Leg 16.09B – “You are not going to throw me in the water again!”
The SuperLeg continues as teams must now make their way to the iconic Tower Bridge to search for their next clue.
That clue tells teams “The dolphin is close by.” Teams must figure out that refers to the Girl with a Dolphin Fountain which is by the Tower Bridge. And here, teams will find the Road Block: Who’s not afraid of a shard of glass?
Teams must make their way on foot to The Shard. And for this Road Block, teams will rappel from the 87th floor of the tallest building in the United Kingdom and all of the European Union! While making their way down, they will come across two windows which will have math problems related to events or aspects of the Race so far. Teams must solve the two math problems before continuing down. The team who solves both problems in the shortest amount of time will win P50,000 courtesy of Rexona, the official protector of The Amazing Race Philippines!
Teams must now choose a brand new 2019 Kia Niro and drive themselves overnight to Bath, England!
Teams must make their way to Brunel’s SS Great Britain. But HOURS OF OPERATION! The ship opens at 8am.
But while teams wait to hop onboard the historic ship, they spot the Double Yield Board! Which they won’t be able to access until the ship opens!
When the ship opens, all teams must check in at the Yield board before grabbing the next clue.
That clue directs teams to the Pulteney Bridge.
Here, teams must walk to the Parade Gardens where they will take a canoe and row down the river toward the self-service Bath Bottom Lock.
Teams must manually open the lock and make their way through to continue rowing until they find the cluebox along the banks of the river.
That clue tells teams to make their way on foot back to their brand new 2019 Kia Niro and drive themselves to Berkeley Castle.
And the clue here will reveal the Road Block: Who’s got a good eye for tea time?
For this Road Block, teams must set-up a complete cream tea by setting a table based only on memory using an example. When approved by the table’s patrons, they will receive the next clue.
This is also the Rewind spot for the last place team at the midpoint of this SuperLeg. They must repeat the Road Block in order to receive the next clue.
That clue points teams to Bath Abbey.
Teams must then make their way to the Roman Baths.
Here, teams must drink bath water in the pump room to receive their next clue.
And that clue reveals the Detour: Roman Relaxation or English Etiquette.
In Roman Relaxation, teams must pick up ancient Roman costumes, dress up and make their way to the Thermae Bath Spa. While dressed up, teams will need to receive five different modern spa treatments to receive their next clue.
In English Etiquette, teams must pick up period English costumes and make their way on foot to the Jane Austen Centre. Here, each team member must memorize several lines written by famous author Jane Austen. They will then search amongst the people enjoying a garden party for “Jane Austen” to whom they must recite their memorized lines correctly in order to receive the next clue.
And that final clue of this SuperLeg points teams to the Royal Crescent, the Pit Stop for this Leg of the Race.
The first team to check in here will win P200,000 courtesy of Shell V-Power Nitro+.
The last team to check in here WILL be eliminated!

“Director’s” Commentary
The SuperLeg continues with another full, well, Leg. lol
Certainly there is enough for a Leg on its own here. But TARPHDME is known for its SuperLegs so this was a good place to put one.
First, to lessen the overnight downtime, we have teams spending a little more time in London. And after dark, London should be even more stunning with 4K UHD drone shots. (Or just regular 4K UHD shots since I think drones are banned in London?)
Anyway, the rappelling down The Shard is a great nighttime task with the building all lit up for the night. But to make it more interesting and not just another boring, processional task, we add the extra task of memory and math with an incentive of money! It should provide enough excitement for the beginning of this episode.
After the overnight drive, the next highlight of the episode should be the tension of teams waiting outside before the ship opens all while seeing the Double Yield board inside. Our goal here is to have teams all tense and scheming about who to Yield and then the rush inside to get to the Yield first. It should be very fun and dramatic!
Next up, I decided I needed an extra task to fill out this Leg/episode. So I saw that Bath has these locks. It reminds me of Keeping Up Appearances and Hyancinth being amazed by locks on the river while in a canoe. So I thought it would be fun for teams to figure that stuff out here. Though I’m not sure how logistically possible it might be for teams to be waiting in line at a lock. It might harm the Leg itself. But we’ll have to test it out first.
Then we have the Road Block. Simple tea time, memorization task. And a good spot for the Rewind on this SuperLeg.
You can’t be in Bath and not have a drink of the bathwater!
And finally the Detour which is pretty straightforward. The catch is the modern spa treatments should take a very long time. Hopefully about the same time as a reasonable amount of time for a team to finish the memorization and recitation of the Jane Austen side of the Detour.
Having all of this final section of the Leg require teams to run around on foot should also help make this an exciting ending!
Overall, a full Leg on its own and a great second half of the SuperLeg!
