Saturday Sounds, January 27, 2024 – SISTAR19, POW, EVNNE, DXMON, TWS

An exciting comeback from K-pop legends and great releases from talented rookies! On this Saturday, enjoy new tracks from SISTAR19, POW, EVNNE, DXMON and TWS.

“No More (Ma Boy)” by SISTAR19

When I first heard of Hyolyn and Bora’s comeback as SISTAR19, I was so excited. I thought to myself, “Wow, it’s been a while.” Little did I realize it’s been 11!!! years since their last release! WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?! Excuse me?!?!?! That’s absolutely crazy. And definitely a reminder that I’m getting older.

And while Hyolyn and Bora have also gotten older in those 11 years, they prove they’re still at the top of their game with “No More (Ma Boy)”. They are both effortless as they absolutely deliver the alluring charisma and magnetic performance with this comeback track. An addictive dance track that is both nostalgic for the K-pop of 11 years ago while very much at home with the music of today.

“Valentine” by POW

POW makes their first comeback with single “Valentine,” a lively and unique pop track whose catchy melody and sweet lyrics allow the group to showcase more of the charming personalities and performances we saw with their debut. A nice track from them. But I’m definitely looking forward to their next album!

“Ugly” by EVNNE

I really enjoyed EVNNE’s debut track “Trouble”. And their first comeback track “Ugly” is just as addictive. It’s hard not to get caught up with the charismatic energy the group exudes in their performance. The rest of the album Un: SEEN features tracks that are just as good. And it’s easy to see how much the rookie group is well on their way! I will always look forward to their new music moving forward!

“plot twist” by TWS

Pledis debuts their newest boy group TWS. And their debut track “Plot Twist” is a great introduction to them. It’s an interesting track. It has a refreshing sound that evokes a bright and youthful vibe. It certainly suits the group. But the song also takes on some unique turns, especially with not having a traditional chorus. I feel like the song doesn’t quite have that hook that lasts long after you have listened to the song. But its overall refreshing sound definitely still commands attention.

The rest of their debut album Sparkling Blue follows with similar vibes. I think “unplugged boy” is my favorite.

“Spark” by DXMON

Rookie group DXMON made their official debut with title track “Spark” and pre-release track earlier this month “Burn Up”. “Burn Up” is an energetic hip-hop dance track. And it is a solid introduction to the group. But I much prefer “Spark” which I think is a great mix of charisma and performance. The hip-hop-infused pop-dance track is a bit catchier for me and definitely more my speed. And it features a refreshing and unique sound. The rest of the album Hyperspace is a good showcase for what the rookie group is capable of. I will keep an eye out for them!
