Netflix’s first original Thai drama The Stranded (เคว้ง) does not necessarily break any new ground plot-wise. But it is refreshing in its treatment of the familiar material and in its featuring of talented Thai actors.
My jumping into Thai entertainment has been a fun ride so far with many satisfying discoveries. I was first introduced to the couple affectionately known as #PeteKao when YouTube recommended a three-part compilation of scenes from the series Kiss Me Again which featured the characters Pete and Kao.
A nostalgic and romantic slice of life story. That’s what Tune In For Love (Yoo Yeol’s Music Album & Joyful Album/유열의 음악앨범) is. And it’s a beautiful one at that.
Beautiful Justice ended up being one of, if not the best and most well-produced drama series GMA has offered in a long time.
Disney+ makes it highly anticipated debut today. And while I’m not a fan of all things Disney so much to become a long-time subscriber of the service, I definitely had to sign-up, at least initially, to be able to watch the animated short Float by Filipino-American animator Bobby Rubio.
GMA Network’s The Better Woman was a tightly written, fast-paced series with an excellent cast. But the main highlight and perhaps, huge revelation was the absolutel tour de force performance by Andrea Torres.
As the 2018 KBS2 drama series Are You Human? begins airing in the Philippines on GMA Network, I felt the urge to watch the entire series again after having followed along as it originally aired. And I must say, it was just as enjoyable, exciting and heartfelt the second time around.
LINE TV/GMM’s He’s Coming To Me is one of those experiences that I never expected to have, yet am so happy that I did.
GMA Network’s Onanay is both an engaging and frustrating drama series. Engaging because it was a refreshing take on the usual Filipino soap opera. But it was also frustrating because the solid foundation it had built up for story was undermined by the network’s jerking it around with last minute extensions.
Fireworks (打ち上げ花火、下から見るか? 横から見るか?/Fireworks, Should We See It from the Side or the Bottom?) is an interestingly frustrating film that could’ve been great. With an intriguing story hidden somewhere deep in the film and its perceived premise, Fireworks unfortunately fails to connect the dots that would have made it a creative success.
