Thursday Tunes, January 11, 2024 – OnlyOneOf, 2Z, B1A4, SF9

It’s taking me a while to catch up with all the new music so far this year! But let’s get started with some new music from four of my favorites! Featuring OnlyOneOf, 2Z, B1A4 and SF9

“dOpamine” by OnlyOneOf

I don’t know why it feels like such a long time since their last release. Actually, it might be a year since. So it’s great to have OnlyOneOf back with some fresh music. Title track “dOpamine” is an electronic drum and bass track about the excitement of falling in love. My favorite part of the track is the pre-chorus, but it is an overall mix of energy and vibes. All with a sound and style that will immediately make you think of OnlyOneOf.

The other tracks of Things I Can’t Say Love complement “dOpamine” perfectly. “give me the lOve, bitch”, “O (circle)” and Nine’s self-composed song “gravity” help to set the mood for an intimate evening. Or maybe a nice night drive as well.

“Hope” by 2Z

Another talented artist I am excited to see with fresh music is band 2Z. I always love every release from them. And that’s definitely the case again with their album Do Not Disturb. The title track “When I See You (Hope)” is a wonderful synth-infused casual rock track. A lot of my favorite tracks from 2Z are their emotional and hopeful songs. And all four tracks on this album are definitely that. “Time Machine”, “Sad Denial” and “Anymore” are all tracks, along with “Hope”, that I know I will be playing on repeat all year.

“Rewind” by B1A4

B1A4’s Rewind is a pleasant surprise! The title track from their latest album Connect is a groovy synth-infused song about wanting to turn back time to meet someone in their dreams once again. It is an addictive and dynamic track that maybe I did not expect from the trio. Though their sound has definitely grown and matured over the years. The other four tracks on the album are equally great with my favorites being “Back to You” and “When You Call My Name”.

“BIBORA” by SF9

It wasn’t until I started watching the MV for SF9’s title track “BIBORA” that I realized this was the first comeback since Inseong was discharged from the military! And so even if I was looking forward to seeing and hearing SF9’s latest release, I was even more excited seeing my bias and hearing his vocals once again! “BIBORA” is a funky deep house-based track and its dynamic melody goes a long way to perfectly evoke the conflicted emotions of the song’s lyrics. Sequence is another great album from the group. But my favorite tracks from the album are “Midnight Sun” and “Strings”.
