Recap: No.1 Sentai Gozyuger, Episode 7 – Get Excited! Come Together, Gozyugers!

The pilot of Daizyujin delivers a finisher at Mr. and Mrs. ShiningSweet, bringing them back down to size. They retreat back to No One World and the pilot shows himself to the Gozyugers whom he knows of.

Back at the café as Hoeru and Kinjiro annoy each other, the pilot of the robo earlier appears. He introduces himself as Osai Meguru, a professor of Sentai archaeology and also TyrannoRanger. He says he restored Daizyujin using the power of his Ring.

He calls them failures as Super Sentai and offers to give them his two Rings if they can make some bomb omurice.

On the other side of town, Rikuo finds Sumino on a job investigating a fiancé who has been incessantly yapping about “tokimeki”. She’s found it’s a widespread thing. Rikuo compliments her skills and offers to help. But she doesn’t want it.

Just then, Tokimeki No.1 appears and the NoWan initially traps Sumino in a heart pounding world before Rikuo counters it with his own heart-pounding power.

The NoWan challenges Rikuo to a tokimeki battle. It transports them to a tokimeki room and the NoWan invites Mr. and Mrs. KnifeCake and Bouquet to help judge. Bouquet cannot believe her idol Rikuo is right in front of her and she pretends to be just a regular person while in his presence.

Back at the café, Hoeru and Kinjiro fight over the eggs. Professor Osai explains that he sees good things in the Gozyugers’ future. He really will hand over the Rings as he is merely interested in Sentai history. He wants to find out more about how Super Sentai helped Tega Sword win the mythical Universe Taisen.

The Gozyuger are particularly special because they are the only ones who can fuse with Tega Sword. And while the other Universe Warriors are Red, the Gozyuger are very colorful and work as a team.

After a stumbling start, Aoi suggests Hoeru, Kinjiro and Ryugi work together on the omurice instead. As a team. And when they do, Professor Osai and Aoi conclude their omurice is delicious! Just like omurice, the Gozyugers must come together.

Meanwhile, the first round of the tokimeki battle begins. They must act out how to save a girl being harassed. Sumino plays the damsel in distress. The NoWan goes first and then idol Rikuo. Sumino cringes at Rikuo’s kawaii moves.

Mr. and Mrs. KnifeCake each vote for the NoWan with Bouquet voting for Rikuo.

Rikuo wins the second round and the NoWan takes the third round. The fourth round is a kabedon challenge and Rikuo wins so it is now tied.

For the final round, they have to tell their romantic lead about their secret past.

The Nowan uses his feelings for the leading lady as his confession.

When it is Rikuo’s turn, Sumino suggests he be the real him for it. He explains that as a kid, he didn’t really have interest in anything. His world was a fogged up marble. But when he became an idol, seeing the smiling faces of everyone changed all that. And then someone started a false rumor that dragged him off the stage. That’s why he will not give up until he becomes the number one idol so he can be himself.

Bouquet faints after voting for Rikuo. Both Mr. and Mrs. also vote for him. That means Rikuo has won.

But the NoWan decides it’s time to get serious. The others arrive with Professor Osai who tells them all to be the omurice. Sumino agrees to work as a team and says she has seen there is actually some good in Rikuo.

The Gozyus henshin together and do their first full roll call. Professor Osai also henshins and they battle the NoWan and Aryees. Sumino, Ryugi and Kinjiri all uphenshin to the other dinosaur Sentai powers and team up with Professor Osai to finish off Aryees.

Hoeru hops into Tega Sword when a Dress Guard pops in. Professor Osai summons Daizyujin. And together, they finish off the robo.

Rikuo, meanwhile, finishes off the NoWan after freeing the human inside of it. He declares he fights to make the world and himself shine brighter.

Professor Osai says the Gozyuger are now the real deal. But suddenly, a mysterious figure shoots Professor Osai in the back.

Episode Thoughts

A very fun episode. And definitely a very unique take on the usual “team gets together” episode that we usually get every year.

Even though it’s been refreshing to have seen the team working as… well, a team already. It’s fun to make it sort of official in this episode. Even though it almost felt like it wasn’t even the focus of the episode in the first place.

We got a bit of lore and world building with Professor Osai and his Sentai history lesson establishing the Gozyugers as the chosen ones.

We got some insight into Rikuo’s backstory and perhaps seed planting for the explanation regarding his connection to Sumino’s sister. Kinda obvious why they paired them up in the episode too of course lol

The satire on idol culture and Rikuo’s idol persona was hilarious as someone who enjoys K-pop. Lol And the guys back at the café were fun too.

Overall, just a fun episode. Not much to say about it other than it was fun and enjoyable and moved things forward just a tiny bit. But that’s perfectly fine at Episode 7!
