Dr. Smith tells Dr. Mary Ann that the kids should know the truth about their father. But Dr. Mary Ann wants to protect them and fears if they knew the truth, they might hop on a spaceship too and head to Boazan to search for Papa Armstrong. Dr. Smith says it is up to her, but he believe secrets and lies can hurt relationships. And they always have a way of coming out.
As they leave, Little Jon secretly teleports into the hanger using one of his inventions and gets a look at the big robo for the first time.
Zardoz is being briefed about what this planet Earth is all about. General Zandra thinks the beings on Earth look gross and slave-like. Zambojil is not surprised why Hrothgar would choose that place as his hideout.
Dr. Smith introduces the five ships that make up Voltes V: Crewzer. Bomber, Panzer, Frigate and Lander. Each Volt Machine will be piloted by one of the cadets. But only five of them will get the responsibility. The rest of the initiative-taking cadets can work for the support team or potentially be an alternate pilot.
Back on Boazan, Zardoz is excited to show Uncle Zambojil and Lola Contessa the medal he received from school for his top ranked intelligence. Zambojil says he definitely did not make a mistake in taking him in and says he’s proud of him. Zardoz thanks his uncle with a hug. Much to Zambojil’s disgust, actually.
Back on Boazan, Rozalia has given birth, but she feels sorry to her son having to grow up without a father. Mama Fadsa believes Hrothgar is still alive and will return to save them. She hugs the baby tight and asks Rozalia what she will name him.
Hrothgar and the other slaves reach the spaceship hangars, but are met by Boazanian soldiers. They fight their way through with Hrothgar getting into one ship while Magus and other remaining slaves hop into another one. They take off, but fighter ships pursue them over the capital city.
Our humble narrator takes us back 20 years to the planet of Boazan. Baron Zander violently questions one of the horn-less alipin, accusing one of them of being a thief. Science Minister Hrothgar orders Baron Zander to stop and warns him that if he wishes to remain in his position, he and his soldiers must stop their cruel treatment of the slaves.
I didn’t expect to get emotional. But as the end (opening?) credits rolled on the first episode of Voltes V: Legacy, I did. And this is me not having watched a single episode of the original series. If I felt this excited and hyped for the series, I can’t even imagine how it must feel for fans who grew up with the original series. Especially for Filipino fans who are seeing their childhood now in a live-action, locally produced series.
