Definitely not how I expected Yana’s focus week to play out on Slay. But it was an okay week nonetheless. It was a more family-focused week really. Lots of family drama and less on the murder mystery. And so in that way, this felt more like a typical teleserye week rather than the fun, campy slay-ified series that has been on and off for the previous six weeks.
Episode 21 starts out with Zach’s father confronting Yana at the gym. But what caught my attention was the directing decision to have close ups on Yana’s face. It made it seem like, I don’t know how to describe it, you know when a person is feigning innocence or pretending to be oblivious in a show or movie. And then they do close ups to kind of emphasize it and give you the impression that they’ve got a more cunning or mysterious side about them.
So in this scene, we see Yana’s innocent exterior, but know she has a darker inside. I dunno. Lol Who knows.
This first episode of the week also saw the start of Juro’s unraveling. Like, yeah he and Kirby have chased the wrong leads (or not even chased obvious leads at all). But Juro’s been especially off the mark on a lot of things. And the frustration seems to be setting in for him. Almost as if he’s the actual culprit! Hmm?
One of the reveals for the week was that Zach manipulated Yana’s father into gambling away all his money, including Yana’s college fund. Not so much a surprise to learn that Zach was an asshole and scammer though lol
Yana’s week gets even worse when Liv confronts her about not Maritesing about Amelie and Zach’s sex lives.
The episode wrapped up with romance detours with Leona and Hector as well as Yana and Gabo. Kinda meh.
And then another revelation about Yana’s debt from her cousin. Yana just can’t catch a break! lol
Episode 22 started off with Tita Marga kicking Yana out of the house as well as leaving Amelie in Cebu because Gabbi Garcia had to stay in the Big Brother house for whatever reason.
In this episode, we learn that Yana bought fireworks powder from her cousin before she ends up finding out her father is not in Dubai, but right in the Philippines all along.
Episode 23 continues on after Yana’s father is arrested and Juro brings Yana in for questioning. Juro’s impending meltdown was on full display here! And it actually very interesting.
Yana admits that she really did use power, but with the goal of just burning Zach’s office, not himself mismo.
What’s interesting about this is that Yana explains why she did the suspicious thing. But we didn’t really get an explanation why Amelie would change Zach’s body oil for tea tree oil though.
Maybe my favorite scene from the whole week was Liv and Sugar vs. Yana. It was a confrontation scene. This is the kind of stuff we want to see! Lol Especially with lines like Sugar asking what “F.O” meant and Yana replying: “Friendship over! Tanga!”
Hilarious!
Episode 24 had some good developments. Starting off with the Juro-Ninong connection finally out in the open. It was definitely right for Sugar to report that to the higher ups at the station. Clear conflict of interest of course. And it furthered Juro’s spiraling.
I would love to see more of him getting more unhinged, to be honest. Maybe we get to explore more about him and his relationship with Zach next.
Like I mentioned earlier, this week was focused more on family-driven story.
We got all the stuff with Mama Leona and Papa Hector rekindling their romance. That was definitely more typical teleserye stuff and honestly, the least interesting thing about the week.
The episode also showed the implication that Amelie might be Byron’s girlfriend since she shares the same bracelet as the girl in the photo. But I think it’s more likely Amelie got that bracelet from her mother and Tita Marga was Byron’s sugar mommy. Heck, Tita Marga might not have killed Zach, but what if she killed Byron instead? Also possible that Zach blackmailed Tita Marga about her relationship with Byron so Marga kills Zach. Or hires someone else to do it.
The week ended with us meeting the new investigator: Georgia Dimaunahan. (lol at these surnames lol) The eye patch is so extra. But I’m glad Kirby is still on the case. If Juro can’t star in the spin-off, then an Inspector Georgia and Kirby show would be equally fun. Lol
Overall, it was actually a pretty slow week. And the episodes this week actually got shorter and shorter until Episode 24 was only 20 minutes long. Again, I wonder if the GMA edit will make things more interesting. But we’ll see. The show itself has kind of slowed down overall. So hopefully things pick back up.
