After driving the RT3 away, Taiya watches the others excitedly talking about getting back to the Garage to enjoy some of BunBun’s curry. He thinks it’s quite bakuage to have a big team of Boonbooms now. Shashiro says they’re a bit rowdy.
Taiya asks if Shashiro would rather work alone. Shashiro snaps back and says not to assume things.
As they head back, Shashiro recalls how he first met Taiya.
It was two years ago. After a successful mission, Ishiro’s client offers him a more permanent job instead of working freelance, especially being one of the top spies. Ishiro tells his client that working in an organization doesn’t really suit him so his client tells him he can always change his mind.
Ishiro’s clients are mostly secret organizations from around the world. And he believes there’s no honor or glory in this secretive world. He feels having teammates would only hold him back. The only person he can trust is himself.
But that all changed on that one night. While driving down the dark mountain road, a red supercar comes speeding up beside him. Ishiro thinks this guy is looking for a race so he speeds up and tries to cut him off at the turn. But the guy ends up passing him and gives Ishiro the thumbs up and a smile.
Taken aback, Ishiro almost crashes, but he is able to come to a safe stop as the guy drives off. Ishiro has no time to be intrigued as he gets a call from ISA Director Tokoyari who has a mission for him.
Tokoyari tells Ishiro about a UFO crash landing in Japan and how someone has already recovered it. Tokoyari would like Ishiro to investigate that person, giving him the authority to use deadly force if necessary.
The target, despite being very young, has made a fortune off of patents. And his intellect and influence has drawn the attention of multiple agencies around the world. Nothing is known of the man’s private life, especially the contents of the mysterious basement in his estate.
Ishiro accepts the job and begins surveilling the target (Taiya!), vowing to reveal all the guy’s secrets.
Chapter Thoughts
Yay! I finally get to enjoy the Taiya-Shashiro BL… I mean, backstory manga. Lololol
It’s great that we get more insight into the characters. Though like I’ve mentioned every week, I wish we saw this stuff actually play out on screen. I think it’s very interesting and even important to help add welcome depth and detail to the overall story.
Boonboomger has moved along at a great pace. And has been fun, exciting, emotional.
And this first chapter very much fits in well with the TV series itself. I think the manga so far really captures the characters well. And includes some of the actors’ nuances too which is awesome.
One reason I’d love to see a live action version of the story is we’d get to see more badass Shashiro spy action! And of course get to see the actors play out the story too.
Specifically, in this first chapter, I’d love to have seen that mountain road “chase” scene. That would’ve been amazing!
But I think the story of Taiya, who we know is a friendly, positive guy, being able to melt the cold cold heart of our lonely tsundere Shashiro is a great one. Simple, but meaningful. Especially for two characters we have already grown to love and enjoy.
Overall, I’m so happy and grateful to be able to read the manga. Can’t wait for the next chapters!
