Everyone at the Energy Management Center is dressed up and greets us (!?) a Happy New Year. Ryuji and Yoko ask Hiromu what he wished for and he says nothing. Not even peace or good health or happiness? Re
Those aren’t things you should ask God for, instead you should work to obtain them yourself, he says.
The alarm sounds and the Go-Busters head out only to realize it’s just Buglars. But while they easily take care of most of them, two stragglers hide with what looks like Escape’s tablet.
Ryuji and Yoko head back to the command center where Gorisaki immediately whisks Ryuji away. Meanwhile, Hiromu meets his sister who is waiting with Nick. She gives him a little New Year’s money as well as cards she’s made for everyone. She then hurries off for a “real fight” she has which confuses Hiromu and Nick.
Gorisaki dresses Ryuji in a fancy suit and says he’s got a “real fight” today too. A curious Yoko finds a folder with a woman’s picture and takes it to Jin, Morishita and J who all think Ryuji’s gone for a marriage meeting. That means Yoko would be gaining an older sister. Hiromu and Nick overhear and Nick thinks maybe Rika is also on a marriage interview.
Gorisaki introduces Ryuji to Rena, the daughter of one of Kuroki’s former colleagues. He takes Gorisaki aside who tells him this is a marriage interview he set up after seeing Kuroki decide it’s not a good time for one. He tells Ryuji that all good soldiers should have a wife waiting for him at home and that he doesn’t know how much longer he can take care of Ryuji. Plus, it’d be rude to just leave Rena.
Ryuji and Rena head inside the restaurant. She asks him about his job. He roundabountly says he protects the Earth from viruses and she deducts that he’s a system engineer.
While Gorisaki paces back and forth in front of King Kong, a disguised Yoko, Jin and J (dressed as a woman lol) are watching Ryuji.
Yoko is judging her possible older sister with points and J decides to have his own marriage interview. Their commotion bothers Hiromu who’s sitting at the next table over.
Both Hiromu and Yoko want to be happy for their older siblings, but aren’t sure how. Jin explains they should support them however they can to repay them for all they’ve done for them. Hiromu calls Morishita to turn off Ryuji’s communicator so he won’t be bothered.
Meanwhile, the two Buglars goof around with Escape’s tablet until they let it fly and attach itself to a mochi square. The alarm sounds at the command center. Morishita informs the Go-Busters and Yoko wonders why there’s still Enetron spikes and Megazord transports after they had already defeated Escape and Messiah (and Enter). Hiromu says they must take care of this quickly and quietly so as not to disturb Ryuji’s marriage interview.
But as they all run out of the restaurant, Ryuji sees them and begs Hiromu and Yoko to stay. Hiromu runs off saying he has to use the bathroom first, leaving Yoko to take care of distracting Ryuji.
Jin and J finish off the Buglars, but the little Omochiroid blasts some sticky glutinous rice at their feet as Hiromu arrives.
Back at the restaurant, Rena returns from the restroom and Ryuji introduces Yoko as his little sister. Yoko says she’s here because her brother doesn’t have much luck with women. Er… her brother hasn’t had time since he is always busy with his work as a system engineer.
Ryuji wonders what’s taking Hiromu so long and Yoko says she’ll go check. She hurries to Hiromu and others and tells him they should switch since Ryuji’s getting suspicious. Hiromu tells Jin and J to take care of the Megazord while he and Yoko find the Metaroid.
Hiromu joins Ryuji and Rena and introduces himself as Ryuji’s little brother. Outside, Omochiroid is looking for a way to grow and sticks everyone’s feet to the floor with more mochi. Ryuji hears the commotion, but Hiromu says he’ll go and check. He gets stuck as well and calls Yoko to return to the restaurant.
Jin and J form Buster Hercules as the Megazord arrives. Hiromu returns to the table and Ryuji notices he’s not wearing shoes. Hiromu says they slipped off on the stairs.
Ryuji gets up to go to the toilet and asks Hiromu to stay with Rena for a little bit. But Rika sees him and wants to introduce him to the guy. But they suddenly hear explosions and Hiromu runs off to tell Jin and J to try and be a little quieter.
Hiromu says they haven’t found the Metaroid yet and J says they must still be in a New Year’s mood since Hiromu didn’t even notice he had a mochi stuck to his butt earlier. Aha!
Hiromu feels the déjà vu and starts looking around for a small Metaroid. Ryuji notices and asks if he heard anything weird just now. It was just him sneezing, Hiromu says and excuses himself for the bathroom again. Ryuji is even more suspicious.
Jin and J are trapped inside a big kagami mochi and Kuroki sends Lioh.
Hiromu and Yoko head to the restaurant kitchen to look for the Metaroid who jumps into a heated pan and embiggens. (As glutinous rice is meant to do.) Yoko tells it to stay small or Ryuji will notice! (Priorities!)
Ryuji tries to call the command center and Morishita doesn’t know what to do. Hiromu says to trick him somehow, so Morishita answers.
“I am Michael, I’m filling-in today. I do not know Japanezu.”
Michael hangs up as Kuroki, Nakamura, Nick, Usada and especially Ryuji have WTF splashed all over their faces.
Meanwhile, Lioh arrives to free Buster Hercules and they team up to finish off the Megazord. Down below, Hiromu and Yoko have trouble fighting off the squishy mochi.
Rika runs into Ryuji and asks why Hiromu is acting weird. He realizes what’s going on and they search the restaurant for him and Yoko. They find Hiromu’s shoes.
Hiromu goes Powered Custom and uses Lioh Blaster to finally finish off Omochiroid who has stuck himself to the ground.
They de-henshin just as Ryuji and Rika find them outside.
Back inside, Rika tells Hiromu and Nick that her big fight wasn’t a marriage interview, but a meeting with a publisher to talk about a contract. On the other side of the restaurant, Rena tells Ryuji that she’s interested in someone else and apologizes. SHe only agreed to the interview because Kuroki was a friend of her father’s. Ryuji is more than happy.
Outside, Hiromu says he should visit the shrine to pray for peace and happiness for everyone after all.
That was a very fun episode. Now that fourth wall breaking at the beginning might have been a little odd at first, but the episode’s true purpose quickly became apparent.
Maybe it would’ve been better had the episode aired last week as the requisite breather after the huge, heavy, dramatic Christmas episode. But even so, this was a fun, enjoyable episode with lots to smile about.
Now I could’ve sworn the first little Metaroid we saw earlier in the season was an eraser, not a little rice cake. And it was. So that kinda threw me off. Similar, but not exactly the same Metaroid. Got it. They were both fun and I could see the concept becoming Go-Busters’ own Jealoushuto. (Who is absolute awesome sauce.)
Interesting to see Escape’s tablet still working. I know we probably haven’t seen the last of her (and of course Enter).
Anyone else thinking Ryuji ends up with Rika after the war is over? My shipper heart jumped at them teaming up sorta in the end. Hee.
But I think the best part of the episode was Michael… erm, Morishita. lol
