Seok Hoon returns to the penthouse and is taken aback when Dan Tae says Su Ryeon kept Logan imprisoned here. Dan Tae leaves for a shower and Seok Hoon quickly tries calling his mother.
As the Lee goons drag Yoon Cheol away, Seo Jin arrives saying James knows she’s here. She accuses Yoon Cheol of working with Su Ryeon regarding Logan. But Yoon Cheol knows this was Seo Jin’s doing.
Yoon Cheol accuses Seo Jin of killing Yoon Hee. But she says Yoon Cheol is the murderer since he abandoned and betrayed her.
Seo Jin leaves. But one of the Lee henchmen kindly tells Yoon Cheol to hop in the car.
Back in the penthouse, Seo Jin is with Dan Tae who happily celebrates the success of the plan. Seo Jin confirms that she injected Logan with the poison so he shouldn’t last a day more. Dan Tae is happy to hear that.
It turns out Dan Tae knows Seo Jin’s secret plans and wants to make sure he remains one step ahead of her at all times moving forward. But Seo Jin thinks the same and sets her sights finally on Dan Tae.
Over at the guest house, Logan and Su Ryeon share an emotional and passionate reunion. Yoon Cheol arrives and they explain to her how it all went down.
When Seo Jin injected the poison in Logan’s IV, she noticed his finger twitching. Secretary Do takes boiling water and pours it on Logan’s feet. But he doesn’t seem to feel anything, so Seo Jin thinks she was just imagining things. Seo Jin promises to send Su Ryeon to him in heaven very soon.
After Seo Jin and Secretary Do leave, Logan quickly gets up, screaming from the pain of his burnt foot. Yoon Cheol soon arrives and realizing what’s happened, he injects an antidote to save Logan’s heart from failing.
Logan drops the bombshell that it was Seo Jin who was behind all of this. He flatlines and Yoon Cheol quickly meets with Alex.
“Cheon Seo Jin, that crazy ass lady?! Aw no, I’m going to kill this lady.”
Yoon Cheol explains the situation and Alex is ready to shoot Seo Jin in the face. But Yoon Cheol calms him down and says they must go along with Logan’s plan.
Alex swears to God that he will kill Seo Jin and Dan Tae even if it means using all his family’s money.
While Su Ryeon was getting brand new luxury Jakomo furniture delivered to the penthouse, Secretary Do works with the housekeeper to sneak “Logan” into the “helper room.” Seo Jin gives the housekeeper the order to bring Su Ryeon down to the room at just the right moment later in the evening.
Just when Su Ryeon was being confronted by the Lees, Logan disconnected his heart monitor which caused the machines to show he flatlined. In the ambulance, Secretary Hong tries to give Logan CPR. But he is shocked when Logan pops up perfectly fine and says to contact Alex and to not touch a hair on Su Ryeon’s body.
Alex personally wheels Logan to the guest house which he has on lock down. No one can get in other than Alex or his “peeps.” Logan says they can’t let their parents know otherwise they will ruin their plans. But Alex suggests they at least tell grandma.
Logan says being with Su Ryeon now has made all his suffering worth it. For now, they must let everyone think Logan is dead.
Su Ryeon explains that Seok Kyung is her real daughter and says her focus for now is to find her. Logan says Yoon Hee’s death is his fault since he asked her to find the missing daughter.
Su Ryeon will ensure that Yoon Hee will not have died in vain. Seok Hoon arrives and they fill him in.
Next morning, Seok Hoon confronts Dan Tae about what happened to Su Ryeon. Dan Tae says he couldn’t do anything to Su Ryeon even if he wanted to since the Lees took her. Anyway, Seok Hoon just needs to relish being the only one left to enjoy all this wealth since he’s Dan Tae’s only flesh and blood.
Following Su Ryeon’s advice, Seok Hoon continues to play along with Dan Tae and not let him be suspicious.
In the lobby, Seok Kyung is about to whack Dan Tae from behind. But Dong Pil grabs her and drags her to the common room where they wait for Seok Hoon to arrive.
Dong Pil leaves and Seok Hoon wants to take Seok Kyung to the hospital. But Seok Kyung screams at him that she’s fine. Though Seok Hoon says he and Su Ryeon were so worried about her, Seok Kyung asks why would they care when they’re not even blood related.
Seok Hoon says he will not let Dan Tae hurt her. Seok Kyung breaks down in her brother’s arms.
Over at J King Cheong A, Dan Tae and Seo Jin meet with Grandma Lee who promises to give them Cheonsoo development rights. Seo Jin says she wishes Logan survived so he could reveal the truth. She asks what the Lees will do to deal with Su Ryeon and Yoon Cheol.
Grandma Lee says Alex will take care of it and that he will not go lightly on them. Anyway, she adds that Dan Tae and Seo Jin will be handsomely rewarded for all they’ve done.
Later, Dan Tae, Seo Jin, Kyu Jin and Dong Pil celebrate their incoming wealth.
Meanwhile, Seok Hoon has Seo Kyung in a safe condo. He wants to call Su Ryeon so they can meet later, but Seo Kyung refuses. When Seok Hoon mentions how Su Ryeon has been in a dark place since Yoon Hee’s death, Seok Kyung snaps at him talking about anything Rona-related.
Seok Hoon says Seok Kyung of all people shouldn’t be talking poorly of Yoon Hee since her death is related to her. After explaining what happened, Seok Kyung realizes it was her who told Ms. Jin about Eun Byeol being at Rona’s and also distracting them while she was being kidnapped.
Elsewhere, Dong Pil drags Ma Ri into their condo and shows her the money he’s gotten as a bonus from Dan Tae. He wants the three of them with Jenny to run away to another country and start a new life. Ma Ri says she does not care about money when a person’s life was taken away.
Dong Pil continues spouting off things that Ma Ri even more angry. She dumps the bag of money on him and says the only thing she will accept is Dong Pil confessing to everything Dan Tae has done. Otherwise, she will ensure Dong Pil is put behind bars herself.
Over in a crazy white room, Su Ryeon and Logan confront a tied up Jun Ki who admits that he couldn’t resist Seo Jin’s offer. He says he is truly grateful Logan saved him from the looney bin. But he thought the money he could get from working with Seo Jin would make up for the injustice he’s lived with since his parents’ death.
Logan says Jun Ki is just as much of a scumbag as Dan Tae.
Jun Ki tries to bite Logan’s ear and Logan orders the Lee henchmen to take him away.
Over at the Jakomo store, Dan Tae tells Seok Hoon about this being the place his mother and sister were killed. And on this land, he will build a brand new iconic landmark to honor his mother. The tallest, brightest building in the world. And that building will belong to Seok Hoon.
Su Ryeon meets with Yoon Cheol to talk about finding Ms. Jin. He says he knows how to find her. But before he leaves, Su Ryeon asks why Yoon Cheol helped Logan. He answers that it’s what Yoon Hee would’ve done.
Back at Hera, Ma Ri stumbles upon Sang Ah moping about her miserable life being married to Kyu Jin. Ma Ri has an idea. She takes Ma Ri to a roller rink. Ma Ri calls Kyu Jin to make him jealous.
Ma Ri then spits soju at her so she can reek of alcohol.
Min Hyeok and Eun Byeol are with their fellow SNU friends to study. One of the friends mentions Eun Byeol failing the Cheong A Arts Center audition and how Bae Rona was pretty amazing based on comments online. Min Hyeok shows them Rona’s performance.
That suddenly triggers Eun Byeol’s memories of the night Yoon Hee died. Eun Hoo is a bit more compassionate to Eun Byeol’s outburst, but Min Hyeok thinks she’s just trying to change the subject.
When Eun Byeol is about to collapse, Ms. Jin arrives to catch her. They go somewhere private to talk. Eun Byeol asks Ms. Jin for more drugs and later that night heads to a sketchy area to get some.
Ms. Jin meets with her dealer to whom she gives thousands of dollars in exchange for a packet of drugs. Little does she know the dealer is Yoon Cheol who confronts her.
Ms. Jin says Eun Byeol begged for the drugs. Before she can run away, Yoon Cheol stabs her in the neck with an injection.
Ms. Jin wakes up to have Yoon Cheol and Su Ryeon confront her about what she’s done. Ms. Jin remains indignant about loving Eun Byeol and spits in Yoon Cheol’s face.
Logan joins the party and asks why she would betray him and side with a monster like Dan Tae. Logan understands that Ms. Jin wanted Eun Byeol to get over the loss of her own daughter Michelle. Ms. Jin blamed herself for Michelle’s death, but it was her drunk, abusive husband who left her outside.
Ms. Jin insists Eun Byeol is her daughter and begs Logan to let her see her. Su Ryeon says it depends on if Ms. Jin tells them everything that happened the day Yoon Hee died.
Ms. Jin spills everything and tells Logan where he can find the dashcam footage.
Later, Logan, Su Ryeon and Yoon Cheol watch the footage and see what Seo Jin did to Yoon Hee.
Su Ryeon vows to torture Dan Tae and Seo Jin for what they’ve done.
In the lobby, Rona runs to help a drunk Dong Pil when he trips on himself. But he yells at her to leave him alone. Rona says Jenny has been chosen as an artist in residence at Cheong A Arts and adds it would’ve been nice if Dong Pil attended the party.
Rona shows him video of Jenny’s performance and notes how Jenny has always said she takes after him. She says that Jenny misses him and always looks at their photo before bed. Rona offers to help Dong Pil reconcile with his family.
As Rona leaves, Dong Pil remembers his hand in Yoon Hee’s death and slaps himself. He heads home, sees the money from Dan Tae and decides to call Ma Ri. Dong Pil says he’ll do whatever she wants him to do and will accept any punishment that comes after.
Yoon Cheol follows Rona home and promises to be a father to her for the first time ever. He later asks Logan for a favor. He hands Logan his bank book for the account in which he’d been saving money for Rona. Logan says Yoon Cheol should do it himself. He knows Yoon Cheol is Rona’s father.
Yoon Cheol says he will spend the rest of his life avenging Yoon Hee’s death. Logan says they both want to pay Yoon Hee back for what they owe her.
Yoon Cheol asks Logan to stay by Rona’s side if anything ever happens to him.
After looking at photos of her and Su Ryeon together, Seok Kyung calls her and tells her that Seo Jin killed her father and Eun Byeol is a witness. “I hope you succeed in everything you’re trying to do,” Seok Kyung says before hanging up.
Next morning, Seo Jin is horrified as she notices Eun Byeol increasingly forgetting things and suddenly spouting random sentences (actually Yoon Hee’s cries for help the night she died).
Seo Jin blames Rona for this, but is sure everything will be okay.
It’s time for Seo Jin’s inauguration as director of Cheong A Foundation. Seo Jin promises a better educational experience under her watch.
Sang Ah asks Ma Ri why she wanted to attend this event. But Ma Ri says something fun is about to happen.
Over in Cheonsoo, the ribbon cutting for the J King Cheong A development is about to begin as well. Dan Tae, Kyu Jin and Dong Pil lead the ceremony. Dan Tae touts this incredible, high value development to a cheering crowd.
A reporter asks why Seo Jin isn’t here today. Dan Tae says it’s her inauguration ceremony, but she has sent a message. Secretary Jo plays the video which starts out with Seo Jin, but segues to video of the explosion that killed Logan, implicating Dan Tae. It finishes with Seo Jin saying “I hope you enjoyed what I prepared.”
Reporters hound Dan Tae for answers.
Back at the inauguration ceremony, Secretary Do delivers Dan Tae’s gift to Seo Jin. She heads on stage to open the present, supposedly a painting by Leonardo Da Vinci. But when she pulls the covers off, it is a portrait of her father with text implicating her in his death.
Seo Jin thinks Soo Kyung spilled the beans and begins to run out of the ballroom. But she bumps into a woman who crashes into a tower of glasses, triggering the memory of her watching her father roll down the stairs to his death.
Dan Tae and Seo Jin meet in an abandoned warehouse and they blame each other for their embarrassments today. They clash, complete with slaps and bites and hair pulling.
Su Ryeon and Logan arrive to watch the spectacle.
This was a pretty good episode I think. I most liked that this episode had less Seo Jin and Dan Tae and instead focused on the other characters for a change.
Of course, Seo Jin and Dan Tae were still the center of attention as everyone finally got on the same page with regards to how evil Seo Jin and Dan Tae are and that the need to be dealt with. I think that was part of what made the episode enjoyable as we’re all starving for some Seo Jin and Dan Tae comeuppance.
There’s still 5(!) episodes left, so naturally, Seo Jin and Dan Tae aren’t going to start burning in hell in Episode 10. But at the very least, the moments of embarrassment for them this episode were very satisfying. Relatively speaking.
First off, I’m half-excited, half-sad at how they dealt with Jun Ki and Ms. Jin.
Like with Ms. Jin, why only do her backstory now only with exposition? It’s the same with the reveal of Dan Tae’s mother and sister. All of this backstory would have actually gone a long way to adding a bit more needed depth to actually keep things shocking and interesting, especially with wacko characters like Ms. Jin. Ease into such revelations for maximum impact.
Show us, don’t just tell us.
When everything else started going sideways, even these small opportunities for engaging backstory and unexpected character depth would’ve been much welcome. The way they are just relying on simple exposition like this is more wasted potential.
Ms. Jin having been abused by her husband and losing her daughter would be a fascinating story to tell. Especially explaining why she is so obsessed with Eun Byeol.
I hope this wasn’t the last we’ve seen of either Ms. Jin or Jun Ki. If it is, then they were merely plot devices instead of actual characters and that would be disappointing. They both had enough material to truly be engaging characters on their own. But if they’re reduced to just plot devices, then it speaks a lot to the way Penthouse has developed.
This season especially feels like they had no long-term plan for the story and that they’ve come up with things on the fly just to capitalize on the blockbuster ratings and buzz. It’s unfortunate, but what can we do now. We just have to hope for a strong finish.
Anyway, elsewhere in the episode I very much loved Ma Ri’s scene with Dong Pil. Though I would’ve liked to have seen Dong Pil suffer a bit more, I’m just happy Ma Ri stood her ground the whole time. I guess Rona’s kindness to him really woke him up which is fine.
Also happy to see Sang Ah not crawl back to Kyu Jin as well. On the list after Seo Jin and Dan Tae, Kyu Jin needs to get what’s coming to him as well.
Nice to see Yoon Hee possessing Eun Byeol. I’m kidding of course (though you never know! Lol). But I think they’re playing that out well so far. It’s funny how I feel like they want so much to do a drug addiction storyline, but since it’s network television, will just play it off this way. lol
I wish they had a bit more dramatic reunion between Seok Hoon and Seok Kyung. As well as Seok Kyung and Su Ryeon as well. It was a bit underwhelming to see that storyline get wrapped up, pretty much. Seok Kyung understands her role in this madness. And after giving Su Ryeon the critical information she needs, it seems like Seok Kyung’s role in the greater arc is done. All that’s left for her is to share an in-person reunion with her mother. Which I will assume won’t happen without Dan Tae kidnapping her and putting her in danger first.
We didn’t get as much Lee Family stuff as I expected. But the episode still didn’t feel lacking in that aspect. They did just enough to not make Logan’s resurrection too bonkers.
In these final five episodes, I’m just looking forward to seeing how Yoon Hee gets resurrected. It really has to be huge. And I supposed it will be one of the few remaining explosive moments to happen in this final stretch.
Overall, one of the stronger, more enjoyable episodes so far this season.
