Recap: Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters, Mission 48 – Setting the Trap

Go-Busters 48

Enter explains how he had inserted the 13th Messiah Card into Hiromu the day he had introduced the Cards to them. It’s a special one because all the data that had been gathered by the other cards has been transferred to it, including Enter’s own data. The Card is programmed to restore his data every time he is destroyed. That’s how Enter knew Hiromu’s weak point, as the 13th Card also gathered Hiromu’s data.

Enter tells them that if they want to fully eliminate him, they should start with Hiromu and he disappears.

Nick watches as Hiromu is furiously training. At the Command Center, Nakamura confirms the 13th Card is inside Hiromu showing the others the data.

Go-Busters 48

Hiromu is out running now, despite Nick trying to get him to rest. Hiromu finally trips and falls and tells Nick he now knows why Enter never finished him off before. He takes the water from Nick and pours it on himself before covering his head with a towel.

Yoko comes out and tries to comfort him saying Ryuji, Jin and Kuroki are doing everything they can to find a way to take the Card out of him. He tosses the towel onto Yoko’s head and tells her not to be too serious. They can leave the complicated stuff to the experts. He leaves her and Nick outside to take a bath.

Meanwhile, Enter revives Escape in the forest. She has a pet snake wrapped around her arm as she starts firing at Enter. Papa Messiah or Enter, doesn’t matter as long as you’re strong, she says. Enter hides behind a nearby tree and wonders if it really isn’t possible to restore her to the way she was. It surprises him that he is actually even trying. “Could this be my amour for you?” he asks himself. Could be, since they had also collected data on love.

Nah, you’re just corrupted data, he concludes and tells her to become as good as she envisions herself before he bids her Adieu.

She smiles before pouncing on a crow perched above her. She then makes it into the city and swipes a dog.

Back at Command Center, Jin uses Jenga to explain how during teleportation, one is split up into data and then rebuilt at the destination. So, maybe they can try and eliminate the Card data at that destination point before it gets reassembled with the good data.

Cool, that might work the others say. But Jin suddenly knocks the blocks over. He apologizes, but says this is all theoretical anyway. Kuroki acknowledges that data is too complicated and they could lose Hiromu in the process.

Go-Busters 48

Hiromu’s all cleaned up and comes to the Command Center to grab his jacket. He compliments them on the hard work they’re doing and says he’s going to rest early and leaves. Usada and Gorisaki ask what in the world just happened.

Go-Busters 48

Hiromu’s down in the garage getting ready to go out. Nick knows he’s planning to go see Enter. He won’t stop him, but he’s not letting Hiromu go alone.

Ryuji, Yoko, Jin and J come down to try and stop him. You trying to kill yourself? Jin asks. Hiromu says he hasn’t decided yet, but he does know he doesn’t want to drag them all down with him. He drives off.

Go-Busters 48

It’s daybreak and Escape has made the dog into a shawl.

Go-Busters 48

Hiromu goes onto a rooftop and Enter arrives. Non non non, what are you doing, he asks, don’t tell me you’re thinking about killing yourself. Hiromu says he’s prepared to do that, but before that he’s going to do what he can.

Hiromu henshins directly to Powered Custom.

Go-Busters 48

And they fight. You seem pretty confident knowing I won’t kill you, Enter says, but he can still hurt him.

Go-Busters 48

Morishita tells the others where Hiromu is, but they are stopped by Escape with her dog shawl, crow feather in her hair and the snake still wrapped around her arm. She laughs again before transforming to her new accessory-covered form. The others realize she can now combine with animals in addition to plants.

Go-Busters 48 Go-Busters 48

Jin tells Yoko and Ryuji to go to Hiromu, but Escape stops them.

Go-Busters 48

Meanwhile, Enter and Hiromu take their fight to ground level. Nick notices that Enter’s movements are similar to Hiromu’s. Hiromu wants to test it out and launches into a Volcanick Attack. So does Enter,

Ryuji, Yoko, Jin and J get knocked around by Escape until they focus one Final Buster attack on her with Lio Blaster. She gets knocked back into the building, but survives.

Go-Busters 48

“I want to be like Papa,” she says as she combines with the warehouse and embiggens. The workers from inside the building get spit out from Escape, meaning she can’t combine with humans yet.

Ryuji hops into Go-Buster King and says even though she’s the enemy, even she doesn’t deserve this pointless repetition. The four launch an Emission Break and she gets knocked back down to size. Ryuji finds her lying on the ground. “Papa, I became pretty good right?” Ryuji answers Yes and she dissolves.

Go-Busters 48

The others join Ryuji and they head off to find Hiromu.

Go-Busters 48

Enter goes to attack but Hiromu uses the flames of their Volcanick Attack to tie them up together. Hiromu asks Enter, since he has his data, then he would know that the suit can only endure the fire for two minutes. Ah, so this is a lover’s suicide, Enter says.

Hiromu says with Enter and the backup gone, the battle will be over. So if he wants, he can take the card out of him otherwise they both die here. The others arrive to see Hiromu’s big gamble. Tres bien, Enter says, just as expected from his “chosen human.”

Go-Busters 48

Hiromu disconnects Nick just as Enter says “As you wish” and they both explode. The others fear the worst, but Hiromu appears wrapped in cables.

Go-Busters 48

They disappear and he collapses. They realize maybe the Card protected him and won’t let Hiromu die. Good for Enter as he again revives.

Don’t you see Red Buster, he says, you cannot defeat me. Each time I’m restored, I become stronger, like this…

Go-Busters 48 Go-Busters 48

Enter proceeds to morph his face into Hiromu’s and calls out “Let’s… Morphin.”

Episode Thoughts
Okay, okay. The mountain is getting higher to climb for the Go-Busters. Now it seems like they have no possible way to get that Card out of Hiromu. They can’t even kill him to do it.

I do feel a little let down with Hiromu being not-suicidal. Maybe I wanted to see them play that up a little more, make it more overdramatic. I really liked Mack being suicidal in the finale of Power Rangers Operation Overdrive. (That sounds so horrible. Suicide is bad of course. Don’t do it.)

But I did want to see that heaviness on Go-Busters. It’s not like they haven’t done it before. Now that we know Hiromu can’t die, it takes that element away. But it does raise the stakes for both the Go-Busters and the show itself. Just how are they going to finish this battle?

Still, the Go-Busters and Hiromu especially have done the same thing all season. They don’t do anything without a plan first. These are smart guys, after all.

To the little things… I really liked that scene of the humans getting spat out of embiggened Escape. And Escape’s new form is ugly, in a good way. I mean, that’s what happens when you combine with forest animals. Point being, you don’t want to have face that every day.

Only two episodes left! I hope Mission 49 leaves us with a huge cliffhanger for the finale.
