Recap: The Amazing Race Canada 7, Episode 10 – “He’s Basically a Hound”
Teams will fly to Halifax, Nova Scotia via Toronto. Upon arrival in Halifax, teams will hop into an all-new 2019 Chevy Silverado High Country and drive themselves to the Tangled Garden in Grand Pre.
And here is the Road Block: Who’s ready for a sticky situation? For this Road Block, teams must search the garden for seven herbs and then identify the seven jellies made from them.
Dave, Lauren, Sarah and Anthony decide to do the Road Block.
Anthony gets the thumbs up first and the other teams tell him to cover his answers so Dave can’t copy them again. Dave gets it anyway right after. Lauren is next. Sarah is growing scared about not being able to get it.
After the Road Block, teams must drive and search for the Puck n’ Apples stand for their next clue which is the Detour: Puck or Apples. In Puck, teams must make their way to Acadia University where they will must learn a sledge hockey drill and then perform it under one minute. In Apples, teams will head to Noggins Corner Farm Market and sort 12 different apples.
Anthony & James choose the hockey while Dave & Irina and Lauren & Joanne choose apples.
Back at the Road Block, an emotional Sarah finally gets the thumbs up and she and Sam are off. They choose the hockey.
Anthony & James have just failed their 10th attempt and they are growing frustrated. But on their 11th attempt, they score the goal and can drive themselves to Taproot Farms.
At Taproot Farms, teams will use their Chevy Silverado’s rearview camera to read five stanzas of “Farewell to Nova Scotia.” When all the lyrics have been transcribed and placed in the correct order, teams will then hitch their truck to a trailer filled with cases of beer and deliver them to the Church Brewing Co. Once here, teams will perform the song for the locals.
Sarah & Sam score their goal on their 13th attempt and head over to the backing up.
Over at the apples, Lauren & Joanne are able to sort their apples, leaving Dave & Irina in last.
Meanwhile, Anthony & James have delivered their load and sung their song. They are given a photo of Jon and an iconic phonebox at the Luckett Vineyards, the Pit Stop for this Leg of the Race.
Anthony & James step on the Mat as Team #1 and win a trip to Singapore. Sarah & Sam are Team #2.
It’s down to Lauren & Joanne and Dave & Irina. After some faux Race to the Mat drama, it is Lauren & Joanne who claim the last spot in the finale.
That means Dave & Irina are last and eliminated.
Episode Thoughts
So I am sure much of Canada is celebrating Dave & Irina’s elimination tonight. Strangely enough, it was a pretty boring way for them to go out. Lol
The Leg was very barebones, especially for a Penultimate Leg. This definitely would’ve made a good early Leg with more teams Racing it. But it just felt a little bland for the Penultimate Leg.
So the fact that Dave & Irina were done in by apples is kinda funny. I’ve seen many comments wishing for their elimination every week, but a lot also hoping for the most brutal elimination ever. That certainly didn’t happen. And Dave & Irina were pretty great sports about it. There’s definitely been far more bitter and nasty teams on The Amazing Race Canada before.
But before we make this Episode Thoughts all about Dave & Irina, let’s look at the Leg itself.
Like I said, it was alright. But very underwhelming for a Penultimate Leg. TARC certainly loves their taste/smell and identify tasks, don’t they? TARC has had teams taste and identify fish, flowers, smoothies, beer, all sorts of things. It’s definitely a TAR staple.
The Detour was very interesting. The hockey was honestly the easier Detour of course. It didn’t seem all that difficult to really get the hang of it. And since each attempt took one minute, it’s not like they would have to wait a long time to try again if they failed. Seemed to just involve being able to stay upright since they weren’t playing against another team or experienced players.
The apples could definitely take more time. It seems like they had a dozen apples for each of the 12 types. So that’s a lot to sort and could certainly grow frustrating and tedious after a while.
After the Detour, the rest of the Leg was pretty linear and already decided. The Chevy-sponsored task was alright. And the “performing” just a simple extra thing for teams to do. But there wasn’t much challenge to any part of these final tasks. So the Leg was decided well before the last couple of minutes of the Leg.
Overall, a pretty underwhelming Penultimate Leg.
My Subjective Team Rankings
So I already knew Dave & Irina were out 4th, having followed the spoilers. After their quitting debacle, I was kind of happy they wouldn’t make it to the finale. But since then, they’ve fully delivered as an entertaining and fun team that actually can Race very well when not quitting. They definitely deserved to be in the finale. But thanks to the apples, they’re not. They’re absolutely All-Star material though, if TARC ever does have one. And it was great to see them in high spirits at the Mat. Their dancing and singing as they left the Mat was awesome.
I’ve realized Sarah & Sam have had their Word of the Days all season. So I am hoping that means they win somehow. Like, their Word of the Day next week will be “Winner” or “Champion” or something. Lol. I’m definitely rooting for them the most.
Lauren & Joanne are definitely the underdog going into the finale. Not the strongest Racers, but they outlasted the rest and earned their spot. They have a good chance to win it all, but I think it’ll depend on the finale’s Leg design a lot.
Anthony & James have been a mostly consistent team this season with some very obvious moments of struggle. But they’ve definitely always been contenders and have a very strong shot to take the win.
I do think it’s anyone’s Race now, especially without Dave & Irina.
