For today’s special Saturday Sounds, I couldn’t wait until Monday to rave about BILIB’s newest single and also wanted to congratulate VICTON’s Lim Sejun embarking on a new start in his career!
“Hindi Ka Bibitawan” by BILIB
BILIB’s “Say Whatcha Wanna Say” was my #23 favorite song of 2024. Though I liked their strong debut, last year’s comeback was a very pleasant surprise for me as I immediately loved it. The group’s performance really asserted themselves as a group deserving of much more attention.
So I was very excited for this latest single. Especially when the teasers teased something a bit different from their powerfully charismatic first songs.
Indeed, “Hindi Ka Bibitawan” is yet another pleasant surprise from the group. I absolutely love it. Most of all because it really highlights the group’s strong, yet perhaps underrated vocals in the grander P-pop scene. The strong vocals and smooth harmonies throughout the song perfectly complement the song’s uplifting and hopeful message. A touch of nostalgia, a bit of dreamy adventure and an emotional, heartwarming message; the group delivers an easily enjoyable and instantly resonant performance of this pop-rock track.
I have no doubt BILIB will have another spot in my year-end list. And don’t be surprised if this track ends up securing itself a Top 10 appearance too. I know it will definitely be on repeat for me this year!
Definitely makes me excited to see what else BILIB has in store for us in 2025!
“Visual Film” by Lim Sejun
So this isn’t a new song release. But it is exciting news nonetheless. Kim Raehwan and Na Ungjae, better known professionally as from20 and Hello Gloom, teased the announcement of a new artist joining their company Way Better this week. And perhaps to everyone’s surprise, that new artist was VICTON’s Lim Sejun.
The last active member of VICTON has been doing his best keeping the group’s social media presence alive these last few years. But Sejun’s signing with Way Better signals a fresh start for him.
Way Better made the announcement with a special Visual Film featuring Sejun and directed by from20 himself.
The Visual Film is a short, yet cinematic and aesthetic video that appears to not only set the stage for Sejun’s future sound and style, but also offers up intriguing and meaningful references to his career so far.
“The Courage to Leave and the Will to Begin Again”
👀
It is a wonderful introduction or re-introduction, depending on the audience, to Sejun and what he will be offering up with Way Better.
Being a fan of from20 and Hello Gloom, their music and their creative minds, I am very excited to see them taking care of Sejun as one of the artists. And surely as a creative partner with him on his career as well. Congratulations to Sejun! Definitely an exciting year ahead for him and all of us!
