I forgot about Holy Week, so there’s only three GMA episodes of Slay this week. That certainly puts the TV version of the show even further back than the Viu versions. But let’s see.
GMA’s episode 13 was basically scene-for-scene of the rest of Viu’s episode 11. Actually the only GMA episode that did not add or remove any scenes, other than very simple few-seconds cuts, so far.
This episode was all about Juro and Kirby suspecting Sugar of setting Kirby’s bike on fire.
GMA Episode 14 has the most changes from Viu Episode 12.
One consistent difference through these episodes is the GMA edit removing the narration from the Slaydies and sometimes replacing them with random narration from Zach.
A scene that has new meaning in this version is when Sugar delivers the food to Tita Marga. In the Viu episode, it just came and went like any random scene. But with the GMA edit, we have the new context that implies Marga gave up a daughter out of wedlock and that is Sugar.
Then we have two brand new scenes inserted. First, Sugar’s Mama Lourdes runs into Mama Marga. Marga seems to recognize her as a magnanakaw, but Lourdes insists they have never met before. Hmm… interesting!
The other scene is Yana putting up photos on her wall. She tells her current yaya that it is something she learned from her late mother. But one of the photos on the wall features a “Yaya Lou” which turns out to be Sugar’s Mama Lourdes. Yana says she doesn’t really remember her though.
Aha! The plot thickens! There’s definitely something fishy going on there. But again, this storyline seems to be completely absent from the Viu edit! Strange!
The GMA edit does some clever moving around, again kind of improving pacing. They move the scene of Sugar asking her parents about Kuya Byron’s mysterious girlfriend into a quick flashback in the next episode when the Slaydies are talking in the restaurant. And then also moves the scene of Sugar talking to Emman at the police station to the start of the next episode.
For GMA Episode 15, the recap at the beginning of the episode specifically includes the scene of Yana and the small cutout photo of “Yaya Lou”. So looks to be a very important piece in the GMA edit at least.
After Liv and Amelie confront Zach’s “kabit”, the GMA edit inserts a new scene of Sugar at home when Mama Leona asks her for the rent and then offers her some leeway with paying as long as she reports everything about Liv to her. But actually, Mama Leona was just joking and trying to cheer Sugar up.
The scene goes on to establish the close bond between Liv and her mother with Leona specifically saying they would never keep anything from each other.
GMA’s episode ends, quite fittingly, with Liv visiting and then vandalizing Zach’s grave.
So for the main differences this week, some scenes moved around for better pacing. And then two big story-related additions. First, now establishing a connection between Sugar’s mother and Yana which is completely nonexistent in the Viu edit. And then giving us our first interaction between Lourdes and Marga which is interesting considering we (I? lol) suspect Sugar is Marga’s daughter she gave up or sold or whatever lol
The other new scene was just a small scene with Leona and Sugar. But everything else was pretty much the same between the two versions aside from the storyline that seems exclusive to GMA. Strange!
