloud of hate immediately enters Koh. That’s when Melto realizes they can use the Minosaur to suck that hate out of Koh.
Melto calls Tyramigo. But Tyramigo says he’s not Tyramigo, but Ptyramigo. Pteradon has attached to Tyramigo, allowing them to fly and search for the Minosaur.
The Gaisorg armor begins to unattach itself from Nada, piece by piece and attach to Koh. Bamba, Towa, Melto, Asuna and Canalo all try to protect Koh by stopping the armor from reaching him.
But the armor’s power is so strong that it forces them all to dehenshin.
Bamba still tries to hold off the next pair of armor pieces and sees Nada moving slightly. Bamba screams to Nada, asking if he really wants this to happen. Nada has always run away, from the village and from their duty as members of the Ryusoul Tribe. Will he be running again this time?
The armor pushes Bamba back, but he does his best to dig his feet in. The others get up and support Bamba, using all they have to hold the armor back.
Bamba tells Nada to stand up and finally face a challenge head on for once. He screams for Nada to stand up and fight.
Koh gets up from the ground and joins the others. He shares with them Nada’s memories of wanting to be a Ryusoulger and how he had more pride in the Ryusoul Tribe than anyone he’s ever known.
And if they can make their souls one with Nada, he too is a Ryusoulger.
Gaisorg’s sword is about to zoom toward Koh, but Nada grabs it. The remaining Gaisorg armor stops its progress toward Koh a Nada regains consciousness.
Nada says they’re pretty bold lecturing their sempai. “I really hate that part about you all.”
The Ryusoulgers are relieved.
Meanwhile, Ptyramigo has found the Minosaur and drives it toward the Ryusoulgers. It hurls candies right at Koh, sucking out all the hatred from him.
The immense amount of hate creates a huge cloud that engulfs the entire sky above Tokyo.
Canalo reminds them they have to defeat the Minosaur before it rains. But the Minosaur opens its umbrella and flies above the clouds.
Ptyramigo tells Koh to call Pachygaroo. The father and son hurry over and combines with Ptyramigo to form KishiryuOh Jet. Koh hops into the cockpit and they fly up to where the Minosaur is relaxing on a lawn chair.
They battle up above the clouds and Koh is able to drop the Minosaur back down through the clouds. The Minosaur opens its umbrella to safely glide down. But Koh and KishiryuOh Jet attack. The Minosaur closes the umbrella and uses it to shoot at them.
It starts to rain on the ground. Koh hurries and proclaims there is no need for hatred in the world. He delivers a KishiryuOh Blizzard Inferno to finish off the Minosaur for good.
The black cloud of hate in the sky quickly disappears.
Nada lets out a sigh of relief and laughs.
Back home, Oto wakes up, good as new as Ui and Papa Naohisa arrive home from shopping.
Papa Naohisa says it was strange on their way home. Everyone in the city was extremely nice to them today. Everyone even offered their seat to him on the train.
The others believe the Minosaur sucking up everyone’s hate must have made everyone completely kind. Bamba wonders if they should’ve let the Minosaur live a little longer then if that was the case.
Just then, Ui and Papa Naohisa are shocked when Gaisorg walks in.
But it’s just Nada scratching his back with the sword.
Nada says he can now control the Gaisorg armor any way he likes and it’s thanks to all of them.
Koh smiles as Nada tries tickling Towa and Melto.
I was absolutely in tears. This had to be one of the grandest, most epic regular season/non-finale episodes of toku I’ve ever seen. Some truly amazing scenes matching a truly affecting story.
Now not everything was perfect of course, especially in the build up to this climactic episode. But it still worked big time and was an absolutely amazing half-hour of television.
So many things to love about this episode. Towa telling his brother about Nada’s regrets (continuing what we saw from Towa the last few eps) and him taking charge when he went DosshinSoul. Bamba’s impassioned plea to Nada. Melto’s decisiveness throughout the episode. Asuna’s raw emotion. Even Canalo’s zoomed in face when Oto wakes up.
And of course Koh’s sincerity and positive personality. His belief in the good of other people was used effectively in this episode.
It was just one scene after another. All working together in this perfect harmony, so to speak to really help make this such a compelling episode.
I’ve mentioned before how Nada is a great character because he isn’t clear cut. He’s obviously done some bad things and has held many negative (minus!) feelings. But he hasn’t been completely irredeemable, in a sense. We’ve certainly seen him subtly express doubt and regret over the last couple of episodes. But we’ve also seen him egging the others on in a negative way. Kind of like throwing shade or outright criticizing them.
But it does appear that his time spent with them has helped him fight off his initial negative thoughts. He hates “that part” of them/the way they act that is so opposite of the way he has acted and faced challenges.
That’s why one of my criticisms is that we should’ve seen more of those scenes between Bamba and Nada. Bamba mentioned before that he knew Nada and of his leaving the Tribe. But it would’ve been nice to have seen a few more snippets like we saw in this episode of Bamba and Nada’s previous interactions. I think that would’ve given even more weight to Bamba’s absolutely excellent monologue. And also establish a little more where Nada was coming from, but not completely until this episode of course.
Still, this episode proved to be dramatic and so emotional. And even balanced with plenty of lighthearted moments as well.
The Jack-o-lantern Minosaur was pretty awesome. (I just cringe about the idea that a future Power Rangers season will turn this episode into a clip show Halloween special.)
But the shot of the Minosaur opening up its cute pumpkin umbrella as it fell to its certain death was both amusing and exciting at the same time. Such a contrast to the Minosaur’s morbid power of driving people so violent that they go around killing each other.
In addition to the writing and the excellent performances of the entire cast, the directing in this episode was just especially great.
This shot was absolutely stunning and terrifying. The screaming faces of all the hatred that Gaisorg’s absorbed from every person it has ever possessed. And especially hearing the wailing from those faces:
And this scene with the helmet being formed in the clouds:
Another amazing use of drones here:
Both scenes particularly helped bolster the epic feel of the proceedings.
But this episode brought an aspect I’ve pointed out before full circle. I’ve been critical of the way Ryusoulger has handled their numerous episodes dealing with suicide. Especially since each instance actually had the foundation to be dealt with in a great, meaningful and respectful way.
This episode featured Nada willing to slice his own throat so as to be released from Gaisorg’s control once and for all.
Again, ending one’s life as an answer to one’s problems. We saw it with Ui, the Mayor. Maybe even Kureon that one episode where he was depressed from the abuse he was getting from Gachierus.
And here, we saw Nada and that scene. But later it dawned on me during Bamba’s plea to him. Nada had always run away from challenges and hardships. And for some, ending one’s life is seen as running away. There’s obviously many unique reasons why someone would choose to end their life. You can’t put everyone under the same umbrella, as it were. But Ryusoulger has also shown how others can help someone move away from those types of feelings and help strengthen them in a way that allows them to keep fighting and moving forward.
But it all makes more sense to me now. When we look at this season, where do Minosaurs (Minusaurs) come from? From the minus, negative feelings of a person or thing. The Druidons exploit those feelings to create the monsters and in driving those birthers deeper into that negative space, they are essentially pushing them to their deaths. It might not be directly suicide, but it almost kind of presents it in this metaphorical way? I’m not sure if that’s the right word for it.
But basically, seeking support from people you trust and not being afraid to reach out and accept that support can help combat negative/minus feelings. And that’s true for something as heavy and serious as contemplating suicide. Or something as simple as being upset you missed your favorite TV show. And everything in between.
When the Ryusoulgers realized and learned of Nada’s real feelings, they reached out to him. They saw he needed helped and offered themselves to support him.
And we haven’t talked about the episode also basically saying there should be less hate in the world. Which is true.
So aside from all the technical wonder and exciting developments in this episode, it’s this realization I had that made my already positive feelings for the episode that much stronger.
Just an absolutely incredible and memorable episode that should be remembered for many years to come.
