Thursday Tunes, January 30, 2025 – “WAR (We Are Ready)” by Universe League

I wanted to take today’s Thursday Tunes to congratulate the winners of Universe League, AHOF. I watched the two-and-a-half-hour finale because I had been rooting for JL Gaspar and Steven Kim even if I didn’t watch the rest of the series. Both JL and Steven are my biases from their groups PLUUS and LUMINOUS, respectively. Two groups I like and am a fan of.

So it was very exciting to see both of them not only make the final group, but also see that they’ve become very close on the series! Also for JL being the top ranked contestant!

During the finale, the three groups each performed two songs as their final performances. And so today, I decided to share my quick thoughts on each one.

I’ll go in order of the tracks on the album:

The first two are from the winning team, Rhythm. “@TAG” is an energetic hip-hop track that gave the team an opportunity to give a charismatic and confident performance. It’s a good song, but probably my least favorite of the six.

I like “La Fiesta” a bit more with its groovy pop-dance vibes. But I honestly prefer the other four tracks more as well.

I think my two favorite tracks are from Team Groove. “Anywhere, I’ll Be With You” is a wonderful ballad with a sweet message that really highlights the group’s vocals.

My #1 track of the six is definitely “Universe” though. It’s definitely the kind of song that’s more my speed. Plenty of positive vibes, a dreamy pre-chorus and an irresistible chorus beat. I’m usually annoyed by tracks with lyric-less choruses. But “Universe” is that good that it doesn’t bother me here. The song is a total package and I’m sure it’ll get multiple plays throughout the year from me.

Team Beat’s “Dreaming” is another warm track with the team delivering lots of charm in their performance.

“Sunset in the Sky” though is probably my #3 favorite track. The pop ballad has a great combination of hopeful nostalgia that gets you right in the feels every time you listen to it.

Overall though, the six tracks are all great. And I’m definitely looking forward to AHOF’s official debut!
