Su Ryeon meets with Vice Minister Yoon from the Ministry of Education. Ma Ri as “baby madam” Jessica comes in with fruits and drink to try and get Vice Minister Yoon comfortable. The two ladies show live video of Minister Kang being offered and accepting the bribe of money and women from Dan Tae and friends.
Su Ryeon offers to help bring Minister Kang down without Vice Minister Yoon getting any blood on her hands. All she has to do is prevent the move of the schools to Cheonsoo District.
Su Ryeon and Ma Ri work together to try and intercept any potential partners Dan Tae and Co. may have already gotten to by blackmailing them out of working with Cheong A.
Meanwhile, a frustrated Yoon Cheol lashes out at the shadowy figure he does not know is Seo Jin. She warns him that if he does not do what he can to keep Logan alive, “[his] daughter” will be in danger. And especially when Seo Jin got him out of prison, she says Yoon Cheol should lick the soles of her feet.
Yoon Cheol screams and believes the shadowy figure is Dan Tae. Yoon Cheol is about to inject Logan with outside medicine, but stops himself and storms out.
Seo Jin is fine with Yoon Cheol believing she is Dan Tae.
Over at Cheong A J King, Dan Tae, Kyu Jin and Dong Pil are discussing Dohae Construction and the mysterious lobbyist that’s been propping it up. Kyu Jin talks about the lobbyist’s female bodyguard and he believes it is Ma Ri.
Dong Pil confronts Ma Ri who tells him to mind his own business. Dong Pil says Dan Tae will leave them alone as long as they toe the line. But Ma Ri won’t do any such thing any longer. She refuses to fear Dan Tae ever again.
Ma Ri can’t believe Dong Pil has become this way and says the thought of him dumping poor Yoon Hee’s body in the lake is sickening.
Ma Ri warns Dong Pil to stay away from her and Jenny if he will continue on being Dan Tae’s dog.
Over at the penthouse, after initially rejecting them, Seok Hoon answers Seok Kyung’s call. She tells him that she’s leaving to study abroad in Italy today and asks him to tell Su Ryeon for her.
“What is wrong with you?!”
Seok Hoon can’t believe Seok Kyung would decide something like this on her own and says Su Ryeon has been worrying about her every day. She asks to meet her at the airport. But Seok Hoon refuses and says he can pretend he doesn’t have a sister if she continues to act this way.
Seok Hoon tells Su Ryeon about it and comforts her into saying Seok Kyung will be alright.
Seok Hoon offers to help Su Ryeon in finding the truth about Yoon Hee’s death, especially to help Rona who is still struggling.
Su Ryeon says it’s time for Seok Hoon to end his relationship with Rona because Dan Tae is responsible for Yoon Hee’s death. She believes they will both be hurt once Rona finds out this truth and that Rona would never forgive him, even though it’s not his fault.
Seok Hoon tells her to stop it and admits that as being the son of a demon, he is exactly the same and doesn’t deserve to love Rona.
“I’m the son of an asshole.”
Seok Hoon storms out of the penthouse. Before Su Ryeon can chase after him, Yoon Cheol calls and asks to meet with her.
Yoon Cheol waits for Su Ryeon at Jakomo, but Seo Jin sends him a pic of Eun Byeol and calls to threaten him into not telling Su Ryeon anything.
Su Ryeon arrives at Jakomo with Yoon Cheol gone. But Dan Tae arrives and commands her to vacate the premises so he can demolish it. She asks why he is so fixated on this plot of land and he tells her to ask her dead father.
Jenny finds Rona in the library and suggests she just give up with auditions and ignore the negative comments. But Rona says she won’t and will use her mother’s death as motivation.
Jenny, wanting to lift Rona’s spirits, takes her to eat some chicken and tteokbokki with Min Hyuk. Talking about Rona’s application being rejected for the Cheong A Arts audition, Min Hyuk says everyone knows it’s just a ruse for Seo Jin to support Eun Byeol. Jenny says everyone at SNU should boycott the Cheong A Audition.
Seo Jin tells Eun Byeol about Clark Lee from the Vienna Philharmonic coming to Seoul and tells her to prepare an audition for him so she can become an international prima donna. Eun Byeol is excited and Seo Jin is happy Eun Byeol was able to pick herself back up.
Back home, Dan Tae asks Seo Jin for 50 million dollars in order to bribe Cheonsoo District association officers to close the deal. In exchange, Seo Jin wants ten percent of Cheong A stock. Dan Tae reluctantly agrees.
Speaking to the officers, Dan Tae and Co. promise 200% compensation in the event that this deal falls through for any reason. The 100 million won cashier’s check seals the deal.
On the day of Clark Lee’s press conference to announce the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra will be the first to perform at the shiny new Cheong A Arts Center, Seo Jin plans for Eun Byeol to spontaneously start singing at the end of it. But when someone does begin to sing, Seo Jin realizes it is not her daughter.
Clark Lee finds Rona in the waiting room preparing the refreshments and is completely mesmerized by her voice. He asks Seo Jin if Rona is a resident performer here. But Rona quickly explains that she was even denied an audition.
Clark Lee says a talented gem like this should not go overlooked. The press goes crazy when they realize she is the daughter of the dead murderer. Rona asks Seo Jin if she will grant her an audition and Seo Jin has no choice but to allow it.
Turns out, Rona surprised Eun Byeol in the waiting room and began singing before Eun Byeol even got the chance.
Seo Jin confronts Rona and says she must have learned this dirty trick from her dead mother. But Rona says Seo Jin shouldn’t talk when it was Yoon Hee who made it possible for Seo Jin to successfully complete her 20th anniversary concert.
Seo Jin says Rona has become so brazen. But Rona says she has to in order to beat her. Her being able to perform in front of a world-renowned conductor is all thanks to Seo Jin.
Seo Jin tries to slap Rona, but Rona twists her arm and says the truth will reveal itself soon enough. Rona says she is no longer a kid and Seo Jin mustn’t act so confident anymore.
Seo Jin checks up on Eun Byeol who puts on a happy face and says she can just beat Rona at the audition. But once her mother leaves, Eun Byeol calls Ms. Jin and asks to meet her.
Meanwhile, Su Ryeon has dinner with Clark Lee as it turns out it was she who invited him to Korea. He tells her about an amazing talent he stumbled upon today and Su Ryeon thinks she knows who it is. In fact, she has a favor to ask for her.
Back at Hera, Rona sees Ms. Jin at the elevators and confronts her, asking what she knows about her mother’s death. Ms. Jin refuses to talk to her and warns her against doing anything to harm Eun Byeol. She will put her life on the line just to protect Eun Byeol.
Rona grabs Ms. Jin and she drops her purse, scattering pills all over the floor. Ms. Jin is able to break free and heads upstairs after picking the pills up. But Rona is able to get one of the few left on the floor.
Eun Byeol is annoyed that Ms. Jin brought so little pills as she needs them to get over the headaches and nausea she repeatedly feels. She won’t be able to get through the audition without them. She demands Ms. Jin bring more.
Before Eun Byeol leaves, Ms. Jin stops her and says she wants them to live together again. Without Eun Byeol, Ms. Jin says she can’t eat or sleep and life isn’t fun anymore. The only person who loves Eun Byeol unconditionally is her.
Eun Byeol momentarily collapses and when she comes to, she has forgotten that Ms. Jin has already given her the drugs. Eun Byeol screams at Ms. Jin for not being on time with the pills. Eun Byeol stuffs even more pills into her mouth as she storms off.
After rejecting her calls, Ms. Jin stops Dan Tae’s car in the garage, wanting to ask for more money. He says he already gave her enough, but she threatens to tell Su Ryeon and the cops that he is responsible for Yoon Hee’s death. And that’s regardless of whether or not he really did kill her.
“You act like a total psycho!”
Ms. Jin does not back down from Dan Tae’s threats and tells him to get his dirty hands off her. She says she will never see him as a man, even if it kills her.
“So if you are interested in me, wake up and smell the coffee!”
Little do they know, Seok Hoon has heard all of this and he is absolutely beside himself. He doesn’t know how he could ever face Rona again. “I have to die, don’t I?” Seok Hoon believes he has to atone for the sin of being born Dan Tae’s son.
Elsewhere, Jun Ki is surprised Logan’s parents and grandmother have arrived from America hoping for any positive news on their loved one’s whereabouts. Logan’s grandmother says they will spend their entire fortune if it means they can find him alive. They give Jun Ki even more money in order to make that happen.
Jun Ki visits Seo Jin at the spa to tell her what’s happened. She says to leave Logan’s well-being to her and to just ensure that they get James Lee’s moneys to split.
Su Ryeon heads to the police station to hand over the video evidence of Minister Kang’s debauchery with Dan Tae and Friends. The breaking news rocks the Cheong A boys. But that’s not all. Dohae Construction has won the development bid. Dan Tae’s plans have gone up in smoke. Everyone who they made a deal with is demanding their moneys back and they storm the office to take everything they can.
Cheong A shares are taking a nosedive and Seo Jin lays into Dan Tae for being so careless as to let this happen.
Dan Tae goes to Chairman Song to beg for money and she obliges in exchange for ownership of the penthouse. But what he doesn’t know is Su Ryeon has been listening in the room all this time and working with Chairman Song for help.
Dan Tae goes to meet with the lobbyist of Dohae Construction and is shocked to learn it is Su Ryeon. Dan Tae tries to threaten her and they fight around the room.
When Dan Tae is again affected by seeing blood, Su Ryeon kicks him to sleep. While unconscious, Dan Tae remembers his childhood and his family’s home getting demolished. He had awakened in the middle of the night as bulldozers arrived. But when he gets knocked out, the bulldozer smashes through the house with his mother and sister still inside.
With her dying breaths, little Jun Ki’s mother tells him to live and become a rich man.
And it is where his old home once stood that Jakomo stands now.
Dan Tae wakes up in front Jakomo, tied up and with a blindfold. Su Ryeon plays with him by scaring him in the parking lot with her car. She demands he confess to Yoon Hee’s murder or he dies right here, right now. Dan Tae refuses and she repeatedly grazes him with her car.
Suddenly, Seok Hoon arrives on his motorbike to pick his father up and take him to the riverside.
Seok Hoon asks what Dan Tae could’ve done to make Su Ryeon so upset. “You can’t deny your own blood, can’t you?” Seok Hoon says he didn’t save Dan Tae’s life, but he wanted to protect Su Ryeon by not letting her kill him.
Dan Tae tries to insist that Su Ryeon has zero love for Seok Hoon.
Seok Hoon offers to follow Dan Tae’s plans as long as Su Ryeon is safe. Dan Tae makes the promise.
At the penthouse, Rona gives Su Ryeon the pill she picked up and also tells her about auditioning for Cheong A.
Seok Hoon walks in and ignores Rona. He tells Su Ryeon that he will be taking time off of school for work. Su Ryeon tells Rona about Seok Hoon wanting to work for Dan Tae’s family.
Rona does not understand. She goes after Seok Hoon to ask why he’s doing this. She says he should stay by his mother’s side. Seok Hoon says it’s time he grows up and that he was foolish for thinking he could help Rona or his mother. He admits he is the same as Dan Tae.
Seok Hoon says they should breakup now and that he will no longer acknowledge her. It is for the best that they pretend they never met. Rona says she understands. But she reminds him that who their parents are is not their fault. So Seok Hoon can put down any burdens he might have.
Seok Hoon does a poor job of hiding his emotions and apologizes to Rona in his head. Seok Hoon gets in the glass elevator as Rona fights back tears.
Rona and Su Ryeon head to the police station when Yoon Hee’s watch is found at the cliffs. Su Ryeon takes it to a repair shop where it is fixed, thankfully restoring the data too.
Su Ryeon listens to the recording. As Yoon Hee was fighting the car, she recorded a message for her revealing that her daughter Seok Kyung is alive and well.
Su Ryeon is shocked.
Seok Kyung, meanwhile, wakes up in a room full of aggressive women. This is definitely not Italy. Seok Kyung thinks she can handle them, but they proceed to beat her up.
Meanwhile, Yoon Cheol continues work on Logan. But believing no one is watching, Yoon Cheol injects an outside medicine to force Logan to wake up.
Logan opens his eyes wide and grabs Yoon Cheol, asking him to bring Su Ryeon to him. Seo Jin arrives and is shocked to see he has awakened.
Why are these episodes so long?! Penthouse, you’re not a tvN drama, you know? You can’t have 90 minute episodes! lol
Anyway, this episode was a little underwhelming. Especially the cliffhanger, if you can call it that. It wasn’t all that surprising or exciting. And we didn’t learn many new things in this episode.
This episode was more about little moments which can be fun. But no big developments or shockers. This is the second half of the final season now, but it was a bit of a dud of an episode.
Some great moments. I loved seeing the scene of Ma Ri and Dong Pil on the rooftop. I was fearing Ma Ri wasn’t 100% sincere in helping Su Ryeon. But thankfully, that scene confirmed she was and I love it. Character growth!
Rona crashing Eun Byeol’s big moment and the later confrontation with Seo Jin was also amazing. It’s fun to see Rona embracing being mini Yoon Hee. And it’s about time too. That scene between Rona and Seo Jin was very good.
The best parts of the episode were really the confrontations. As Ms. Jin and Dan Tae’s encounter in the garage was lots of fun. It was a funny, yet exciting scene. There’s definitely lots of people who can bring about Dan Tae’s downfall.
Eun Byeol being a drug addict is definitely not what I saw coming. And again, Seok Kyug deserves what’s coming to her.
But now to the not so good things.
Su Ryeon guilting Seok Hoon into breaking it off with Rona is such nonsense. I wouldn’t be surprised if they do another Gotcha! with this story. But just taking it by what we saw in the episode, it was horrible.
This is one of the soapiest things Penthouse has done. Basically, separating a main couple just to drag the story out longer. It’s typical in the Philippines. And here, it feels so forced and contrived. The sentiment came out of nowhere. What the hell was she talking about?
And then Seok Hoon actually agreeing. It was funny at the end how he was trying to act like an asshole to Rona, but she still empathized with him. I don’t know if this is the typical “infiltrate the enemy” type of story because Su Ryeon was making faces whenever Seok Hoon popped up. But now it feels so forced.
Meanwhile, this is exactly what I was afraid of. Dan Tae having a tragic childhood as his mother and sister were murdered by the demolishing crew. I assume that it was Su Ryeon’s father that ordered that clearing operation.
But still, this doesn’t justify all the things Dan Tae has done in his life. Your redemption story is not going to work on me!
Overall, a predictable and flat episode.
