I was a Filipino-American kid who was a freshman in high school on September 5, 2001. I loved watching television. My parents would probably say I loved watching too much television. Though (humble brag), I still did pretty well in school despite my TV habits. Having watched both Survivor and Big Brother the year before on CBS, this third new reality show called The Amazing Race seemed very interesting to me.
Phil says Joe & Bill, who were continents away, closed the gap with leaders Frank & Margarita and Rob & Brennan and are only a few tasks behind. Joe & Bill are hopeful those two teams make fatal errors to open up the chance for them to take the win.
Phil says this Penultimate Leg is all about positioning for the Race to the Finish Line. And Rob & Brennan and Frank & Margarita are almost a full day ahead of Joe & Bill.
Phil says this 11th Leg of the Race will be the last to have an elimination. And it will decide which teams will get a chance to reach the Finish Line.
Rob & Brennan begin the 10th Leg of the Race at 10:12am and open the first clue telling teams to meet “the King” at Raile Beach. Teams must figure out that refers to “King Climbers” rock climbing school.
Kevin & Drew begin the 9th Leg of the Race at 4:50pm by opening the clue telling teams to fly to Bangkok, Thailand. But teams also get the Fast Forward clue. The only teams still eligible are last place teams Nancy & Emily and Joe & Bill.
Frank & Margarita begin the 8th Leg first at 8:01pm, almost eleven hours before the others. But that lead won’t be as big in the morning as their next clue can be found somewhere on the grounds of the iconic Taj Mahal. And the landmark opens at 6am tomorrow. Plus! Teams will receive zero money for this Leg.
Phil informs us that during the mandatory 12-hour rest period where teams can eat, sleep and mingle with the other teams, the “controversy” over Team Guido’s behavior remains on everyone’s minds. During dinner, Joe & Bill eat separately from everyone else.
Phil adds that “the competition has gotten ugly” and by the end of this Leg, only five teams will remain.
The six remaining teams begin the 6th Leg of the Race by being evacuated to the nearby town of Gabes to avoid an impending sandstorm in the Sahara. The mandatory 12-hour Pit Stop was thereby extended, though teams would still depart in the order they arrived at the end of the last Leg.
Joe & Bill start the 5th Leg of the Race at 4:02am by opening a clue containing a photo of a monument and the word “Tataouine.” What teams must figure out is Tataouine is a city in southern Tunisia, 300 miles away.
