To recap how the episodes correspond to each other, GMA is one episode behind the original Viu edit as I start this week of the TV episodes. So GMA’s Episode 9 is actually Viu’s Episode 8.
There are two major differences between the episodes. The first is an addition where the GMA edit sandwiches the scene of Juro and Kirby going over the evidence against Sugar with a scene of Papa Hector and Tita Marga arriving at Zach’s wake and then clashing with Liv and Mama Leona.
(Horrible audio editing again with the noise reduction or whatever it is in this scene. Really jarring.)
The main takeaway from this new scene is seeing more of the dynamic between Mama Leona and Tita Marga as they get snippy at each other and throwing shade at each other
The other change is a cut where GMA’s edit removes the scene of Liv, Amelie, and Yana arriving at the police station and moves it to the beginning of their version of Episode 10. Amelie is sure of Sugar’s guilt while Liv and Yana are not ready to condemn her just yet.
In GMA Episode 10, the first difference is adding a hazy frame around the flashback. I guess to make it obvious that it’s a flashback? And they go on to do this to other flashbacks in the rest of the episodes. I guess they just want to make it more obvious for the TV viewers versus the streaming viewers?
The GMA episode then extended the scene with Sugar and her parents. The new part had Sugar’s father ask her directly if she killed Zach. (Interesting considering he asked her to do just that. Also a GMA-exclusive plot point.) Sugar’s mother says of course Sugar didn’t and again expresses her regret for allowing her to come to Manila.
The GMA episode streamlined this section of the episode, showing Sugar’s scene with her parents uninterrupted, splitting the scene where the other ladies are drinking when Mama Marga pops up. I actually thought they had cut the scene out and I kinda wish they did because it was the one where Liv and Yana laughed at Marga making fun of Sugar’s name. Which I thought was not a good look on the ladies.
The GMA episode then cuts to the scene of Juro and Zach’s father, continuing it into GMA Episode 11 and also moving the scene of the ladies arriving at Liv’s home and having a group hug.
Though the GMA episode removes the flashback scene of Sugar messing with the lighter. I guess to lessen the suspicion on Sugar. Especially nothing really came of that flashback. Unless it comes up later for something.
GMA Episode 11 then inserts a new scene of Sugar and her parents. Her father wants to press charges against Zach’s father. But Sugar says not to do that and instead to have her continue digging into the truth about Byron’s death.
The episode then ends on a cliffhanger when Sugar’s crazy high school friend pops up in front of Amelie.
At this point, I’m thinking the GMA episodes are going to end up now two episodes behind. And that’s exactly what happened.
GMA Episode 12 switches scenes around for more streamlined pacing. But the rest of the episode happens as is with it ending at Jenny Lou toying with Sugar at the park. Which was just the cold opening for the Viu Episode 11 up to the opening credits.
So that means the rest of Viu Episode 11 will now be GMA Episode 13 next week.
So overall, no major substantive changes to the narrative for the GMA edit this week. Just perhaps some extra scenes for a bit more detail. But nothing like shocking nawawalang anak stories or surprise Amelie-Zach sex videos.
But it’s definitely getting to require a bit more effort on my part to keep comparing the episodes now that they’re moving further and further away from each other. Lol. We’ll see though if I can keep it up moving forward. Lol But the show itself is still fine. I have to watch Viu Episodes 21 to 24 next.
