Leg 18.10B – “I’m tired of this sheep!”
At Victory Monument in Bishkek, the SuperLeg continues, as teams must now make their way to the Western Bus Station. From here, all teams will board on the same long-distance mashrutka (minibus) from Bishkek to Almaty, Kazakhstan!
Teams will cross the border into Kazakhstan overnight, arriving in Almaty at 6am.
Upon arrival, teams must make their way to Al-Farabi Kazakh National University to search for their next clue.
That clue tells teams that they must learn a Kazakh tongue twister. Both team members must be able to recite it to receive their next clue. That clue will include a Samsung Galaxy S10 5G that they will need later in this Leg.
Teams must now fix up an old Soviet car.
They will then drive the car to this gas station to receive their next clue.
That clue tells teams to exchange that old Soviet Era car for a brand new 2019 Kia Sorento.
They will drive that brand new 2019 Kia Sorento to Charyn Canyon and these yurts.
Using the bundle of skin and felt they collected in Bishkek, teams must correctly cover a yurt to receive the next clue.
This is also the Rewind point for the last place team at the SuperLeg midpoint. That team must cover a 2nd yurt in order to continue Racing.
After covering the yurt, teams will encounter the Road Block: Who’s a good eye? For this Road Block, teams must recreate the inside of the yurt according to photos on their Samsung Galaxy S10 5Gs. Once they have correctly decorated the yurt, they will receive their next clue.
Teams must now drive themselves to Kolsai Lake.
Here, teams will choose mountain bikes and follow a course using only photos found on their Samsung Galaxy S10 5Gs. Each photo represents a checkpoint and at each checkpoint are pairs of letters which they will take note of on their Samsung Galaxy S10 5Gs until further notice. At the last checkpoint, teams will receive the next clue.
Teams must now drive themselves to this farm.
Here, teams must herd a specific number of sheep into distinct marked areas which are numbered. Once they have brought the sheep into their new enclosures, they will receive the next clue.
That clue tells teams to unscramble the letters they collected at Kolsai Lake into three words which reveal the location of the Pit Stop:
Big Almaty Lake.
The first team to check in here will win P200,000 courtesy of Shell V-Power Nitro+.
The last team to check in here WILL be eliminated.
The Super Leg continues! And for this half, we visit beautiful Kazakhstan. This Leg was really all inspired by the debut music videos of Korean group IN2IT which they filmed in Kazakhstan.
Here is the trailer for their debut using one of their songs “Paradise”:
(The song used in this week’s TARPHDME promo hehe)
And their title track “Amazing,” which is definitely amazing.
Such beautiful shots and I definitely wanted to see a Leg in rural and mountain-type Kazakhstan away from the city and the typical ski resorts that’ve been the usual Kazakhstan Legs in the past.
So I pulled this Leg out of the TARPHDME bank to pair with the first ever visit to Kyrgyzstan. Having teams on the overnight bus should be fine. Though it would be nice for teams to enjoy the ride in the daytime to see the beautiful scenery as they drive by.
Anyway, our first task is one that helps fill this Leg out. Definitely not from the IN2IT MVs, but from some random YouTube video which I can’t find anymore. It was about some Kazakh tongue twister that sounded very difficult. So I decided to just plop this task on here to fill out the Leg. Teams could also just learn Kazakh in general and have a conversation or something.
Also a good spot for teams to collect their Samsung Galaxy S10 5Gs for the different tasks this Leg. Again, any way we can incorporate product placement in a seamless way, it helps to keep the sponsors happy which in turns gives us more money to stage good tasks and Legs.
Next up is the old Soviet car which IN2IT drives in their MV. Reminds me of TAR6 with the trabbants in Hungary, I believe. Should be fun. First, teams will have to fix it up with various tasks like cleaning, repairing a bulb or something like that. Then they can drive it off.
Oh! Some locations on this Leg are random since I don’t know the exact locations of some of the places in IN2IT’s MVs. Hehe
Anyway, the driving this Leg should be a challenge on its own of course. But the Soviet car is only for the first part since we will make another sponsor happy by having teams swap out for a nice, new Kia instead.
Afterwards, teams head to the stunning Charyn Canyon. Of course this yurt task connects to the Kyrgyzstan half of the Leg by using the felt and skin they’re supposed to have kept with them all this time. As always, a penalty for any team that’s lost their items.
The Road Block is a straightforward task that makes use of the beautiful location and also as part of the Samsung product placement.
I think there can be better things to do here in the Charyn Canyon, especially with how large the area is.
Next, we have teams on mountain bikes at the beautiful Kolsai Lake. I wasn’t sure what to have teams do here, but as another Samsung task, it’s a unique way for teams to find their way. That is, using just photos on their phone to find the checkpoints. No signs. No maps.
Then, sheep herding or any animal herding, really, is always fun. And IN2IT played around with sheep in their MV so this is a nice task that could provide lots of funny.
Finally, we have teams unscramble the letters for the Pit Stop at the beautiful Big Almaty Lake. Hopefully close to sunset like in IN2IT’s MVs. And the unscrambling can be a nice last challenge for the Leg.
Overall, I think this can be a really great Leg with good opportunity for competition. The stunning sights are a huge plus as well.
