Teams were able to get a good night’s rest at the midpoint of this SuperLeg. And they definitely needed it for what was to come.
Vicki & Hayden were grateful for remaining safe at the SuperLeg midpoint and for ending up only five minutes behind other teams after having check-in at the Abandoned Mat more than an hour and a half behind the 7th place team.
Directions and self-driving continued to be a problem for many teams. Benjie & Kobe and Marco & Michele, who had been the two leading teams at the Midpoint fall behind, allowing Janice & Inah and Carmina & Cassy to arrive first at Al Jarda. It would be a lead that they manage to maintain throughout the Leg.
And they were able to do so thanks to four teams getting U-Turned, much to everyone’s shock. Marco & Michele, Benjie & Kobe, Troy & KC and Gee & Archie fall behind as they rush to complete both sides of the Detour. All four teams fall to the bottom as the other four, non-U-Turned teams move to the front on the way to Sur.
It isn’t until the Road Block that the U-Turned teams are able to catch up. While Janice & Inah and Carmina & Cassy extend their lead and comfortably check-in at the Pit Stop as Teams 1 and 2, the other teams struggled under the hot sun.
Vicki & Hayden and Jervi & Luke were the 3rd and 4th teams to arrive at the Road Block. But Vicki and Luke struggle trying to find the shuwa. As much as Hayden wishes he could take over for his wife, they had already used the Interchange in a previous Leg.
As three of the U-Turned teams get luckier with finding the shuwa, the bottom three teams begin to grow frustrated and exhausted. After searching for almost an hour, Michele decides to use the Interchange and Marco takes over at the Road Block. But he too struggles. After Jervi & Luke leave in 6th, it’s down to the last two teams.
And it ends up being Marco & Michele who depart next, leaving Vicki & Hayden in last place. Hayden tells Vicki that she doesn’t need to continue, but she wants to keep going. And on the next dig, she finally finds the shuwa.
The husband and wife are able to finish the Leg, but unfortunately they are last and eliminated.
