Recap: No.1 Sentai Gozyuger, Episode 13 – Housekeeper Run! Ryugi’s Manners

While downtown, Hoeru and Ryugi encounter Manners No.1 who wants to teach everyone good manners. The NoWan puts a Manner Chain around Hoeru which gets heavier every time he has bad manners.

Just then, Universe Warrior Red Racer appears and Ryugi immediately recognizes their voice. She dehenshins and introduces herself as the Bakugami family’s super maid, Yamori Shoko. And she is here to bring young master Ryugi home.

Ryugi runs off and arrives at the café, thinking he’s lost Shoko. But he is surprised to see she has already been waiting at the café and Kinjiro had already served her coffee.

When Hoeru comes in and tells Ryugi to use his super strength to remove the chain off of him, Shoko reveals that freezing people in place is the power of her Ring. But she also realizes Ryugi has not told his new friends about his family’s status.

Shoko explains that Ryugi comes from a long line of prestigious doctors and she has served the family for generations. It is her duty to protect the young master. But Ryugi refuses to return to that home and follow in his father’s footsteps as he is now loyal to Tega Sword.

Shoko says she will not allow that. But Ryugi just leaves, saying he will search for the NoWan. Shoko holds a bookmark tightly in her hand.

Meanwhile, the NoWan is weighing more and more people down. Ryugi finds him and challenges him to a battle of manners.

For Round 1, they discuss manners when entering someone’s home. Round 2 is table manners. Round 3 is manners when staying in a traditional Japanese room.

Hoeru fails all three rounds.

Meanwhile, legendary helper Cho Shinsei comes to greet Bouquet and asks about her Rikuo shrine. Kuon realizes Bouquet does not know Rikuo is a Gozyuger. He decides to egg her on and say that they look so good together that they’ll get married one day.

Bouquet denies that she likes him in that way.

Mr. and Mrs. KnifeCake come in to show them their first Ring. Kuon vows to take the Gozyugers’ Rings.

Back at the battle, Round 4 involves the manners of fighting. But Shoko stops them and says she will be protecting young master Ryugi. She henshins, but gets weighed down by a Manner Chain. She pleads with Ryugi not to get involved.

But Ryugi henshins and bows, which is proper at the start and end of any fight.

The Final Round begins. Ryugi has trouble trying to get the upper hand on the NoWan and finding how to out-manners him. The NoWan then trips on Hoeru who then bites his leg

Hoeru henshins and delivers a manners headbutt straight onto the NoWan, breaking the Manner Chain.

Cho Shinsei and Mr. and Mrs. KnifeCake arrive to help. But so do Kinjiro, Sumino and Rikuo.

Sumino and Rikuo take on Mr. and Mrs. KnifeCake while Kinjiro hops into TegaSword to take on Cho Shinsei.

Sumino is able to swipe Mr. and Mrs. KnifeCake’s Ring by reading their mind. Rikuo prepares a finisher, but Kuon shields Mr. and Mrs. KnifeCake and battles Rikuo and Sumino himself.

Kinjiro finishes off Cho Shinsei with a Cupid Arrow Eagle Arrow Shoot.

Ryugi tells Hoeru that he realized what true manners are thanks to him. The NoWan uses all his business cards. Ryugi says not to worry about things like that and just having the privilege of greeting him is an honor. The NoWan can’t believe Ryugi is still being nice to him after breaking etiquette.

But Ryugi says manners are not for looking down on other people. True manners are a person’s heart thinking of others. The NoWan refuses to be out-mannered. But Ryugi maintains that the NoWan has no right to talk about manners when he looks down on others.

Ryugi saves the old man inside and finishes the NoWan off for good with a Tyranno Hammer Crash.

Shoko arrives and says she cannot allow young master to continue acting out like this. Ryugi insists that he is not going home. Shoko says she worries so much about him. She takes out the bookmark and suddenly turns into Boso Red Racer, causing Ryugi to dehenshin.

Episode Thoughts

An interesting episode! Definitely the first part of this two parter for Ryugi’s backstory. And it certainly makes you look forward to learning all about his and Shoko’s relationship as well as more about Ryugi’s family life.

That of course comes next week. So this week was a more lighthearted episode. The manners stuff was fun and amusing, especially Hoeru being a manner-less wolf that he is. Lol

But the manners stuff fits with Ryugi’s background, I guess. And also how he has been the sort of “proper” member of the team. Especially with his deference to Tega Sword-sama.

With the bulk of Ryugi’s story being saved for next episode, I think the most interesting part of this one was Kuon realizing Bouquet did not know Rikuo was a Gozyuger. Seeing him keep that information to himself and potentially use it against her later would be very interesting and exciting!

So overall, just a simple and straightforward episode that just sets us up for next week’s likely more exciting and enlightening episode. But this one was still fun and enjoyable too.
