Group A: Leg 1 → Leg 2 → Leg 3 →
Group B: Leg 1 → Leg 2 → Leg 3 →
Leg 25.03 (Group A) – “Ikaw yata may gusto mangagat eh.”
The third Leg begins for Group A as they secure tickets from Siem Reap to London, England! Though teams can book their own flights, they will all end up on the same flight and arrive early in the morning.
And upon arrival in London, they must search for Paddington Bear. Teams will need to figure out that Paddington Bear will have their next clue for them at Paddington Station. Teams must make their way via the London Underground.
Paddington Bear is one of the most iconic and beloved characters in the world, especially one that is proudly British. Teams must now help Paddington Bear get home to The Browns. While their address is a fictional home near Paddington Station, the recent live action movies filmed exteriors of the Brown Family home in Primrose Hill. Teams must take a life-sized Paddington Bear and walk with him to the namesake Hilltop Park to reunite with the family. The order teams arrive with Paddington will be used to determine order later in this Leg.
Teams must now find a 2025 Kia Soul in the area and drive themselves to Poole to catch a 12:15pm ferry to Jersey in the Channel Islands!
Teams will arrive in Jersey at 5:00pm and must drive themselves to Mont Orgueil Castle in Gorey.
But, HOURS OF OPERATION! Teams must wait until 8am at which time they will depart in the order they were able to reunite Paddington with his family.
In the morning, teams receive their next clue and must now drive to this Apple Orchard. Historically, apple orchards were abundant across the island and played a significant role in its culture and economy. While the number of orchards has declined over time, there are still places like this where traditional apple varieties are grown. Teams must harvest enough apples to fill a basket after which they will receive the next clue.
Teams must now drive to Le Collette Marina where they will find the Road Block: Who can knot do this Road Block?
For this Road Block, Teams must learn a series of nautical knots from a local fisherman. They will then be timed on their ability to tie these knots correctly and efficiently. When they have their knots approved, they will receive the next clue.
Teams must now drive to the north side of the island and Rozel bay. Teams will now use their knot skills to repair a lobster pot, a specially designed trap used to catch lobster. Teams must repair its cage-like structure and have it ready for deployment into the water. When approved, teams will hop into a small boat and head out to a marked area in the water where existing lobster pots have been set. Teams must pull up an old lobster pot full of lobsters and replace it with the new, repaired pot. Teams will then return to the dock and sort the lobsters between legal-sized and undersized ones. When they return the undersized lobster into the water, they will receive the next clue.
Teams must now head to this local home.
Jersey’s black butter is a type of fruit preserve made from the island’s own variety of apples along with other ingredients like cider, sugar, and spices. For this task, teams will take the apples they just harvested and prepare them for cooking by peeling, coring and chopping them. They will then measure out the correct quantities of the other ingredients and combine them into a pot. Once they have the pot over a fire, teams must stir it for a designated amount of time before moving on to black butter that is ready for jarring. When they have a full jar of black butter, teams will receive the next clue.
That clue reveals the Detour: Folk or Fortify.
Jerriais is the traditional language of Jersey, a Norman language descended from Old French. While its use has declined in the 20th century, efforts are being made to revitalize it. In Folk teams will learn and memorize a traditional folk tale in Jerriais and then properly perform it for an audience. When they get the thumbs up for their performance, teams will receive the next clue.
During World War II, Jersey’s strategic position in the English Channel made it a crucial site during the German occupation. Battery Moltke is one of those coastal defense sites. In Fortify, teams must help fortify this important location. Teams must search the bunkers for crates containing supplies and ammunition that they will need to bring up above ground and deliver to several locations around the fort. Once they’ve positioned all their supplies, they will receive the next clue.
And that clue directs teams to the Botanic Gardens at Samares Manor.
The first team to check-in here will win P200,000 courtesy of Shell V-Power Nitro+.
The last team to check-in here WILL be eliminated from the Race!
“Director’s” Commentary
A brand new to TAR country! Or, Crown Dependency I guess. Hehe. TARPHDME24 visited Isle of Man last year. And in thinking about a potential destination to split between the two groups, I immediately remembered Jersey and Guernsey! So, spoiler alert, Group B goes to Guernsey for their 3rd Leg hehe.
The Channel Islands are a unique and interesting destination. Especially when both Jersey and Guernsey have their own history and culture as well. So they are perfect for our split Race.
So for the flight, we give the teams the option to find the best flight, but with TARPHDME magic, they’ll all end up on the same flight and arrive in London at the same time. lol Makes things easier for everyone involved lol
First, for both Groups, we have teams run around London first. Teams will be on a magical commercial flight getting them into London early in the day. Hopefully giving teams enough time to accompany Paddington Bear before catching the car ferries to the Channel Islands.
It might be a tight window. But with TARPHDME, anything is possible! Hehe.
Having teams doing this task in the UK also adds another country to the season count lolol
I’ve wanted to do a Paddington related task on TARPHDME for a while now. And I think it’s good here as a little simple task before driving to the ferry. It’s also a way for teams to pick up their Kias they will use for this Leg and (spoiler alert) the next Leg too.
Since teams will be equalized in Jersey because of the Hours of Operation, having Paddington determine their release times in the morning is good too.
Google Scouting was a bit difficult for this Leg though. Lol
First up, I read about the island having apple orchards and then also about Black Butter. So this apple harvesting task helps tie in with the black butter task later in the Leg.
The Road Block is a nice new task. It’s very interesting and can hopefully trip up some teams.
The Road Block then ties in to the lobster traps. And let’s ignore that Group A did this task on the Tonle Sap. Lol
Next is the black butter which is very interesting as well and something great to feature here.
Finally is the Detour. One side is a language task. The other is a nice physical task. And both are nods to the island’s history. I think both will be challenging for the teams.
Overall, I think this is a solid Leg and a wonderful new location for TAR!
