Recap: No.1 Sentai Gozyuger, Episode 15 – Stop the June Bride

With it being June now and Kuon bringing her 11 more Rings, Tega June believes it’s time for them to begin the ceremony and make her wish come true. But first, she needs them to collect three treasures needed for it. She gives Fire Candle, Bouquet and Mr. and Mrs. KnifeCake compasses to find them.

Bouquet asks if Tega June is being a bit premature, especially since her fated passenger has not been found yet.

Fire Candle needs a refresher on what that means and Bouquet reminds him that just like Tega Sword has a compatible human pilot his physical body, so does the queen. Kuon continues that in order to become that pilot, the NoWans have been exercising their power as number ones. And that’s why they are so obsessed with achieving that number one spot.

Kuon asks the queen to allow him to be the pilot instead. Tega June says she knew he would say that.

After the four leave, Tega June reminds Kuonryudo how long ago, she was created by humans as an artificial intelligence that mimicked Tega Sword and was granted the power to create a world. The NoWan and children of Buridan are all creations like her, generative beings. They are imitations. However, imitations can always surpass the originals.

Tega June manifests a copy of Hoeru’s WolfDecalibur50.

She says she will regenerate the imperfect human world into perfection and asks Garyuon if he can help her in that goal. Kuryudo says his life is hers, ever since “that day”.

Back in Tokyo, Sumino visits a haunted house where Hoeru is working at right now. But Fire Candle pops up as well as his compass has led him here. Though Hoeru and Sumino are ready to take him on, he tells them he’s a bit busy right now.

The three of them head inside the haunted house together.

Sumino has fun scaring Hoeru and Fire Candle. But Fire Candle ends up finding the treasure, a joyful candlestick.

At the café, Ryugi shows Kinjiro his box of the best ultimate number one sweetest strawberries that are only available this time of year. He hopes this will keep them busy for the month.

But Mr. and Mrs. KnifeCake arrive, having been led here by the compass, in search of the very same strawberries. Ryugi and Kinjiro henshin.

Mr. and Mrs. KnifeCake play with Ryugi and Kinjiro’s emotions, getting them to feel sorry for them. Though Ryugi is willing to give them one strawberry, Mr. and Mrs. KnifeCake instead take the box of remaining 11 instead.

At a local nursery, Rikuo is entertaining the owner, one of his biggest fans. That’s when he runs into Bouquet who is collecting flowers. She tries to calm herself and almost falls on her face, but Rikuo catches her.

Rikuo apologizes for the skinship and asks what she’s doing here. She says she is here to make a bouquet for someone she cares for. He compliments the pretty bouquet and that makes Bouquet even more kilig.

Rikuo does his best fan service and puts a flower in her hair. She says this is a bit cruel of him. She just wants to be his fan. That’s all. And him doing this is too much. He apologizes.

Rikuo says he will talk to the owner and she can take her flowers and go home. As he walks away, she runs after and grabs his shirt. She tells him that the world will be changing soon. But he should not worry as this is for all their happiness.

Bouquet excuses herself and leaves. Rikuo wonders what she meant by that.

The four return to Queen Tega June with the three treasures. The queen sucks them up into her forehead and she is now full of power that reverberates across No One World.

Kuon leads Aryees into Tokyo. Hoeru and Sumino are the first ones to face him as Kuon begins the ceremony. The Aryees ring their bell heads and the public suddenly freeze and offer congratulations. The others arrive and Kuon says uninvited guests will die.

They all henshin. Rikuo and Kinjiro take on the Aryees while Hoeru, Sumino and Ryugi take on Kuon. Hoeru is shocked to see the copy of his sword.

Hoeru charges at Kuon and they battle. But Kuon is too strong. He pushes all five of them back as the people stop and line up. They applaud and a portal collects their energy. That allows for a red carpet staircase to emerge from another portal in the sky, allowing Queen Tega June to make her grand entrance.

The people begin to collapse before ultimately disappearing. Kuon gets inside the queen and sits in the cockpit. Hoeru calls Tega Sword and he hops in as well.

Tega June is happy to finally meet Tega Sword. Kuon declares the beginning of the ceremony.

The Aryees swing in the air as they ring their bells. Hoeru asks Tega Sword if he has been secretly dating Tega June. He says no. But he also warns that if he and Tega June are ever bound by marriage, the world will be over.

Tega June says that is wrong. The world will only just be beginning its new perfect form.

Hoeru declines the proposal and they battle. Kuon says he will force this marriage. They take their battle into the sky by hand. They return to their robo forms.

“Let’s get married, Hoeru!”

Tega June grabs Tega Sword and forces him into a dance in the church before Kuon is able to place a Ring on Tega Sword’s finger.

To keep him safe, Tega Sword ejects Hoeru from his body. The others shoot at Tega June, but she swats them away and forces all of them to dehenshin.

Tega June says she is number one at love. Kuon hops out and removes the Ring from Hoeru’s finger.

Kuon proclaims Tega Sword may now kiss the bride. Tega June grabs Tega Sword and kisses him. The Aryees ring their bells.

The world goes dark as Kuon declares the birth of the prince of destruction. A figure descends from the sky in a bubble. The world begins to explode. The Rings disappear from the other Gozyus’ fingers.

As the bubble bursts, the explosion reverberates throughout the world. And it has ended.

Episode Thoughts

Well, that escalated quickly! Lol

An excellent episode! Again, I really love how the season effortlessly balances the lighter and heavier aspects of the story. So all the hilarious fun in the first half of the episode perfectly contrasted with the considerably darker ending.

First off, I appreciate the welcome exposition in this episode. Lol Thanks to Fire Candle for needing the refresher on NoWans and their obsession with being number one. And then thanks to Tega June for giving Kuon a refresher on her origins even when he didn’t need it lol

It will be very interesting to learn more about who created Tega June and why. And really, Tega Sword’s origin story too.

They even teased “that day” that Kuon seemingly pledged his life to Tega June as well. Kuon’s madman personality definitely popped up in this episode. So plenty of exciting mystery to unfold, even as we enter a “new world”.

I think after 14 episodes, the season has done an unexpectedly great job at forging that connection between us and the Gozyugers. So these events of Episode 15 are very impactful. We already care about this world. So the idea of it getting wiped out feels big and important as opposed to a lesser-developed story where this would just feel like some random, hollow twist.

Of course, we don’t know what’s ahead yet. But the season has done enough work on the characters that we do care and look forward to what’s ahead.

Speaking of, all the fun moments in the beginning of the episode are a great example of that. I enjoy the bromance between Hoeru and Fire Candle. Sumino scaring them both was amusing.

Ryugi and Kinjiro are the best two to get tricked by Mr. and Mrs. KnifeCake. It fits with their characters.

And the scene with Rikuo and Bouquet! I loved it! Especially that tracking shot as Bouquet ran after Rikuo. So good.

And that balance I always mention, this scene had it perfectly. The funny stuff with Bouquet’s crush and the idol-fan dynamic and then the serious moment with Bouquet’s warning/assurance of what’s to come.

The Aryess ringing their bell heads and then swinging in the air like bells was more hilarious that it should’ve been. lolol

Overall, a big moment and turning point for the season it seems. Another new arrival next week. So let’s see how it turns out! I have high hopes!
